Cracking video, Mr Monky! Brings back memories of my woodland green phase 2 Saxo VTS. The only car I have ever bought new and they came with one year free insurance at the time. Bonus! When I'm driving along a country road I always wish I was back in the Rallye!
Chris Harris also nailed the question of modern powerful cars vs. something like this: it can be more fun. A GT3 is blisteringly fast. Almost impossible to get to it's limits on public roads. This one can be driven most of the time in fun mode.
Most fun I ever had in a car was in my Mk1 GTI. Above my CRX, Corvette and current 300hp WRX. Yes it’s all about weight and chuckability, and communication with the machine, especially on UK roads. I recently went back over the pond and the driving experience in London was horrendous. All the new speed restrictions and cameras and larger vehicles using less lanes.. yep those days are definitely over.

Got another red series 1 then had a black left hand drive series 2 that had a 16v in. Although it was faster it just didn't give me the enjoyment that the series 1 did. Amazing little car!
The word used for producing cars so they can be rally’d is ‘homologation’ I think they had to produce a minimum of 500 factory cars in order to run them in a rally
owned a clio williams 3, a clio 1.8 16v, 2 ph1 clio 172 and currently own my second clio 172 cup. came very close to buying a 106 rallye years ago but lost out on it. cool little cars.
1:36 i don't know what you're talking about.. but this is why i have an og ffs john😎 sticker beside my drivers side door handle 🤣💪👍
All the HP! Get in haha much love brother! 💪👍
My cousin had a 1.3 version of this in white and it was a beast, much prefer it in red though, lovely little whip mate!!!
Phase 1 was always a 1.3
@@JD-eo7dr im pretty sure there was a 1.3 with 100bhp and a 2nd generation 106 rallye with a 1.6 at 102 bhp 😉
Had 2 106's and a saxo vtr. My 106 GTI was around 170 odd brake and revved forever it was a proper problem child but I loved it.
Yeah hopefully we'll get a Saxo on the channel soon! Thanks for watching Andy!
@@monkylondon there getting to be a bit of a rarity now so good luck I look forward to seeing it.
One of my favorite and dream cars! I own a Saxo VTS 1.4, but this is LEGENDARY! Especially in this condition and IN RIGHT WHEEL, thats a gem! 106s and Saxos are small amazing bombs
Had a black m reg phase 1 loved it nothing would catch you on a twisting road just loved being thrashed.
"Photo !!! Photo !!!"
What's the french rap song called?
My first car was a white S1, I’m so glad that I did’t sell it after all these years and I’m planning on restoring it and make it an OEM+ little autocross racer.
love an s1 rallye, s2 rallye is also really cool!
Yeah I like an S2 too, S1 just a bit more raw but both savage wouldn't say no!
i had the 106 gti went like the clappers great fun
Sebastien Loeb started his rallying career in one.
I had one of these as my first car in red aswell I loved it
Had one of the last Saxo VTR's brought into the UK absolute blast to hammer about in saw a downhill 130mph which was utterly terrifying in a car with all the strength and stability of a shopping trolley 😛
Facts right there, as long as don't crash proper sick 😂
Had a Mk1 and a Mk2. The Mk1 was the nuts!
Yeah both epic but the og 1.3 wins for me too. Thanks for watching
Always wanted one these as a kid used to be a white one and a blue one near me always loved the little stripes
Nice video !
Very good song French !
Had loads of 106s and Saxos. All great fun whether it was the vts, vtr, xsi. Want another!
Does anyone know the name of the first song?
Love the old school car's brother 👍🏻☘️☘️☘️
Good man! Sounds great!
Love the pug 🥰 it reminds me of my first car… a little red Mk2f VW polo that came with no radio or cigarette lighter…. Because race car 🏎 💨 there’s not much that’s more fun that ragging a little hatch about beyond it’s limits.
Yeah that was certainly all you needed!
I had a aztec si 106, was 1.4 8 valve
Was such a good handling little car
Big Monk! You legend! And it’s clean! 🤩
Weirdly…
I’m sat sewing up a rallye red carpet while watching this, someone cut it to put a cage in the original car in the distant past like an absolute melt.
I have 2 Rallye carpets one mint one and this one I’m doctoring. One in each Saxo.
Last clean one I saw sold on eBay for over £200, for a carpet! And don’t even get me started on the gearbox…
Yeah isn't it mad how rare stuff is now! Good luck with the carpet big restecpa for keeping old stuff alive! Thanks for watching
@@monkylondon most aren’t aware that the Rallye carpets were considerably thinner and lighter than the standard ones. Peugeot were really on it…
Thank you! Wicked car, excellent soundtrack and montage! Any 405 Mi16s left in the UK? Get in touch with Monky😁
Designwise, I like the steelies and the low stance. And Peugeot performance offcourse. Man I knew had a white one.
Why is the engine overheating? 😂😂😂
I had a 106 GTi and I loved it. Wicked little Cars.👍🇬🇧🇮🇱🇬🇧✌️
Big GTI fan here too nice one Adam!
Makes me miss my saxos mainly my vts such fun little cars and used to surprise a lot of people
Had one exactly the same was a awesome little car had 125mph out of it on and off the limiter in 5th gear lol
And felt like you were doing 200 haha much love bud!
Greek advertisment for 106 noice man
Literally my dream car mate 😂😂😂 I have a 1.1 independence sadly not a rallye 😂 still rag it though
Would still happily daily a 1.1 big restecpa for old skool cool 👊
@@monkylondon tbf it’s my first car and I absolutely love it 😂😂😂 takes ages to overtake… had to drop it down to second the other day to overtake a 125💀😂😂😂😂
@@monkylondon I had a 1.1 phase 1 as my first car. My brother worked at a rolling road company where it made 85hp until I ended up thinking I was the Duke boys and jumped a curb and wrote it off🤦
Had an m reg in exactly the same colour, my biggest car sale regret😩😩. Blew the head gasket within two days because when I bought it from reading it had been stood for 18 months and I literally ragged the shit out of it from the moment it was mine😞. God I’d take that thing to bed with me now😍😍 absolute screamer ( had a k and n induction) my soul mate and I will one day have another 👏👏👍👊
My first car was a s2 106 quiksilver with a 16v gti engine swap it was soo fun! Its soo funny when cars dont expect you to be sat behind! That car got me in so much trouble mind 😂😂
I have a 106 rallye s1 like the one in the vid but as a rally car it’s rapid I love it
Yeah I bet Owain! What colour is she?
@@monkylondon Red. it looks the best in red
We need more videos of your yamaha raptor! I seen on another video you commented on that you might have a quad and thats why I'm here
Reminds me of my old mk2 swift gti, surprising fun car and I only bought it to save money from my r33 Gtr as a daily. Miss both those cars
a 90s hot hatch without hot rocks on the seats?! someone has definitely swapped the seats in this beaut 😂lets hope John hasn't bought back some oldschool hash from his trips in Europe 😂
My first car...Black S1 rallye 1.6 16v on Jenvy Throttle bodies..Cams...Stand alone ecu etc. Was a fucking animal. Would leave most big bhp cars on B Roads 👌👌 Ps noticed you water temp was up lad when you done the interior shots 👊
Peugeot 106 and 205 Rallye’s are cool and all. But if u could I’d either get a 309 or 604 GTi.
Would love to see you get your hands on fiat uno turbo, haven't see one for years!
Yeah would love to Danny I'll keep my eyes peeled
loved my Rallye106.... sold it, sadly missed. no idea where it is now
I had an s2 1.1 as my first car it was absolutely gutless but so much fun
I rekon the slower they are the more fun they are! Much love Jeeves
@@monkylondon yeah for sure it strugled up any form of incline trying to take it up to the scottish border along the a68 was interesting to say the least full throttle always 😂
I have a soft spot for these, I had a 1.3 and 1.6.
You got one in great condition.
Which of the two do you prefer? Might buy a 1.6 Rallye
@@superfolke4286 I prefer the 1.3 because of the pininfarina design og engine revs higher.
They almost have the same power but the 1.6 has more torque and servo-steering.
You should get one and they are going up in value.
saw you last week in reigate in this, second time ive seen the car. looked great
Monkey is the temp in the red with the warning light on ? at 7:03
Great little hot hatch
Biggest regret is selling my s1 106 rallye. Loved it.
Yes mate, scouse in the house legend 👍
Me pal had the 106 GTI 16v it was rapid for what it was loved it 👌🏻👌🏻
Can we all agree that Taxi was a sick film? And I'm not talking about the Queen litifah film
First watched that in a last day of term French lesson, circa ‘99 👍
My top 3 films all time, fist bumps to you lovelies 👊
I use to have one I wish I kept it K reg SI same as in the video. It spat flames when you changed gear
Now thats what im talking about! Caaahmon!
It's better to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow 👌🏼
Love those little cars, hold on to that one those are already becoming a “classic”
For sure ! They’re already classics !
Proper gems these! 👌🏻
You cannot beat driving a slow car fast.
Absolutely bud!
I know the 106R from Forza Horizon 4. Somehow managed to get 300hp out of one with no turbo conversion lmao
holy shit the taxi soundtrack
Nice video guys
You can't put a 16v head on the 8v block easily, the pistons aren't the same to start, so much easier to just put the whole 16v lump in & swap the bits over, not easy if you can't wire though.
Tell me about it took me ages to get mine wired and running but been faultless since.
I've just bought a jade green 106 with a 1.5 diesel engine absolute tank!
The diesels are bomb proof engines
I had one as my first car as well, got caught doing handbrake turns in the forest by the police.
I remember watching Matt Cussans's 106 reach orbit. Oops.
MONKY WHAT DO YOU CALL A FRENCH JOHN???
JEAN 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
WHEN YOU SEND IT YOU CAN CALL IT SOME JEAN ACTION
Jean confirmed 🇨🇵🥖
😂😂😂 legend
done the conversion with my quiksliver & rear disk beam, would liked to do a short reveiw on mine & a fly by... would make 4 gd content 💙pugs! 100%retro☆👍
Stripped out from the factory to race
Ever considered covering alfa romeos? I'd love to see a GT QV on the channel
If a sick one comes up deffo bro!
small cars are fun, I still own Swift GTi and it's my favorite car for a country road
i had a swift gti 1.3 16v was very nippy!!
Swift GTI is awesome very rare now too!
Wee beast my mate ex bird had a blue loved it super rair only ever seen a few
Peugeot 106 superleggera. Cool monkymobile. All cars should start at this trim level and option up from there is how I feel about cars. K-powered would be a great option too. Then you could have some tunes and not lose some of that precious power to weight 🤣
Good old box hill 😂
