I love this video. So positive and humble. I just started skating a couple months ago and love entering the skating rink. Even though sometimes I might be the only white dude on the floor, everybody makes me feel welcome. A lovely black lady saw that I was having trouble skating backwards and she came up to me with a beautiful smile, took me by the hand and taught me to skate backwards. Like you mentioned in this video, I also feel better connected to black people than ever before since skating. The rink just magically brings people together no matter what color we are. More of God and Roller Rinks would make America a better place.
I'm from one of the "smallest big cities" in the U.S. and at any given session, we've got the rainbow of skin tones here. Blacks, whites, Mexicans, Asians, Egyptians....doesn't matter. If you've got wheels on your feet...we roll!!! :)
I play roller derby - everything he said about the community is 1000% true. My derby sisters are my family!!!! Derby has done so much for helping my self confidence and feel included
I have depression issued and don't do well in crowds anymore. But I've been watching a lot of skating videos and just by watching I feel inspired. This video was very inspirational. I haven't gone skating since Jr. High and in my 40's I think I should go back out there and enjoy myself. I love dancing and I really miss the feel of gliding around on the floor. This video has made feel confident enough to give it another go. So thank you for showing the difficulty and fun of reconnecting to the positive parts of my childhood. Have fun and enjoy life as if you won't see tomorrow because life is to short to go through it in pain everyday. Much love to all the pro skaters who just love the joy it gives. Peace, love, and fun everyone.
Tons. tons of young Black kids didn't feel "Black" enough. It's getting better, but I bet you dollars to donuts it was from the Black community as well.
That means he grew up around white people and felt more comfortable around them. Brown skinned people(black) have a different type of energy. I love it!
You did great! I use to roller skate every weekend when I was growing up....LOVED IT!!! now that I'm 50-something I really want to get back into it. You have inspired me. Thank You. Hope I don't break a hip bone.
Be careful, go slow, don't push yourself to hard. I took a 12-ish year break to have kids...my youngest was 17 months when we headed back to the rink...now as a family. It's just like riding a bicycle. That muscle memory DOES come back. For some, it may take as little as half an hour or so...for others, it may take a couple months of going regularly...but it IS still in you! :) My youngest is now 14 and we hit the skate parks, weather permitting, of course! Roll on!!
Hell dude go for it last time I skated I was 50 now gonna be 75 and last year got new skates so I practice in my garage at that age u know ur getting old, but just like riding a bike, u never forget the beat,
Super pumped to see this, I’m teach Jam Skating, JB skating, and trucking skate lessons at our rink here in Tennessee and it’s slowly making a comeback!! There is nothing for the Youth in this area to do, so if I can get them hooked on skating instead of other horrible activities.
if your dancing but have the addition of role scared your dancing while skating, if your skating to school and not stopping but doing. dance your dancing while skating. it's what I think at least
Dope video I’m from KC and we used to tear it up at Grandview skating rink in the 90’s. I hadn’t skates since 96 , last night at 42 I jumped backed on them skates … it’s up lol
He nailed that split! One of the things I really like about these videos is how positive the crowd is, especially knowing that the performer is trying something new or different. Proud of you, Ryan!
Man! You don't know how much I need this, because its been years since I skated comfortably. I like those skates that Quest has, I think I'll put my old skates to rest & get some new ones that look like soul dance skates. This video is definitely inspiring! Way to go.
Last time i skated (a week ago) I fell and broke my tailbone. BUT! I want to learn how to skate well enough to do Roller Derby. You go dude! that's so cool.
King's Skate Country in Sacramento was the place to be back in the day. 6 to Midnight, Friday and Saturday night! Now it's The Rink, same place, new name!
I'm new to the skating world and I'm here because I'm trying to figure out if I want to get into dance skating or roller derby. Honestly, this looks soooo fun. Great video!!!
This defintly takes me back to my teenage days. I couldn't do all of that but I could skate and dance a little bit .But more importantly I had fun .u did good .
it makes me happy that this was like historically thought about by him, and that t wasn’t just like an “i tried to jam skate” video. that’s what makes me very happy, considering i am a jam skater myself.
please try roller derby. its a lot of fun and think you'd be the right build for it, can has the amazing community with it. also your skating is really good and hope you find more time even just to do a casual skate.
As a mixed girl (dad is full black, mom is Mexican and white) it hurts to hear my people feeling they aren't enough to be a part of their culture. "Not black enough" I hear ppl day it so much. I get a lot of ppl who tell ME that and oh I love going off on them. Don't take my heritage from me. When both sides of my heritage can't get along with each other and each tells me I'm not enough of either to claim ground! I am what I am, and I'm proud of everything in me. You rocked those skates! ❤️
I’m as pasty as a vampire, but skating has also become a source of community to me, because at my skating rink (Kansas!) a lot of the people there are queer teens, and I’m able to find more people like me who also have this passion for something that means so much to me and that I’ve been doing from the day I could walk, so I really related to this video and it made me really happy!! :)
OMG I wish he was in on the east coast. I used to dance in the 80's now I want to get back into it. I'm heading to NJ next weekend to hit their skating ring and ummm take it slow.
I'm a jersey dweller, when in jersey checkout branchbrook in newark, woodbridge rink, woodbridge, nj. Roller jam in staten island, ny ROLLEM LIKE YOU STOLE EM! !! Peace !! p.s. rollermagic in south amboy, nj also

I love to skate too and live in New York.We don’t have any great rinks out here for some reason. I’ve been to the outdoor rink in Brooklyn by the promenade but they changed it to some plastic circle flooring- horrible and not so smooth. 🤷🏽♀️
I like how he incorporated history into this video rather another "I tried to do..." vlog. It keeps things a bit more interesting.
achoofull
That’s exactly What i was thinking!
He was great and I loved and appreciated how patient Quest was when teaching him. Really great video.
Completely unrelated but Quest's way of speaking and his positivity is soooo attractive
Tayja Corneiro attractive ASF
Noticed his positive feedback and attitude, great teacher and seems like a cool dude!
Tayja Corneiro it really is though 😩

Im black and where i live, white people skate.
Edit: they skate but they do regular things and "shuffle"... Chile....

That's WASSUP!
JERRYR708 great comment!
Love it!!
I love seeing the roller skating community grow. I artistic roller skate and it was dying down for a while but roller skating is coming back!!!
Maddie Lam yes. It is....
Was never dying down you just wasn’t looking for it they’re have been national jams going on for YEARS* before me that still fill entire rinks
I also do artistic skating and he’s doing pretty well for only a few days
I actually do artistic roller skating to
It never dies down in certain urban areas. Unfortunately gentrification took away our rink in Brooklyn.
Thank you for the proper background, the rink was one of the safest places for black kids
I want to learn how to dance skate now in a week.
I'll settle for not falling on my butt or breaking my wrists. Gravity seems to really like me when I'm on something wobbly.
you have the potential!
recoil53 knees slightly bent. Back straight. Relax. You fall more easily when you’re tense.
❤️UNLEASHING POTENTIAL - PSYCHOLOGY VIDEOS
It is not that difficult if you know how to dance.☑️🆗
I want to learn in my wheelchair
I play roller derby - everything he said about the community is 1000% true. My derby sisters are my family!!!! Derby has done so much for helping my self confidence and feel included
ApocalypseSkies when ever i’m skating it gives me so much more confidence omg

Never knew there were people who didn't feel "black enough" I'm glad he felt empowered by this experience.
Tons. tons of young Black kids didn't feel "Black" enough. It's getting better, but I bet you dollars to donuts it was from the Black community as well.

roll bounce is such a good movie that is so underated
People always underestimate how hard skating is! I love this so much!!!
You did great! I use to roller skate every weekend when I was growing up....LOVED IT!!! now that I'm 50-something I really want to get back into it. You have inspired me. Thank You. Hope I don't break a hip bone.
VoidtexxMom My 63 year old mom picked it back up after 40+ years. She hasn’t fallen once! Don’t doubt yourself!
Be careful, go slow, don't push yourself to hard. I took a 12-ish year break to have kids...my youngest was 17 months when we headed back to the rink...now as a family. I'm with ya, I lived at the rink back in the 70's 5 days a week, would love to get rolling again..
Hell dude go for it last time I skated I was 50 now gonna be 75 and last year got new skates so I practice in my garage at that age u know ur getting old, but just like riding a bike, u never forget the beat,
I'm approaching 50, and started skating again a month ago, best advice I have is put some pads on and go for it!
From an artistic roller skater pov. I freaking love jam skating
I’m gonna rent out a skate center for my birthday and play 70s songs , I LOVE SKATING SO IM EXCITEDD
*I always admired Dance Skaters!*
Jam skaters tbh
Super pumped to see this, I’m teach Jam Skating, JB skating, and trucking skate lessons at our rink here in Tennessee and it’s slowly making a comeback!! There is nothing for the Youth in this area to do, so if I can get them hooked on skating instead of other horrible activities.
I just bought vintage roller skates for 8 bucks at the thrift store. I've never skate before, wish me luck!
That's awesome! How did it go?
Awesome
Have you been skating?
Kristen K Roller Hi. Goodness. Goodness
Good luck!!
So are you dancing while skating or are you skating while dancing?
Yes.

top 10 questions scientists can't answer
Anh Tao Ky
Either way it feel great to keep fit...
PenguinGamer Dab are you writing your comment before thinking or thinking before writing your comment 😉
Looks a bit more safe and fun than figure skating 🙈
Science with Katie yep. I could say the same, I did figure skating once. I still kinda do
just picture sharp blades instead of wheels on ice.
Big Steve ice skating but as more of a dance x)
Science with Katie no no it doesn’t
Depends on what your doing it can really hurt if you fall when doing a trick like a backflip or backhand spring
"A lot of times, I didn't feel like I fit in...but skating was a way for me to feel like I belonged somewhere." -- I love that!! ❤
Quest is so positive and supportive.
Dope video I’m from KC and we used to tear it up at Grandview skating rink in the 90’s. I hadn’t skates since 96 , last night at 42 I jumped backed on them skates … it’s up lol
As an artistic roller skater all of these different styles really amaze me

I'm IN LOVE❤ with everything about Rollerdancing, and the community of people that share the love of rollerskating, and Rollerdancing! :)
Excellent...thank you for the history. I'm 64 and this is what we did on Saturdays. You battled on skates. No fighting. It was a great time.
Man! You don't know how much I need this, because its been years since I skated comfortably. I like those skates that Quest has, I think I'll put my old skates to rest & get some new ones that look like soul dance skates. This video is definitely inspiring! Way to go.
I love how positive quest is.
You need that type of guidance especially in a coach and learning something new
Dustin off my skates post Xanadu times is the best thing that happened to me in the strangest times we're in! Love this vid! GOOD ON YA!

Shuffling back in the 80s at Skate Castle...was a wonderful time in my life.
MY secret most favorite hobby 😻 I look sooooo good skating 🤤 I love it! My baby girls are amazing skaters aswell 🤷🏾♀️❤️
I’m a figure skater, and I can roller skate, but I can’t do what I can do on ice in roller skates lol. Similar but still a little different.
We have people at the rink that can do both. There are differences as you are on quads instead of blades.
Get a pair of snow white skates.ur welcome
Have you tried blades instead of skates?
I'm new to the skating world and I'm here because I'm trying to figure out if I want to get into dance skating or roller derby. Honestly, this looks soooo fun. Great video!!!
Nailed it. Great work.
Omg he was amazing! And the "Byeeee" at the end was soo freaking cute!! 😂❤
This defintly takes me back to my teenage days. I couldn't do all of that but I could skate and dance a little bit .But more importantly I had fun .u did good .
Really fun! I liked the bit of history and cultural context and thought he did super well for only 4 days of practice.
I like how different areas call it different things. In Indianapolis we always called it boogie skating
You're the COOLEST. I've been teaching myself to skate for a couple months and I hope I can learn to roll bounce!!
AHHH!!! I was so happy to see this video!
How fun, Ryan! Good job. You killed it! And Side-note - you are such a handsome man and have the loveliest eyes. ❤️
Man, I hope he continues to skate with SWA and comes back in like a year with some bomb choreo, wouldn’t that be just amazing
It's the split for me!!!!!!
Hats off you! I appreciate this vblog. We need more videos like this of US building. Blessings to you all!
Love quests energy. He’s so chill
I love Quest’s attitude
He was 2 cute!
There is something "magical" about the skate community! That's awesome that he feels the positive energy associated with skating!
Hello from Iceland 🇮🇸❤️
it makes me happy that this was like historically thought about by him, and that t wasn’t just like an “i tried to jam skate” video. that’s what makes me very happy, considering i am a jam skater myself.
We live for these videos.
Watching from KC right now !
man I'm so happy to see this, I don't know if we have community in Seattle but I'm in the South often enough
I over love his voice it’s so clear
I support this and you guys wholeheartedly 🙏🏼 this is good content
I like the history and background. I would like to see more skate practice with voiceover rather that close up camera.
please try roller derby. its a lot of fun and think you'd be the right build for it, can has the amazing community with it. also your skating is really good and hope you find more time even just to do a casual skate.
Soooi amazing! He really killed that! Super cool bringing it back to the roots, feeling inspired by this
I stay in tampa and here it’s called “jamskating” and it took me years to learn how to . . So I’m jealous that he was able to learn in a week.
So excited that mainstream media is bringing more attention to the underground skate culture!
7:00, yussss!!! Well done, and you looked like you enjoyed yourself, great smile.
That was super AWESOME!!! 🎉🥳

Weebulls wobble but they don't fall down... Excellent 👍👍👍
Loved this!
I wish this were longer because I felt like it was hard to really see the progression. I enjoyed it a lot though!
I used to roller skate a lot but I don't have time to do that anymore.... I miss skating and that freaking school is running my social life! 🤦🏼♀️
absolutly loved watching this, Great routine...That split at the end...SWEET!
Keep on skating, you rock!

Hell yea I still go to winnwood occasionally
DoG Dragonslit SaMe
Just moved the right outside of KC and started trying to teach myself to skate this past weekend. Life’s funny.
Just moved here a week ago. He also went to the same college in Springfield as I did. Wild world
Fellow KC girl too!!! He brought back some really cool memories of spending weekends at the skating rink with my sister and friends as a teen.
Didn’t know that you grew up in KC. Gotta love our hometown❤️
What kind of skates did you get? Ridell? Chicago? I've got a pair of rock gt50s. And I do rythem and jam skating. Im looking to get a better pair with a heel and high tops for better control and stability. Do you recommend a certain brand? Ive got a budged of around 200. Thanks.
This is a month late lol, but I recently got the Moxi Beach Bunnies. They’re $149, and such nice quality. I have been skating in mine for days and I love them. I highly recommend.
This is 2months late. I have a pair of jungle moxis and they are 149. They are improved with adjustable toe stop and padding enforced ankles.
Don’t get Chicago skates, they aren’t even worth the cheap price.
I love to skate too and live in New York.We don’t have any great rinks out here for some reason. I’ve been to the outdoor rink in Brooklyn by the promenade but they changed it to some plastic circle flooring- horrible and not so smooth. 🤷🏽♀️
Dope, just started back 2 months ago, great inspiration!!! 😀
DAMN... BRINGS BACK MY CHILDHOOD!! I THINK IM PRETTY GOOD AT SKATING BUT I WANNA LEARN HOW TO DANCE ON SKATE ALSO!!!
