In the 54th episode in the series Body Piercing Basics, DaVo covers how to reduce damage to teeth, gums, bones and the structure of your mouth while wearing a tongue piercing. In this video, he covers anatomy, placement, jewelry size, jewelry type, jewelry material and what you should do to avoid damage.
This video is designed for those new to Body Piercing and as an educational introduction. You should always consult a professional piercer or medical profession before getting any piercing or embarking on a piercing procedure. One of the concepts behind this series is to give the average person the ability to have an educated conversation with their piercer.
I aka DaVo have been a professional body piercer and the owner of the Axiom Body Piercing Studio in Des Moines, Iowa since 1994. My focus on education and helping clients make safe and informed decisions on getting pierced has always been a large part of my business practices and services. With my website and increasingly on youtube, I hope to expand and inform others outside of my small part of the world. I always encourage questions and comments, so if you have one, please comment.

Omg THIS is the video I needed!!!!! All the super undiscussed details about having a tongue ring that I have had a ton of issues with and tried to figure out myself or do research on but found nothing, is ALL in this video!!!! I took my tongue ring out for several months thinking I'm just done, thinking none of the jewelry works for me etc etc etc, almost caused me to lose my piercing. But I decided to try again recently and still been having issues but I want my damn piercing so bad so I kept trying different things and then bam! Here's this video! Thank you!!!!!!!
I'm glad to help and here's hoping this is the time it works out.
This was so informative. I was in pain and freaking out but this helped to calm my nerves
Thank you so much. I've spoken with my mother about getting a togue piercing because it has been my favorite piercing right since before i even knew what a piercing was. My mom wasn't sure if she would let me get one but with this info i think i have a shot

Hi!
Very good and informative video! It’s hard to find professionals talking about and sharing this kind of videos.
I have one question or like a thought. I’m really considering getting a tongue piercing but the only thing that is keeping me from doing it is the risk of damage to the teeth, gums and the mouth in general. I have been looking at different kinds of videos and talkined to some friends about oral piercings and most says that they have not getting any problems. I see that you have one, so how long have you had yours and have you gotten any problems or anything like that?
Would love to get your experience as like a regular person and a piercer at the same time.
I'm not sure how this comment got past me and I'm sorry it took so long to reply.
However, I've had my tongue piercing since 1995. I really haven't noticed any teeth damage that I can say was directly caused by the jewelry. I have had some scares over the years including biting down on the jewelry end and swallowing a few ends.
Awesome video brother

I've had my tongue pierced twice. The first time i had to take it out for a dentist appointment and it closed immediately. The second it was bothering my palate, and i took it out in a moment of frustration. Hopefully third time will be the charm thanks to you

You are welcome and thank you for watching.
I'm really grateful to you and your helpful videos about tongue piercings: I watched all of them, before getting my tongue "double-pierced" (yes, 2 piercings at the same time, one on the back and one in the front).
Though, there is one thing I can't quite seem to find a solution to (or mayhap you covered the topic, and I missed it), which is the "indentations at the sides of the tongue" (I call them "teeth marks")...how can I reduce them? I know they're due to the tongue's swelling, but is there a tip to help them "recover" (= decrease in size) fast?
Thanks to anybody who would be so kind to reply!
These will fade in time. I'm glad to hear that you found the videos helpful and thank you for watching.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing Thank you SO much for taking your time in replying to my answer! I'm doing everything I can to reduce my tongue's swelling, hopefully the indentations will go away soon!
Thank you once again for your kindness, I love how you explain things in the detail!
You're welcome and I'm glad to help. Thank you for watching.
After braces I know I have a low tolerance for metal stuff in my mouth. Lol
I could see that but I don't think it would be the same. Usually, piercings just become part of you.
In your own personal experience, have you experienced any damage or erosion? Apart from asking my piercer is there a way to determine what size you need? Is erosion and damage SOLELY because of placement and interaction?
And just wanna say you are one of my faves I don't even have half of the piercings in the videos you've spoken about but it's so fascinating and so fun to learn you're really awesome for sharing what many struggle to synthesize !!
Personally I haven't but I have seen clients and people who weren't clients with erosion. In most cases it was caused by excessive playing with the piercing and wearing jewelry that was too big. Even in the best cased situation, anatomy and movement is the biggest cause. It's why I always suggest to monitor the piercing area and at the first sign of issues removing the jewelry.
Sizing is often a guessing game. It should be snug when the tongue is in its fastest state. If the jewelry nests a little then maybe slightly shorter.
It's caused mainly by contact. If you can reduce the chances of contact, you will reduce the risks.
Thank you. I'm glad you are enjoying the videos and finding them educational. Thank you for watching.
Hello! I just got my tongue pierced 3 days ago with a long bar. The long bar rests comfortably on the roof of my mouth, but the bottom bar is creating a red circular cut on my lower gums. When the swelling goes down, will changing it to a shorter bar make this cut go away with time? Thank you so much, sending you good health & love from California! ♥️
Sorry for the delay in answering. Yes, the shorter bar should pull the jewelry away and make it fit more comfortably in your mouth.
I'm having the same problem...where the lower bar rests...really throbs...
I changed my tongue ring from the initial piercing, down to 19mm or 3/4 finally after 2 months down to 5/8 standard size
Makes life a lot easier doesn't it?
Looking forward to getting mine once oral piercings are no longer restricted.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Yes I own and operate the Axiom Body Piercing Studio. We are located inside Skin Kitchen Tattoo in Des Moines Iowa. For more information go to our website Axiompiercing.com
Thank you for doing this video. It was very informative and helpful; however, now I don’t trust anyone except a professional like you to do my tongue piercing 😂. I’m scared the angle and size of the jewelry will be wrong simply because they do not know any better. Is what you have said common knowledge among most piercers, or do most piercers perform them incorrectly?
Yes, the tongue is a very commonly done piercing and they should have an understanding of placement and what will work best with your anatomy.
Do you research, fond the right person and you'll be fine. I have to say I've less people with damage than those with.
Hi! Love your videos! How do you know if you have nerve damage from a tongue piercing? I am on day three with my piercing and when I flex my tongue, the bottom of my tongue has this weird pulling sensation and I feel some pain in my jaw. Should I take the piercing out?
Sorry, it took so long to respond but it is a reaction to the swelling more than likely. When a part of the body swelling it spreads out those nerve endings and it can make it feel like the area is numb. This should fade.
Of course I find this after taking mine out 😢 I am NOT doing that healing process a third time 😅
Sorry that you got to the video after you abandon the piercing.
So I’ve had my piercing in for 10 years I guess I have gum damage erosion basically I can feel the shape of the ball on the roof of my mouth I guess where it’s laid all these 10 years it doesn’t bother me but is this bad?? I get a smaller bar do you think I can reverse it??
It's hard to say, usually not.
So, when you replace that longer barbell with shorter jewelry after the healing is done, what size should you look for?
Mist commonly the length is reduced by an 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch. The jewelry should slightly exceed the thickness of the tongue when it is in it largest position.
i just got my tongue pierced and i’m super worried about gum erosion or chipping of my teeth. i’m gonna wait a week and if i see any signs of erosion, i’ll just call the piercing studio and ask them if i should take it out
Those issues usually do not show up until much further into having the piercing. I would suggest downsizing the jewelry and then monitoring how much contact you have.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing it’s been almost two years since I had it pierced, and thankfully I never ended up having any issues! at first it was kinda uncomfortable to have in my mouth, but I left it alone rather than getting rid of it, and eventually I just got used to the feeling. thanks for all of your videos on tongue piercings! they were super helpful in deciding if I really wanted to get one, so I genuinely appreciate it :)
I have an 8 gauge slave bar in my tongue. Had it for about 18 of the 20 years I've had my tongue pierced and it doesn't really come in contact with my teeth because I have a pretty short bar and lots of practice.
That ring would drive me nuts flipping back and forth and more than likely increase my desire to play with it. However, I'm guessing you have good anatomy, correct placement, and the correct length.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing I think I played with it a lot when I first got it done but after 18 years or so it's just a part of me now 😄 I've had to put in a regular one a few times throughout the years and that always drives me nuts lol my piercer did an amazing job with placement and with putting me at ease because I was so nervous and scared but I barely felt it
Yes it amazing how piercings just become a part of you. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and watching.
Can you tell me about lymph fluid ? Is it normal for healing process ?
It is often common with all piercings during the healing period. With tongue piercings it is often part of the discharge and has a yellowish snot like appearance.
Morning sir, my name is Lonnie I recently got my tongue pierced and today made a “week.” Yes, I have a longer bar in. But I have questions. It feels like I can’t extend my tongue: from getting it pierced it feels my my tongue doesn’t rest in the pocket in mouth it seems like it doesn’t relax and now my throat hurts. Will a shorter bar help…is this question or normal concern?
I know you talked about webbing but I have a question. So I do have a long webbing underneath my tongue so the piercer decided to place the bottom ball between the webbing & the vein. It’s still at a diagonal angle like you explained & i Believe the top bar is centered correctly. I just wanted to confirm that if the wedding is pretty long is it safe to do? Have you done that before? How do you feel about it?
Since the webbing usually points to the tendon being further forward, the issue is whether or not the jewelry will sit comfortably on the underside and not have additional contact with the bone structure.
Dude thanks many very informative. Right on ..can I get I live in a van down by the river. Dude u are so Chris Farley u even sound like him bro .thanks man.
🤘🏼💀🤘🏼
Yeah I get that from time to time. You are welcome and thank you for watching.
I wear dentures. There’s a plastic plate that adheres the top set to the roof of my mouth. I
Does this make me a poor candidate for this piercing? I have a lip piercing already
It really depends on your anatomy. I have had clients with dentures in the past and the main issue was click against the plate. Over time this could damage the plate.
I'm on day 6 now and the barbell is a 22mm going to be so glad when it's time to change to my 16mm, the tongue isn't swollen anymore so at the moment it's just 2 pieces of the bar with some weight on it touching everything in there 🙄
I generally suggest downsizing a tongue piercing after 7-10 days.
@@BodyPiercingTattooingI changed mine after 5 days because my tongue had a tear, and I replaced it with an acrylic ball. Is it okay?
If I get delrin material tonge piercing jewelry is it still very prone to damage teeth?
Yes, it is hard plastic and has the added risk of having possibly toxic plastic in your mouth.
If it’s only been a minimum of 3 weeks, am I able to change the tongue piercing size to a shorter barbell?
Yes, I usually suggest downsizing in 7-10 days. So yes, I would suggest seeing your piercer and having them downsize for you.
So right now I'm 33 years old and thinking of getting this done. Problem is when myself was 18 I got into a car accident and nearly bit my tounge off. I mean less than 1/4 from my tounge being completely gone. Had to get twelve stiches in it. My question is will the previous damage to my tounge have any effect on getting it pierced and the whole healing process. Thanks for the informative videos to.
It shouldn't be an issue unless there isn't enough length to pierce it correctly. It's really hard to know without seeing the tongue first hand.
What about Aleve or Ibuprofen. To help swelling and pain?
If you have never had issues with them, then they can help. When in doubt, check with your doctor before taking any medications.
I’m sick w a bad head cold and have a canker sore right underneath corner near bottom ball of my tongue ring ouch!
ouch, Hopefully it fades quickly.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing thank you got better in a weeek!
I switched to a 9/16 bar and got some 5mm balls. The 6mm balls were too big for me and left dents in my gums. Can’t really play with my tongue ring now but it doesn’t leave dents nor does it touch my teeth especially when I’m chewing.
Often just changing to smaller balls makes a huge difference. Thank you for sharing and watching.
I’m wondering, where would you even find pieces of jewelry that is both safe and has both flat top and bottom 🤔 ?
Most better manufacturers make labret studs and threaded disc ends.
Davo I just subscribed to your channel. I've had my tongue pierced since I was 19, but I removed it due to getting braces. I currently live in Minnesota, I was wondering if you had any shops or colleagues that you would recommend here in Minnesota?
I used to suggest saint Sabrina in Minneapolis but sadly they have closed. Currently I don't really have someone to suggest up there.
@@BodyPiercingTattooingI may have to make a drive to Iowa 😂
How do I know if my placement is correct?
So- when in rest, my tongue is pressed to the roof of my mouth, i have a rather large tongue, and a kinda small mouth, does that mean i shouldnt get one? (Bad time to ask since im getting it done today- lol)
It's always hard to say without seeing your anatomy first hand. However I think it is normal to have the tongue rest against the roof of you mouth in the front. However further back the roof usually slants upward.
The biggest thing is to downsize the jewelry in 7 to 10 days after the piercing is done.
After the first two weeks do u advise getting your piercer to change the bar or can you do it yourself?
I got mine done 2 days ago, and I can feel the top ball on the roof of my mouth but not my front teeth, I’m not sure if it’s cuz of placement or because of the longer bar. What do you think it could be?
This common with the longer barbell that it is pierced with. The jewelry should be downsized asap to a shorter bar. I suggest within a week to ten days.
My top ball is nesting about halfway, but no other isues! What do you mean by watch it?
The turning point is when the tissue begins to grow over the ball. It is rare but it can happen.
All piercings I have gotten, no matter how well I keep them clean and taken care of they go through a really bad infection stage. All but my nose I have kept, but im really thinking about getting my tounge pierced. Please help?
There is a difference between an infection and a problematic piercing. The key is isolating the piercing and saline.
I have a long bar in my tongue witch one do I put next
It really depends on your anatomy and the placement of the piercing but the most common length is 5/8
Is the any safe material that is clear/transparent to change once the tongue piercing is healed? Is there any retainer for tongue piercing? Thank you
Not really. I don't suggest the plastic jewelry because it is certified as biocompatible. There are labret ends that can reduce visibility but nothing that is going to completely hide the piercing.
I re did mine as the top was still open after 8 years of not having one in slipped right in perfectly only little resistance where the scar tissue from the needle was done the first time similar to how my ear piercing is
Does a bigger ball stop nesting
Somewhat but it has more to do with the length of the jewelry and how your body deals with the the piercing.
How to fix embedding during after a week of healing...
Longer jewelry and maybe larger ends.
In terms of materials, would Bioplast or BioFlex be beneficial to avoid gum damage?
I no longer suggest plastics. Regardless of what they claim about safety, there is risks to long term exposure. Also the plastic is often hard enough to cause damage.
My swelling isn’t going down and I’m not sure what to do. I got a bigger bar over a week ago and I’m not making any progress. I can talk mostly fine and I’m eating normal. I just have a huge bar still,
Sorry for the late reply, did it ever go down? Sometimes it can take a while for the swelling to recede. I'm guessing that if you had to go to a longer bar it added time because your body was swelling because the jewelry was too short and that adds greatly to the period of swelling.
@@BodyPiercingTattooingI actually ended up removing it after about a month of continuous swelling and trying again a while later at a different shop with better quality jewelry and it healed like a charm! Thank you lots for the reply ❤
Hi I had a question. I got my tongue pierced 6 days ago today and I've noticed that my tongue has a couple of "cracks" that are stemming from the piercing hole. Is that normal??? Nobody ever talks about that... I've searched everywhere for info
It isn't commonly caused by the piercing. Did you have the cracks before getting pierced?
My tongue piercing is a day old, the bottom ball keeps rubbing or hitting the back of my teeth, not super hard but it does. Will a shorter barbell help with that?
I need to know as well
My tongue web is really long, almost to the tip of the tongue. Can the piercing be placed next to it in the bottom? So its off center in the bottom if thats even possible🤷♀️
It's hard to say without seeing the area first hand but my guess is that no, it shouldn't be pierced. It can be done off to the side but it will be extremely uncomfortable and lead to issues.
I got my tongue pierced 1 week + 5 days ago and I am still feeling numbness at the tip of my tongue on the left side. I’m going to see my piercer in 2 days (April 29) to ask about it and get my jewelry downsized but I’m worried about nerve damage. The moment that I got it pierced I felt that numbness in the exact same spot on the left side tip and it just hasn’t gone away or improved. The piercing itself looks great there’s no pain or discomfort for me at the site of the piercing, but I am only getting numbness and some pain at the left tip and sometimes a pulling or stretching feeling along the left side of my tongue. Has anyone else has this experience? I’m really worried that it’s permanent nerve damage
I highly doubt that it is nerve damage. Often people mistake the swelling as numbness. It should fade.
Did you ever see any improvement on the tip of your tongue? I sorta have the same symptoms--mine on the right side of the tip, but the 'pulling sensation' has subsided slightly. On this date I'm at 5 days.
@@bananna7122 did yours go away? Currently on day 4 and the tip of my tongue feels numb
@@elizabethbartolon7833 Hey there! I had mine in for about 2 1/2 weeks before removing it, but here was my experience:
A little over a week, the burnt feeling was gone, and the 'pulling/stretching' sensation had almost completely subsided, but occasionally I would feel it after waking up. However, even after 2 weeks, although the area I felt the numbness did shrink, the sensation still persisted on the right side tip after the 2 week point.
By this time, I went back to the piercer, and they advised that the 'swelling was pushing on the nerves and I should wait another week'. I also got a second opinion from an APP piercer who was concerned about the angle placement.
After waiting half a week with no improvements, I decided to take it out--and I'm glad I did. The answer that piercer gave me was really fishy, and I'm glad I listened to my gut cuz I still experienced numbness for the rest of the month after removing it. It's very occasional, but even now I'll sometimes feel twinge of numbness along super tiny pulling sensation on the right tip from time to time, months later.
If you decide to take it out, I'd strongly recommend visiting an APP piercer if you have one in your area/able to commute. I got impatient and visited a local shop that was doing under the mask piercings (my usual APP was/is still under mask mandate). Sorry for the wall of text, but I hope it helps!
Can I get a tongue web and a tongue piercing?
It depends on your anatomy but you might find the combination unconfortable
im slightly tongue tied but i have about 1 centimetre of free space on the tip of my tongue... i really want to get it pierced but im just concerned that it will be too far at the front of my tongue, and will damage my teeth. do you think it would be possible to get it done at a more extreme angle, or would that be dangerous? ps, love your videos !
Without seeing your tongue in person it's hard to say but if there is only a centimeter of free space, I would suggest against it.
Hey I need help I have a tongue piercing since 5 days ago and I’m trying to see if it’s infected or not. On the first 4 days everything been good but on this fifth day I woke up bleeding a little bit in the morning but it did stop but at night time it began by feeling my tongue tingling and after that it started bleeding without stoping for a few hours is that ok? Or is it a symptom of a infected piercing? Pls anyone I need help and thanks
I don't think this is an infection. I think it's a result of trauma to the piercing and the tingling is from swelling. It would be best to see your piercer and have them take a look.
What vain do u have to avoid wen Piercing your tongue
Are silicone bars safe? And will that help with teeth chipping and stuff?
The problem is that silicone is not going to thread onto silicone. So usually the end is a metal ball with silicone coating or its something that is going to strip out.
Since most this stuff comes low-end manufacturers, chances are that it it isn't implant grade silicone. Since it isn't very durable, you are going to end up digesting pieces of it.
I got mines done 5 days ago and I have soooo much saliva under my tongue & my bottom teeth kinda like hurt a little . Maybe it’s cause tooooo much saliva on the teeth or ?
No, I'm guessing that it is a reaction to the trauma of the piercing or your jewelry is hitting your teeth. If the angle is too slanted and when you close your mouth the jewelry is in contact with your lower gums and teeth, you should abandon the piercing. Also, understand that shorter jewelry will limit contact.
I just got my tongue pierced about 2 weeks aga but the soft tissue is stretching and I feel like it is embedding inside my tongue, please what can I do
It will often nest a little. It is hard to say without seeing the piercing first hand. Your best bet is to see your piercer.
I just got a venom tongue piercing and she pierced the right side crooked and a bit higher then the left side and they sit right on my teeth.. but I’m a week in and I don’t want to get it redone because the swelling was bad. Should I take them out and just get a traditional tongue piercing?
If there is no issues and the uneven placement doesn't bother you, there is no reason to have it redone.
I got my tongue pierced a week and a half ago. The swelling has gone down. And the bar is annoyingly long. The piercer said come back in 4-8 weeks. Should I go back sooner
Yes, there is no reason not to downsize the jewelry.
I tried to go to piercer after 10 days, my swelling had subsided and the barbell was against the roof of my mouth when resting. I've been told not to come back until after a month. What might happen between day 10 and day 30 if jewelry is changed too early?
There is no reason to wait a month to downsize.
I changed mine to 3/4 bar after 10 days
im getting mine in a few days and im so scared im gonna chew on it in my sleep…
I’m trying to order a 14k gold tongue ring. I figured my standard size is 14g, what is the standard barbel length & ball mm size? I’ve had mine for years & used to get my piercing barbels from hot topic or Walmart but I haven’t bought new ones in years so I’m a little lost on sizes. I see 5/8, 5/16, 1/4, 3/8 7/16 then 3mm or 5mm balls etc. I just wanted to order the “standard” size cause I’m sure that’s what I have from hot topic. Also curious on your point of view on gold tongue piercings? The one I’m looking at is 14k gold.
The standard would be 14g 5/8 with 4 or 5mm balls. If you are wearing one that fits well, pull it out and measure the distance between the two balls.
With gold, you want internally thread where the ball have threading attached to the ball and screw into the post. The best ones have implant grade steel threading. Gold threading is more prone to stripping out.
Gold is a great option if you invest in quality. It will reduce dame to teeth because it will often give before teeth.
I have a fear mine might’ve been placed wrong, too close to the front but idk. I just got a shorter bar, when I eat the ball sometimes hits my teeth and when I drink I can feel the bottom ball hit the back of my bottom gums. When my tongue is resting, the bottom ball is resting right in the dip when my bottom gums and the soft tissue under my tongue meets (I guess like the web). I really LOVE the piercing but one of my biggest fears is losing teeth! Any advice?
It does sound like it is too far forward. You might want to try a smaller post or consider re-piercing. Is it right in front of the tendon?
@@BodyPiercingTattooing thanks so much for your response! Nah, the bottom ball is close to being in the middle of the tip of my tongue and the tendon underneath but it’s more closer to the tip. I’m going to take it out for now and wait to have it re-pierced later.
It sounds like sadly, you may not have the anatomy for the piercing. The piercer should have pointed this out and refused to do it or at the very least warned you. Removing the jewelry is the best option. Which I know sucks but it's better than gum and teeth damage that can't be repaired.
I’m getting my tongue pierced soon but I think I have a rather small tongue, would I still be able to get one safely?
It always depends on the length of your tongue and where the tendon connects to the bottom of your tongue. A skilled and experienced piercer will know with a quick long and a little feeling around if you can get the piercing safely.
Hi I have a white bump on my tongue on day 4 will this go away, or what is it rather? Or better yet how can I get rid of it.
It's impossible to say without seeing the piercing first hand. Often when you downsize to a shorter barbell it reduces the movement and the bump goes away. Bottom line, see your piercer and have them take a look.
How is it? Been thinking hardcore on this piercing. With that said; how do I find a piercer with the knowledge of proper positioning? What to ask them? Or should I just come up there to you? Haha.
The key is researching them, ask those that have piercings about who they would suggest and schedule a consultation. Ask a lot of questions about the piercing and the piercer's experience, training and ask to see photos of healed piercings they have done. If they are knowledgeable and passionate about piercing they will happy to share with you.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing Thank you for your wisdom/insight and for responding. I'll definitely check with what youre saying AND ask for photos of theirs. Great idea questioning and seeing their portfolio too! Thank you for posting detailed informative videos and deep discussions on the why things are done and how piercings work on or with certain bodies (ex: if peircing is too far forward and why it's better to be more back, etc).
You are welcome, good luck and let us know how it turns out.
Do you prefer short or long bars??
And in what size ?
Something I've been wondering is if my tongue is just too short to get a tongue piercing without it being too close to my teeth ... im not officially tongue tied but my I can't seem to stick my tongue out super far because of my frenulum. thingy . So idk . Hopefully I can get the piercing
A skilled piercer can usually tell within a few second if the piercing can be done safely.
What about glass jewelry ?
The issue with glass is it isn't durable. They will break in half under pressure. The other issue is that the rubber o rings fall off.
so should the bottom be closer the the tip & the top be further back or vice versa? the bottom ball on mine is closer to the tip & i feel it’s rubbing against my gums on the bottom.
The Angle of the piercing should be slight angled back to match the curvature of the tongue. It shouldn't be to the point where it is putting pressure on your bottom gums. If you are still wearing the longer barbell, downsizing the length may solve this issue.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing i was at the smallest bar i could go for my tongue! i think maybe my webbing was just too far up bc the ball would rub on my gums while talking/eating. took it out lol thank you for replying!
i had mine for 4 days now i have yellow colour on my tounge and a bit swollen toung today my front teeth hurts and when i drink something cold it hurts i dont play whit my piercing i havent bite on it what should i do wait a bit or take it out ?
my teeth hurts and are tender :/
Sounds normal but it's hard to say without seeing the piercing first hand.
If you teeth are tender it makes me wonder what you are using to rinse with.
Is silicone/rubber balls safe?
If they are made out of implant grade silicone.
i’m thinking of getting this wednesday but the only thing is that i have three veins (one down the middle and two on the sides) in my tongue & i feel like because of them i won’t be able to get it.
It really depends on how pronounced it is and its location. Your piercer should be able to read your anatomy and know if it is safe to pierce.
i chipped my teeth eating this week 😫. ive only had it for two weeks oops. i dont know how to eat without moving my tongue side to side
Did you downsize the jewelry? It will make a huge impact on keeping it away from your teeth.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing yes immediately after i downsized and im going to see my piercer because i want a flatter bottom, but im so embarrassed to go to the dentist. i am afraid they'll judge me for keeping it, but i love it
I'm sorry that happened, over time you will get used to keeping it out of the way.
Hello, if my frenulum goes up almost to the tip of my tongue, is it possible to pierce it next to the frenulum either on the right or left side? Or do I have to get it cut? Thank you!! I was at an anatomy check at my local piercing studio and they said it‘s fine and they will find a place to pierce on my tongue. in the rush I didnt ask where exactly and now I fear getting the piercing cause I am afraid it will be too far in the front.
Hey I was thinking about getting two tongue piercings the venom tongue piercings and the snake eyes but I’m conflicted about the snake eyes can you tell me which one I should get first though? Respond when you get a chance🥺❤️
I highly suggest not getting a snake eyes piercing. It a bad idea all around. With venom piercings you really need to have the right anatomy for it.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing well is there any tongue piercings that can look like the snake eyes piercing but not be it if that makes sense
No the issue is the location and your gums and teeth.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing ohhh 😮
You want the jewelry to have limited contact with gums and teeth.
I got it done 15days ago, just took it out yesterday,it was half inch from the tip of my tongue and perfect set in the middle line ,I did my research before getting it done it should be a safe spot to do so but I got this numbness and pulling sensation afterwards ,is it possible that the piercer hit a nerve?
Usually the numbness is caused by the swelling. It will usually return to normal a few days after the swelling goes down.
I'm not sure what the pulling sensation is or what would have caused it. My best guess is that this had more to do with the length of the jewelry. Did you downsize the jewelry?
Body Piercing & Tattooing Thank you for your reply!Yes I did,and the swelling had gone for a certain time,I was carrying a 12mm length barbell before I took it out, unfortunately the numb tip and pulling sensation is still there even though the hole seems closed by now 😦
You're welcome and give it sometime. It should get better.
@@cucujing301 how do u feel now? Cuz I am having this same feeling
Kaycee Smith It didn't go away eversince, but I guess it varies from person to person 。
Im getting my tonque pierced next week ..but Im worried because i have a lot of cracks on my tongue should that be a problem or not ?
Shouldn't be an issue but you may want to ask your dentist about them. Fissured tongues are usually not an issue it it can be a sign of a couple more serious issues. Probably isn't anything but doesn't hurt to ask.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing thank you so much

I want to get mine done but I’m scared that I’ll flinch and pull my tongue in🥴
With most piercings, the piercing is done before you have a chance to react. Also the forceps will help avoid you drawing your tongue in.
I got mine pierced almost a month ago and the tip of my tongue is still slightly numb. Should I be worried, or is nerve damage a risk that you just have to be prepared to live with?
The chance of actual nerve damage is extremely rare. I'm guessing there is still some swelling.
How long have you had your tongue piercing?
My tongue was pierced in November of 1995. So almost 30 years.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing Wow! That's a long time! And you've never had any issues with your teeth because of it?
No. I've lost and swallowed a few balls though. All passed through.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing Lol, nice! It's really cool to know that it is possible to have a successful tongue piercing without incurring damage to your teeth! 😁
@TheHPExperiment it comes down to anatomy, placement and correct size jewelry.
How do you know if you hit a nerve? Or why your tongue feels every tingly
This is a reaction to to the swelling and will fade over time.
I got my tongue pierced in the middle 4 days ago and it has recently started to bleed excessively even though I’ve been cleaning it after ever meal. I also have this dark red gooey stuff under the top of the barbell that won’t come off yet the bottom of my tongue is completely fine..does this mean it’s infected or is it just part of the healing process ?
Without seeing the piercing first hand it is hard to day. My guess is that the barbell is moving around too much and should be downsized as soon as the swelling goes down.
wait, question whats up if the tip of my tongue hurts during week 2? feels tingly and if i press the tip of my tongue against the roof of my mouth it feels like theres a line inside the tip of my tongue? i cant describe it any better than that but its a lil uncomfy
Sounds like the piercing is still swelling. This should fade with time.
See the tip of my tongue is numb and more numb around the piercing.....im on day 3
I have this right now, one week in! Wondering if it ever went away for you / how long it took
Most cases it does.
@@Dan-ws4ck it did go away! after a month and i’d say 2 ish weeks, i havent gotten that feeling since:) but everyone is different! keep taking care of your piercing and it’ll get used to being there lol
How do I know if my piercing is too far forward?
If it too far forward, you will have contact with your front teeth and gums.
