    Awesome advice thank you! Thinking about getting my first cartridge piercings, either a rook, daith, or Tragus. I am not worried about the pain of the peircing itself, moreover worried about which might be more prone to infection/tricky to heal. If you were to go with one of these three for a first timers cartridge peircing which would you suggest?

    Question for ya; I have a four month old helix piercing, which was pretty settled, however I switched out the flatback/straight bar for a hoop just a few days ago, and helix is now quite sore and crusty again 😭
    I’m guessing I changed too soon - would you recommend switching back asap or waiting it out in the hope it settles?

      Sorry for the late reply. Yes, you should switch back to a straight post. I do not suggest changing to circle jewelry for 6-12 months. With Helix Piercings it is best to wait a year.
      As far as cleaning, it sounds like the piercing may not be healed yet. I would suggest cleaning it twice daily with sterile saline spray and rinsing it under running water at the end of your shower.

    My tip to help stop sleeping on an ear piercing is to use a donut shaped hemorrhoid or travel neck pillow to sleep on with the piercing in the center hole. I want to start a funky hemorrhoid pillow business marketed to the freshly pierced that will be stocked in all piercing salons world wide.

      I think we are all drawn to new piercings but it's best not to handle it. It is best to leave the jewelry in until the piercings are healed. Changing them could prolong the healing, cause infection or other issues or you may not be able to get the jewelry back in.

      With some women they notice sensitivity during their monthly cycles. Also even healed piercings cam react to trauma. Sometimes some thing as minor as rolling over on the piercing or bumping will cause them to flair up.
      There are, a number of other things that could lead to this but often it's improper jewelry style, material and/or size and a jewelry change ends the problem.

    I have another question.. I recently got a straight barbell swapped for a captive bead ring on my lorum. The ring went in fine according to my piercer, but over the last couple days it has been really irritated. It bleeds a bit and I am wondering if it would be better to leave the scab intact? It just seems counter intuitive to me to saline soak and have the scab fall off rather than leaving the scab and letting new skin develop. What do you think?

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  Год назад

      It's hard to say without seeing the piercing first hand but the ring maybe too small for the length of the piercing. Over time the piercing may migrate to wear it will be comfortable but is it doesn't improve or worsens, see your piercer and switch back to the barbell.

      Generally we try to avoid piercing through a hair follicle. So an adjustment may be needed and done while marking the piercing. To avoid it I will usually bring the placement up or down a little.
      Otherwise, the hair shouldn't cause any issues. During the piercing we will move it out of the way to avoid the hair being in the path of the piercing.

    • @zakattack467
      @zakattack467 Год назад

      @@BodyPiercingTattooing I did find that a hair is growing right on the perimeter of the piercing on one side. I think this has caused a ‘plateau’ in its healing. Basically every afternoon that one side is slightly swollen and beginning to overlap onto the hair follicle. In the mornings the hair is exposed, but by the end of the day the follicle is kind of inside the piercing. I have an appointment with my piercer tomorrow and am concerned that this piercing will need to be redone. Anyways, all I can do is hope for the best.

    Hi have a question, what do you think of surface tragus' (sideburn piercings)? I just got mine and I was hoping to watch a video on them from a piercer's point of view since I haven't seen any videos on them yet

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  5 лет назад +1

      Like all surface to surface piercings, I refuse to do them. You should have been advised to the risk of rejection in the pre-piercing consultation. There is a small section of the public that seems to be able to heal out surface to surface piercings with little or no issues. However, a majority of people do not have this superpower and unique anatomy, which means that the piercing will begin to reject within a few years. Usually, after the piercing area has received some minor trauma.
      That said there is a difference between a vertical tragus and a surface tragus. The vertical tragus is done through the tragus itself. Usually takes forever to heal and unless it is done dead-on centered, will have a mountain of issues. It is not an easy piercing to do or to heal.
      A surface Targus or Sideburn piercing is usually done through the tissue where the tragus meets the face. Basically a little in front of the tragus. This piercing isn't much different than piercing any loose skin on your face.
      With most traditional non-surface to surface piercings, the piercing is done through an area of the body that protrudes from the body and is lobe like with two sides. For example an earlobe or a nipple or a tongue or a tragus. This allows the piercing to be placed in a way where it is easier for your body to grow tissue around the jewelry and form the piercing than it is to reject and push it from the body. When you just pinch a flat area of the body, pierce it and put jewelry in that doesn't have the correct structure to reduce the body's ability to reject the jewelry, it will reject it. For example, the fingers, the back of the hand or arm, the nape of the neck, the anti-eyebrow, etc... It may not happen right away but the body will slowly reject it the same way it would a splinter of wood in your fingertip. Instead of focusing on growing tissue around the jewelry, it will focus on forcing the jewelry out. So, often even if the piercing doesn't reject, it will never really heal.
      There is the misconception that piercings like this are commonplace thanks to the internet. Often the photo is taken minutes after the piercing is done or within a few days afterward. They do not show the piercing months later when it has either healed or began to reject. Thanks to social media and image sharing sites, often the image of one piercing is re-posted millions of times leaving the impression that there are a number of people out there walking around with this piercing when in reality it's maybe only a handful. The real problems start when piercings with less than professional ethics begin to do this piercing on anyone that walks through their door without informing them of the risks and chances of rejection. This is one of the many reasons it's important to research your piercer and the piercing beforehand.
      With that, all said, good luck with healing the piercing out. If it is a surface to surface version, I highly suggest that it be done with a surface to surface bar and not a curved barbell. Changing the jewelry might hold off rejection but it also might increase it. Also if you begin to notice that the piercing is starting to reject or migrate, removing the jewelry asap will reduce the amount of scarring. Like I said there are some people that just have the right stuff to heal these out, good luck and here's hoping that's the case.

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  Месяц назад

      Both really depend on your anatomy. Both have their own risks. Tongue the main risks are damage to teeth, gums and bones. Eyebrow piercings can be prone to migration and rejection if you don't have the right jewelry and/or anatomy. Tongue piercings heal faster but will impact your life more including diet and speech.

      A short term solution would be wrapping a small rubber band around the post or if you have one an o-ring. Other options would be to put another piece of jewelry in or taping the jewelry in place with medical tape or a band-aid.
      I would be mainly concerned about it falling out when your sleeping.

    Hey there. So I got my medusa done yesterday. They put a small labret in so my inner lip is sealing the piercing. And I can feel it’s on an angle because the bottom part of the circle sticks out and the top is pushing into my skin. When I smile the piercing is on the right side of my face instead of in the middle. I’m going back later today to get a longer bar but they want to charge me $15 for a longer one despite it being their fault they gave me a shorter bar. I want to ask to take it and get it redone in the centre of my face but I’m terrified they will get offended. I want to voice my concerns but I worry they will say “just wait a few weeks”. I want to believe it’s just swollen but when I line the piercing up it is closer to the right side of my face. So I want to take it out and let it feel ASAP so I can get it done properly ASAP. I’m just worried they will look at me like I’m dumb. How should I go about voicing my concerns without offending them? I’m just super keen on wanting a straight piercing especially my medusa. And I don’t want to be a burden assuming they didn’t do their job right. But there was no clamp being used so that’s why I think it’s at a slant. I’m just not sure how to say this without acting like a know it all

      If you came in to my studio and said you were unhappy with the placement, I would gladly remove the jewelry and apologize for the placement not being what you wished. Then would offer to re-pierce it for free after it healed over.
      I want you to be happy with the piercing and will do what it takes to make you the piercing right. Of course I'll be bummed but it's true right thing to do.
      As far as talking to them about it, just say you are unhappy with the angle and it's off center. Be claim, nice and point out your issues. I'm sure they will do what needs to be done. If not, they are the piercer for you and you should take your business elsewhere. Piercers make mistakes and they know they do. There will always be swelling and it will cause the piercing to often look crooked. So listen to what they have to say. Oh and yes, they should replace the jewelry for free.

      Body Piercing & Tattooing so I just got home. They told me that I didn’t need a longer bar. And that the plate is supposed to “nest” into my skin and that’s why my lip skin is covering the whole plate. I explained that it’s the top half of the plate digging in to my lip causing my skin to cover it and the bottom half of the plate is sticking out. I then explained that I originally wanted my piercing more centred and lower than what it was pierced. They told me that because it’s “not crooked enough” if I want it pierced the way I like I have to pay $115 again. So I have to pay full price for a whole new piercing. I almost left in tears because I can not afford that and I just spent $115 on a piercing that I’m not happy with. I’m really trying to believe that it’s the swelling causing it to be crooked. But AS SOON as she put the jewelry in after piercing I instantly felt the top half of the labret plate pushing into my skin like this (if my face is pointing towards my profile pic) \ . I find it hard to believe that my lip swelled up instantly after having it pierced and that’s why it felt like this right away and not over time. I just feel slightly scammed because I could barely afford this piercing to begin with. And if I want it done how I originally wanted I need to pay that much again. It just breaks my heart

    • @xandrias6411

      They were trying to charge me $25 to put a longer post. Then told me that if it ends up being crooked and not because of the swelling I will have to pay $115. I left the current post I have in because there is something in my gut telling me it’s not the swelling. And if I were to pay the $25 for the longer post it will just make the crookedness more noticeable, and then I will take it out and have to pay the $115 to get it redone. So it would’ve been $255 in total that they wanted from me for all of that. It blows my mind. Because I fully understand piercers make mistakes, and the piercer was super nice. But she called her boss and her boss is the one who said there’s nothing they can do because “it’s not crooked enough”

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  4 года назад +1

      If it isn't centered and isn't straight then they need to stand behind their work and re-pierce it. There us no such thing as it not being pierced incorrectly enough. It's either right or it isn't. At the least they should have offered to re-pierce at a reduced rate.
      My advice, share your experience on their Google business page, Facebook and everywhere you can review the studio. Also tell your friends. Swelling can cause the piercing to seem off and it can happen quickly but the whole it's not off enough to re-pierce is questionable business practices to say the least.

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing

      Then she needs to consider working for someone else. Like I said post reviews, and tell friends because it doesn't seem that the reputation is important enough to the owner to protect and back their products.

I always did as he told me so wash 2x a day with the soap and spray he sold me. This time he didn’t respond me... so I am trying using jojoba oil on the area to stop the dryness but it isn’t helping. What should I do?

    • @girlbye5068
      @girlbye5068 4 года назад +4

      Well you’re using soap that’s stripping the freshly pierced skin. Try sea salt water or use the soap occasionally and leave the piercing alone. Use some type of essential oil like olive oil or any natural oil at that to keep it moisturized

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  4 года назад +6

      I no longer suggest soap unless the area has been contaminated. I'm not sure what spray they sold you but it should be a sterile saline spray like neilmed piercing aftercare or wound wash spray. The saline is enough to heal the piercing.

    My question, my PA seems to having an issue with having a dryness around the wound and at times ive been concerned about infection. Im taking zink and have had to take antibiotics for COVID19. But my PA seems to have good days and then one bad out of 7. Ive had for a month, and the piercer has come down with Covid 19 so cant go to them for an answer. Ive considered just going into the dr's and asking for antibiotics but am afraid they will have me take out my pa and ill be at the starting point.
    The after care i was told wasn't for as long as you suggest. So I have reverted back to after care doing the sea salt soaks on the area. Anti bacteria soap,, and anti bacteria cream. But ultimately I just dont want to loose the PA and in the future have to start again. Tks

      No swimming. Natural waters are filled with millions of microorganisms that keep the water system healthy. The piercing is an open wound and those microorganisms are foreign pathogens that all could cause an infection. The only time it is safe to swim with a piercing is after it is completely healed.

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  4 года назад +1

      Well, that isn't the best solution. The reason there isn't much information is that they are a rare piercing and most people don't have the right anatomy for the piercings.
      As far as care goes. Use sterile saline spray like neilmed piercing aftercare or wound wash spray twice daily. Spray on, leave in contact for 5 to 10 minutes, rinse, or wipe clean with a sterile gauge sponge or clean paper. For the first two weeks rinse twice daily with a non-alcoholic mouthwash like biotene. Also rinse with distilled water and sea salt(1/8 of a teaspoon per cup of distilled water) a couple of times a day.

    I had third lobe piercings done and followed the aftercare religiously. I even left the original piercing earring in and continued the aftercare for an additional month. I finally changed my jewellery and put in gold hoops. They were fine for a while but then got really irritated (not infected though). I put just plain gold studs back in and went back to my aftercare instructions. I figure I’d leave them alone for the next 6 months to be sure. I read somewhere that the older you are, the longer it can take to heal (which makes sense when you think about it). I’m in my 50’s so is there a more realistic timeline that I should be following or does it really vary per person and how will I know for sure that they’re healed?

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing

      Discharge is normal with all piercings. With oral piercings instead of hardening on the jewelry it will form in these yellowish strings that usually form on the bottom. They look kind of like snot.
      There is no connection between issues with dairy products that I've been able to find. There is a myth that it increases the risk of thrush.
