  • In this video, the car went to its MOT and I take the little 106 Rallye legend for a spin.
    It is in my opinion one of the best hot hatch cars of the 90´s, and its hard to find anything that can compete withing the budget.

    My French car has excellent build quality and comfort too. Peugeot 3008 1.5 hdi eat8 GT Line Premium.
    130 horsepower and up to 60 miles per gallon too.
    But my favourite French car was a Renault 5 TS 1.4 petrol series one back in the early 1980’s with the high back seats. Now that was fun to drive and easily lifted a rear wheel if you turned in tightly. Never let us down once.

      .. I really should not say much about newer cars because i dont know much about them... but in my experience there was some build quality issues in the late 90 and 00s at least... Especially compered to Toyota...
      One thing the french cars got is comfort... its way better then other cars in my opinion.
      The Renault 5 is amazing.... We had a 1,1 super 5 for awhile... it was soo nice and very tough... that could not lift a wheel tho! way to slow... ;)

      There was a trick to it as the guy who sold it to us showed. Even below 50 Kmph just really turn the steering wheel very quickly almost too far and then take the steering lock off and up came a rear wheel.
      It looked really on the edge from outside but it was very controllable because the TS was the sporty one with twin choke carb and stiffer rear suspension.
      Had another 5 in the 90’s but that was a base one with softer suspension and it just lent over a long way a bit like a 2CV does.
      The 3008 is too big to try anything daft like that in but it’s really comfortable and it’s now only 18 months old.
      My partner drives it more than me as she prefers it to her 2008.

    you need to change at least at 7000rpm! the red line is at 7200rpm

  • @matta6554
    @matta6554 4 года назад

    that what i wanted to say, you need to use them before, no way they will pass the mot on a full rebuild base. And another thing about these car like the citroen ax and 106 we regularly need to seat in the trunk .. (yes yes) for have the rear break ok at the french MOT

    • @SeasideGarage
      @SeasideGarage  4 года назад

      Hehe good trick... But the ralllye does not have a load valve in the rear, so sitting in the trunk wont help on that model tho... :)

    You are changing gears at 6’000 rpm? Why? The max. power is at arround 7200 rpm.

    And the phase 2 is .. just a better car sorry ... you need to try it out, the car is rough and light in the same way but more rigid and with disc brakes all around. it's 50 kg more because of the iron cast 1.6 motor.
    The gti (s16 in france) is a good car but way to heavy. i didn't really liked it.

    • @SeasideGarage
      @SeasideGarage  4 года назад +2

      Maybe the phase 2 I saw wasent a good example...
      And im just more impressed by 100hp from a 1,3 then 105 on a 1,6... i really like the pumped little engine which needs alot of revs to really work.. :)
      The disc brakes is a good upgrade tho....

      @@matta6554 The 106 and saxo are virtually identical though - there isn't much of a difference between the S2 rallye and a VTR really. The S1 at least had some quite unique characteristics...that engine was not found in any other model, for example - and was truly homologated for rallying, whereas the S2 was not.
