    Any Taxi 1 fans in the house, the French version? Some say it's John's second favourite film! If you haven't seen it do a watch, put a little insert in for good measure #ifyouknowyouknow. We got any French hot hatch owners watching? If so let us know below what car you own or have owned in the past, would love to hear your stories! Hope you enjoy this little 106, more reviews inbound! Peace ML

    Ah the good old days, i'm 35 and i grew up with these cars, as a kid my uncle shortly had a 205 rally which was a pretty special sight to see, all white with the rally livery in the grill, imagine a 2.0 16v in these cars, i know the mi16 engine from the 405 was a popular swap for the smaller hatches back in the day.Great times, those small hatches got crashed alot though.watching this it makes me miss my suzuki swift 1.3 twincam gti mk3, revved to 8k with a chip in it, 5th gear was a downer though. 😁

      My 205 has the 16v from a 306 GTi. It goes really well tbh but what you gain in power and sound , the car loses some of it magic actually as the 2.0 lump is pretty heavy, so you lose that characteristic of a perfectly balanced hot hatch.

    • @MrAudi220
      @MrAudi220 3 года назад

      @@PugGTi-vo2lg thats about 167 bhp in a 205, that must feel pretty good, i would agree that a heavier more powerfull engine isn't always the best choice, my first car was a 306 facelift model but it was only a 1.9D with 68hp.back then hatches where hatches, these days they have become small SUV's, just look at the golf 8 only 5 doors and bigger than ever.

Crashed my red one on a roundabout and wrote it off, the black one was about 120bhp and i managed to never crash it. Wonderful car and I really hope to have another one one day. Listening to that engine scream again nearly brought a tear to my eye I'm telling you. What a motor.

I got it in Sept 2001, so it was on the new plates (YR51 POV). A crackin' motor I regret selling. Never modded it, just ragged it and cleaned it. Pushing the car by hand of the garage so my parents wouldn't wake up, to go race with friends and the blues xD

If anything the XSI felt like it had more bottom end and the power was more linear too. I also drove a mates S2 Rallye and tbh it didn't impress me. I was impressed with that car and kept it for 15yrs as a second car now a caged up rally cross car with its new owner who bought it off me 5yrs ago. Xsi the better car though so raw. The power steering alone changed the feel of the car on the vtr. Mk1 rallye is something else a whole new level of rawness something they lost on the mk2 rallye

      I actually had a vtr first but crashed that, racing.

    Weirdly…
    I’m sat sewing up a rallye red carpet while watching this, someone cut it to put a cage in the original car in the distant past like an absolute melt.
    I have 2 Rallye carpets one mint one and this one I’m doctoring. One in each Saxo.
    Last clean one I saw sold on eBay for over £200, for a carpet! And don’t even get me started on the gearbox…

    You can't put a 16v head on the 8v block easily, the pistons aren't the same to start, so much easier to just put the whole 16v lump in & swap the bits over, not easy if you can't wire though.
