9:52. Rahdo says the first person to build a station gets the bonus but that's not strictly true. In order to get those bonuses you have to sacrifice one of your workers (engineer, cowboy, craftsman) to become the station master. So if Jen had gotten there in the first trail like Rahdo was trying to do, she wouldn't have been able to take that bonus because she hadn't hired any workers yet. And since you can't drop off multiple same colored discs at a location she would have been blocked off from ever getting that bonus had she built a station sans workers. Then Rahdo could have come along later and also upgraded the station and, if he wanted to, claim the bonus by making one of his workers a station master.
you don't for starting turn move to any building (and thus perhaps paying green hand costs if opponent builds a building). on starting turn you just start on that building. also first to a station only has option to get the bonus tile by paying a worker tile to replace it.
At 3:03 Rahdo says he can upgrade his speed by paying 3 bucks. That's wrong. When he clears that space he GAINS 3 dollar. Clearing can only be done by delivering cows to a city with black corners or upgrade a train station with black corners. So he has to deliver to or past Albuqueque (breeding value 10 or higher) but not to San Diego wich has no black corners, or upgrade the train station at the turnout space between 16 and 17 on the railroad track. Sometimes it's better (and allowed!) to clear the second space, leaving you still at a speed of three steps (in a 2 player game) but gaining you 5 victory points at game end.
On your first turn you don't move at all, you just choose the building where you want to start your game and perform the action of that building, like Richard explained in the video and like it's said on pag. 6 of the rules
@rahdo You do great reviews, walkthroughs, and final thoughts. Such a shame that this is another game that isn't available in New Zealand stores, most international stores are sold out, and Amazon won't ship internationally outside of the US :-( It's a real shame. Keep up your great work :-)
sadly, no time soon. the publisher never sent me a review copy, and i've always got so many games in the queue to review, that if i end up having to go out and buy it myself, it forget gets stuck at the low end of the priority list :(
Thanks for the quick reply! That is quite a pity, given that it is such a highly regarded/rated game. Maybe check the pulse of your viewers by adding it to the monthly poll?
Yep but it's important to add notations to the video to accomodate the mistakes in the explanation of the rules. Not everyone reads comments (but I do). :-)
I tried to play this today with my gaming group but failed. theres just so many symbols that arent explained orderly. I mean, I would have to sit down and study the manual for a long time while they could have made a page kind of like 7 wonders with everything explained. Now Im trying to figure it out to see if next time I can make it happen. Is there any resource online with a detailed explanation?
hmm, there's some very very weak overlaps between the two, but the core functionality of this is rondel, not worker placement, so i'd largely consider them very different beasts

True story! I am never sure if I should comment on spoken mistakes, or just on ones that affect gameplay. :-)
no harm in mentioning everything :)
Where in The rules does it say that in The first turn you can move how many tiles you want? I believe you can only move your limit
