The issue with the BBC was that they handled the farce wrongly. And didn't allow Clarkson ,may and Hammond one last chance to end the show their own way. And tried to use the same formula and tried to replace the trio immediately. Amazon has the support and blessings of whilham and the trio and allied them to end the show their way. Clarkson also advised them not to look at famous host but funny car people.
Exactly. While there is no replacing the trio, the BBC got flack not so much for trying to continue Top Gear/replace them, but for firing Clarkson (and thus the trio), and ending it hard that way. The Grand Tour ended completely naturally, and amicably. Still, it's unlikely they will find a group that will make people interested given the shoes to fill. Especially if they try and go woke first with it.
Exactly this. All 3 presenters have been asked about Grand Tour's future after they left, and they said they have no problem if Amazon continues with the show as long as they are extremely careful with choosing the new hosts. And I agree with this.
They can remake it, but I likely won't watch it. The Richard, James, and Jeremy have presence and dynamic that you can't replicate. Gonna miss watching them get into shenanigans.
I remember my Grandad who was a Vicar had a 2.0L Laser model back in the early 80s, when we visited them in Rhos-On-Sea on holidays he used to pay me and my younger brother to rust seal the entire underbody of it. That car never rusted, was so well looked after by him and Im sure the thick layer underneath helped. I've still yet to watch the final episode, it's heart wrenching not seeing the trio together on my screen anymore after all these years.
"Let's call them Boomers". Brilliant! Love the personalities and entertainment value of Drive Tribe! The love of cars is always there, it is the personalities that present them that keeps us wanting to watch whatever you upload! Thank you for being you and doing this for us!❤
It is impossible to replace the trio. They were unbelievable balanced and the chemistry was beyond imagination.. I didn't care if they made a top gear / grand tour special or just doing groceries in Tesco or Asda, I was still enjoying all they replicas , all the discussions, all the adventures and the fun the were producing.
I really hope the mercedes and Lancia from the first special are saved as well. Would be great to have that process documented. Would be quite a challenge!
@@CaydeSmax there's an abundant network of funds to see that restoration done. All the RUclips content, Amazon, crowdwork funding could pay for it easily. Plus, think about what someone would pay to have that piece to television in their collection.
this was my favourite episode of the grand tour because it just felt natural, it felt like there was no script, it just felt like Top Gear again and im saying this considering they been to exactly where i live twice to film two episodes
My first car here in the US was a 1974 Mercury Capri. It had the 2800 V6 which had a glorious sound to it coming out the back. I got that car in absolutely mint condition in 1980 with only 45,000 miles on it. By the time I was done with it when the rear axles decided to defect from the rear end to the greener pasture that was literally along side the road I was driving on, it had over 200,000 miles on it. I literally drove the wheels right off that car. With all the factory options in that car (it was loaded with every available option), that thing in the same condition I got it but today would be worth a small fortune. Absolutely loved that car. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
No one on this God's green earth can replace those legends dairy trio of heroes. Hammond, May, and Clarkson are the best petrolheads ever on this planet. No one can beat them only follow their inspiration and comradery ans also hummor.
It's nice that they have been saving some of the stuff from the shows. I know in the past they have said they had no attachment to it, but the rest of us do. Would love to see content with them in the future, or see them at shows or events.
I'd love for Amazon to offer up the new Grand Tour to Thomas and James of Throttle House; they are SO natural at working together and being genuinely entertaining; no third person required.
Came here to say it's fairly clear Izzy is being groomed for a presenter job. She's learning basic car maintenance as well which is always a useful skill, Mike is an obvious choice and I think Ben would be a brilliant older head and natural foil for Izzy's and Mike's youthful exuberance!
That description of the average 70s Capri owner really struck home! I had a 1972 3.0 GTXLR when I was 21, and I did all that! Racing another Capri towards a railway bridge that had room for about one and a half Capris to go through at once (they chickened out first!). Running a red light in excess of 100 mph with (unknown to me) an unmarked Police Escort following me. Demonstrating it's near unmatched ability to do donuts in gravel car parks. Hitting 125 on the M3 and seeing an SDI Rover a few inches off my rear bumper (thankfully that wasn't a Police car...). Spinning the rear wheels down a double-parked suburban street. Happy days...... And mine was the same colour as Richard's, with the same wheels!
I'd say A new Grand Tour wouldn't be in too much heat. Our favourite three 'wise' men are very open to new chaps taking up the mantle. They're very enthusiastic, even. They're ready to pass the torch.
The trio can never be replaced, but I would watch a carshow that has Chris Harris, Matt Armstrong, Ben Collins, Tavarish or Becky Evans in it. They're enthousiastic enough to make it fun and know their stuff.
GT and TG have been my favorite shows as long as I can remember! I agree it's the chemistry between them that make it special but I still welcome a remake of GT because it's way better than any shows on TV. Hopefully they find real car people with chemistry and just do epic adventures!
Amazon , dont do it , it didnt work with Top Gear and it wont work with the Grand Tour , it was the chemistry between the three of them that made the programme, thank them from the bottom of our hearts and let it rest.
I assume you know the UK authority on Essex engines is Ric Wood? He built one that I once drove in a mk1 Granada that had over 300bhp NA. It'll be very surprising/disappointing if he doesn't build one for this Capri.
I'm younger than you, and the Capri is a hero car to me. Not boomers by any means. Literally the car I promised myself, as a 2.8i were my first 2 cars and a 3.0S Capri my 4th, all within the same year of starting to drive (before my test). 20 years ago, a running V6 Capri with 12 month MOT could be bought for under a grand. Hammond's almost Capri would have been even cheaper. With Top Gear's first car being a Capri presented by Angela Rippon, it's fitting the last car by the best known presenters is also a Capri.
In my opinion, there is no top gear and there will be no grand tour without the boys. Those were the greatest car shows ever. It's the end of an era.😢 Greetings from Germany
Having new presenters for upcoming seasons of "The Grand Tour" is like trying to replace Big Ben, the Eiffel Tower, or the Brooklyn Bridge: yes...any of them CAN be replaced, and the replacement can have the same functionality, but it wouldn't be the same. There is a certain chemistry between the Orangutan, Captain Slow and the Hamster, and I don't believe it's either forced or formulaic; this was (and is) who they are.
Nobody can replace them. They are not just national treasures, but they are global treasures. No other car tv shows even come close. As for hosts, I probably wouldn't mind seeing Keanu Reeves, Adam Carolla, and Patrick Dempsey
Love how they’re not treating it as a grand tour artefact. As if it were a relic of a now gone past. The spirt of the grand tour lives on and it animates the builds that proceed from it.
Nobody, you can't recreate what the chemistry that Richard, James and Jeremy had. Amazon should know that after seeing how TopGear flopped without them
If I was picking, it would be the Drivetribe team. Mike, Izzy, and Ben. They've all worked with the OG trio, so it would be like the handing over of the torch
Gen x here and a 3.0l GXL was my first decent car , learned how to drive a rwd in it . I’ve been looking at them for about a year now to perhaps get another
I agree with what Clarckson said at his screening / Q&A. Don’t have named ‘celebrities’ do it. Have genuine people who genuinely love cars. That’s what worked when TopGear rebooted in 2002. And why it continued to work for 22 years. Post CHM top gear was about finding the personalities to host it, rather than it be a car show
The last episode was awesome been following these guys from the beginning But I do think the ultimate best bow out for these guys would've been a special set in the Falklands to prep three cars and then a special to take them three cars to the south pole Antarctica would be the most awesome bow out of all time especially if they stayed together an actually helped each other as a team as a trio that's gotta make some world records Anyways wishfully thinking but would be a global success
If Amazon manages to convince Richard, as he is the youngest of the three, and potentially Wilman to help out in the setup of the reboot... maybe they don't crash and burn immediately. Maybe. I know that I did not watch a single episode of the Top Gear after BBC did a reboot post Clarkson exit. I am also not certain that I will be wathing this Grand Tour reboot if it ever happens.
Richard and James left BBC with Jeremy. I suppose, Richard has finished his work with The Grand Tour. I will be very happy to see their shows, whatever they will be about.
There is no doubt the chemistry between the "Big 3" was lightening in a bottle. If something similar is to happen again, it must be discovered not forced, and within a new unique format. Personally, I think the team on RUclips channel "AutoAlex" are well on the way as contenders. On camera at least there seems to be a natural friendship which can lead to fun moments of "hold my beer" silliness and still enough serious-ish car projects and challenges for the average petrol head. There's also a couple of recurring "side characters", YT crossovers, and assorted misfits to keep it from becoming a "same old, same old" type show
modern brakes, slightly better suspension, headers and proper exhaust, slightly wider wheels and tires, and leave the entire rest of the car alone! that thing is a peach!
There will never be another Clarkson, May or Hammond! They made Top Gear and the Grand Tour work because they were unique and worked so well together. I will truly miss them and their adventures
Who would watch the new Grand Tour? I´m not willing. My heroes have finished... I just have a tear in my eye... But nothing is forever. THANK YOU "CHAPS" ❤
So badly want a Capri. I am an early Gen Xer but fell in love with the Capri thanks to an uncle who had a Mk I that he barely drove and babied like you wouldnt believe. I think in 10 years of ownership it had 30k on it. It also helped that the Professionals were one of the most popular shows when I turned from child to teenager.
Nice to see the Capri, can't wait to see her on track. As for the Next Grand Tour debate, I vote a profound 'NO' on that one. There's no way anyone can do that show again, as they'll always be compared to Hammond, May and Clarkson. That's a lost battle from the get go I think...
Taylor from AutoAlex, Al from 6d Diesels, and Will from Top Dead Centre would be my pick for GT2. Whomever it is, I'd like to see cameos from the original crue - they can take the role of task settings, adjudicators, or "wise (uH) men"
The primary difference between the GT & GXL, apart from the slide only sunroof, is that the GXL is a little softer and more comfortable in the ride department. It was by far the most sensible MK1 Capri to take on a Grand Tour. Rather nice too.
PLEEEEEAZE find a way to help the Yanks view The Smallest Cog! None of the streaming services offer it, which puzzles me. We NEED The Smallest Cog in our lives to fill that TG/ GT void.
I grew up watching the American Top Gear first before i discovered the original. I would love to see a Grand Tour with Adam, Tanner, and Rutledge. Miss those three
For the love of all that's holy, i hope they got Jeremy's car as well. Having all three of those cars together would be incredible. In 50 years, those specific cars will be as valuable as any car owned by Steve McQueen or Elvis, or anything like that.
Mike and Izzy have already been shown to have great chemistry together as a duo. So just a question of whether it’s Ben Collins or Marcus as the 3rd one. There’s potential there as they’ve all got chemistry on screen between them. Anybody else doesn’t work in my opinion this just feels like the perfect natural progression which wouldn’t be as jarring as what BBC butchered Top Gear with!
@@AKStovall It wouldn’t but they could change it up to suit their style. You could have race specials instead or road trips as opposed to just traveling across a country. By race specials, they each have a car of their choice and they have to get from x destination to x destination. And there’s still plenty parts of countries we haven’t seen. I’m sad the original trio never got to go on the Atlantic Ocean Road in Norway but that’s something they could do.
Remaking something so popular and so well known is always difficult, if they were to do it, the best way would be to find their own formula that works and create something new.
I think that whoever they choose for the next iteration of the Grand Tour should involve a passing over of the baton, so to speak. And possibly the new presenters taking on one of the older cars from each of the original trio, expressing both gratitude, the potential, and that they have big shoes to fill.
Still not a GT though. One for the Road was amazing. Can't believe it is over. I've watched this show from when episode 1 aired, which is more than half as long as I've been alive for. The flashbacks they showed at the end of the episode made me feel really, really old.

Clarkson PUNCHED a producer
How dense are you people?
@@shuddafukkup Even the guy in question said it's not a big deal, so you're obviously winning the density championship over here.
Auto Alex Kersten from his channel and Taylor Hetherington also from Auto Alex channel. I have been loving them and think they have a great chemistry
Thank you for being you and doing this for us!❤
It's the cars for me.
boomers??? thats bollox!
You can't recreate this show with different presenters. The show IS those three! the magic was them!
Not sure it can or should be rebooted. But Chris Harris, Jason Camissa and Henry Catchpole. All three are amazing car journalists.
I really hope the mercedes and Lancia from the first special are saved as well. Would be great to have that process documented. Would be quite a challenge!
Possible showpieces to exhibit as they sit? @@CaydeSmax
jeremy has saved the lancia and quite rightfully to .
@@knoxyish Where did you hear that? The original one or the one featured in the most recent episode?
@@CaydeSmax there's an abundant network of funds to see that restoration done. All the RUclips content, Amazon, crowdwork funding could pay for it easily. Plus, think about what someone would pay to have that piece to television in their collection.
@@geoffreycarter3981 The one from the finale I believe.
no one will ever replace those 3 ol' blokes... they're already LEGENDS
this was my favourite episode of the grand tour because it just felt natural, it felt like there was no script, it just felt like Top Gear again and im saying this considering they been to exactly where i live twice to film two episodes
Ford Capri is an all time classic. The Staaaagggg!! So glad you all also saved that one.
Never watched TG after the trio left and wouldn’t bother with a new GT. it’s about 3 friends who cannot be replicated
Says a man who never watched to find out. TG was close to finding that chemistry before the crash.
@@NOXStellans Yeah but it meant you'd have to suffer through watching Paddy. There's more charisma in a loaf of bread.
Spill the beans Mike! We know it’s you, Izzy and either Maxwell or Ben Collins! 😜
What about Abby? 🤔
@@christophb2736 I haven’t seen enough of her to know how well she presents. Mike, Izzy, Ben or Marcus would be my go to if they were interested.
Ben, Matt, Tavarish
Came here to say it's fairly clear Izzy is being groomed for a presenter job. She's learning basic car maintenance as well which is always a useful skill, Mike is an obvious choice and I think Ben would be a brilliant older head and natural foil for Izzy's and Mike's youthful exuberance!
I was hoping he would keep it.
I was too as its a special car for everyone who watched the grand tour
Same as my First 73 Capri , £650 Back in 1978,
Loved every second driving that
The trio can never be replaced, but I would watch a carshow that has Chris Harris, Matt Armstrong, Ben Collins, Tavarish or Becky Evans in it.
James's STAG and Hammond's car must be restored, and if they both visit Clarkson's farm, that could be a amazing video!!!!!
Love how they’re not treating it as a grand tour artefact. As if it were a relic of a now gone past. The spirt of the grand tour lives on and it animates the builds that proceed from it.
Nobody, you can't recreate what the chemistry that Richard, James and Jeremy had. Amazon should know that after seeing how TopGear flopped without them
0:49 Jezza in the ninetees!
Look up his review of the Ferrari 348 on old Top Gear, he looks like a proper 70s rocker
If I was picking, it would be the Drivetribe team. Mike, Izzy, and Ben. They've all worked with the OG trio, so it would be like the handing over of the torch
It would be cool to see Ben Collins in the next grand tour.
The Opel really was magic. How that thing crossed the impossible desert and those loose sand tracks was glorious beyond belief.
Jason Cammisa in the next Grand Tour sounds like a nice idea
Tell Hammond to put a 410 stroker block in that Capri
You can’t replace them. They will always be number one. I do think a show with Izzy, Mike and Caleb would be hilarious though
Post CHM top gear was about finding the personalities to host it, rather than it be a car show
The last episode was awesome been following these guys from the beginning
But I do think the ultimate best bow out for these guys would've been a special set in the Falklands to prep three cars and then a special to take them three cars to the south pole Antarctica would be the most awesome bow out of all time especially if they stayed together an actually helped each other as a team as a trio that's gotta make some world records
Anyways wishfully thinking but would be a global success
The Auto Alex guys should get the chance in my opinion,Alex Taylor and Rorie would be hilarious
I'd love to see a museum of all the iconic cars from the grand tour and top gear all cars either left alone or refurbished
Nobody can “take the place” of such iconic characters as them…I dare say that the project is doomed to failure.
Who would watch the new Grand Tour? I´m not willing. My heroes have finished... I just have a tear in my eye... But nothing is forever. THANK YOU "CHAPS" ❤
I think you'd have to look at autoalex Taylor and rory . Massive following likeable and pretty much doing the old top gear stuff now
So badly want a Capri.
BLUE COLLAR HERO PLEASE RESTORE❤❤🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
PLEEEEEAZE find a way to help the Yanks view The Smallest Cog! None of the streaming services offer it, which puzzles me. We NEED The Smallest Cog in our lives to fill that TG/ GT void.
@CaydeSmax maybe, up to season 2 though. Discovery+ was supposed to carry it in the US, but I'm sure carrier agreements got in the way. 🙁
You need to search on internet. I have seen all episodes... Just try and you will find it :)
oh PLEASE!!! PLEASE restore that capri! it has been my dream car since i first saw it on the movie "bad taste"
You’ll never replace the three boys but personally I think you Mike, Izzy and Ben Collins would be awesome together
The remake of the grand tour is doomed to fail. The original trio cannot be replicated
@@Levine93 I could see Izzy and Mike as 2 of the hosts, but I'm not sure it would have the same feel. I highly doubt that is how it would be though.
@@CaydeSmax Agreed! And I’ve just realised I’ve been writing his name wrong the entire time in these comments…
Remaking something so popular and so well known is always difficult, if they were to do it, the best way would be to find their own formula that works and create something new.
Its a high time we get a museum of all these memorabilia. The posterity must get inspiration
as long as they keep the format the grand tour became i am all for it and they better be funny like hammond may and clarkson
Amazon if your listening there is only one trio, that’s James, Jeramy and Richard. Don’t spoil perfection
I think that whoever they choose for the next iteration of the Grand Tour should involve a passing over of the baton, so to speak. And possibly the new presenters taking on one of the older cars from each of the original trio, expressing both gratitude, the potential, and that they have big shoes to fill.
Chris Harris, Jensen button and Daniel Ricardo would make me watch it lol
@@CaydeSmax I meant on the grand tour .... I wouldn't watch TG full stop .... It's on BBC - so that's a no for me lol 😆😆
Still not a GT though.
One for the Road was amazing. Can't believe it is over. I've watched this show from when episode 1 aired, which is more than half as long as I've been alive for. The flashbacks they showed at the end of the episode made me feel really, really old.
Racing driver Randy Pobst would make an excellent Grand Tour presenter. He is very, very likable
Can't wait to see the Capri street racer build, ❤❤
if they are doing a remake of the Grand Tour then Izzy Hammond should be the first name on the list, she would be perfect for it
Izzy, Mike, and Maxwell! LOL!
13:46 Alex, Taylor & Rory

Glad Richard kept the Ford. now ir and Oliver can live together in legendary status.
