for armbands, recently Ukrainians adopted green armbands, at least for the police force. The regulations about the shade simply state "green" or "yellow" or "blue" so no uniformity of shades is to be expected. What I know, as a person whose relative is in police force, the armband colours don't symbolise anything in particular, first they were yellow, then blue, and now green. My theory is that the forces on the frontlines just can't get their hands on new armbands in enough quantities to distribute them among all the troops so they just don't replace them. And, interesting fact, yellow armbands were very bright because they were made of duct tape, and the others are darker because they are just regular fabric

Training and being operational with you unit are two very different things. The OD uniforms aren’t usually an operational uniform. Think logically, why waste valuable camo, that’s scarce, on training troops when your front line troops need it more? The supply chain is much better now which is why you’d see even less of it today. That’s why OD is still issued to SOME units when the supply chain can’t afford to give out the full camo kit (I.e rear echelon units/volunteer units/troops in training that need a uniform but not an operational pattern).

It's interesting that countries have been spending so much time, money and effort into making camouflage patterns only for a war to come along and soldiers end up wearing bright coloured bands on their arms or helmets.

In Ukraine, the airsoft game is seriously developed, a lot of people play it. At games, when they are divided into two teams, the organizers try to separate the parties according to different camouflage patterns. But this very rarely works, so players from different sides are marked with tape of different colors in order to make it easier to identify. Usually it is a yellow, blue, or green ribbon. Only conditionally killed players mark themselves with a red or white rag, so these colors have never been used to identify sides. During the invasion, most airsoft players went into the military or territorial defense and brought their experience there. Yellow is usually a priority, and it was not chosen casually, because this color is the only one that will remain yellow even in the dark. But the color of the identification tapes can be suddenly changed in the event of a new campaign in the region (for example, an offensive), since the enemy, knowing the color of the identification, can mask the saboteurs.

It makes no sense, Red White Blue are the pan-Slavic colors, virtually every Slavic country uses them.
It’s not like Putin brought back the Communist flag like Lukashenko, where the Classicalist flag becomes an obvious symbol of opposition (despite Lukashenko’s regime not being Communist, and the fact those who use the Classicalist flag are probably much further left than Lukashenko, who only uses the Communist flag as a symbol of pro-Russian irredentism).
The problem in Russia is the regime in place (also a conservative Classicalist regime which, like Lukashenko’s, sometimes uses Communist symbols for irredentist purposes, but does use the Classicalist Russian flag with the pan-Slavic colors), the problem is not the flag.

Msot russian soldiers are from east of the urals anyway, the will hardly now about some ramdom political event in ukraine, some random history thing or how some thigns are called or done
There are a decent ammount of russian only ukrainians because if your entire place speaks russian...why learn ukrainian? And even if you learned ukranian in school, if you dont speak it every now and then its gone soon. Doesnt mean they arent ukrainians, it just means ukraine has two languages (which I think is a great thing to be honest)

Why? cuz its Ukraine and its official language. And it was damaged really hard during soviets, but it survived (unlike belarusian) and its getting stronger every year and more russian speaking ukrainian citizens starting to use ukrainian language.

The issue with that is that many eastern Ukrainians actually speak russian solemnly. Although ofcourse they know some Ukrainian, they largely speak Russian. I mean, this whole conflict is because of this reality as to if they should be closer with russian or ukraine. Thus, its not that easy and then there are russians that know very fluent ukrainian as they have ties there. So take it as you will.

Coming from a Ukrainian: you got the symbols wrong. It's +- certain here that the symbols identify the Russian Axis of attack:
V - forces that attacked Kyiv along the right bank if Dnipro river (you could have seen these forces fighting in Bucha, Irpin, Hostomel, etc.)
O - forces that attacked Kyiv through Sumy and Chernihiv
Z-in-square - these forces were attacking Kharkiv and along the north-eastern side of the Eastern Ukraine in general (Kupyansk, Izyum)
Z - these are forces that attacked Donbass directly and South of Ukraine from Crimea
Yes, sometimes these were spotted in wrong locations but high majority of photos of destroyed vehicles prove the logic behind those symbols that I listed above
Also X and A - almost never seen. But X being Chechens is proven to be wrong: Chechens near Kyiv were seen with V and Chechens near Mariupol - with Z.

I'm pretty sure that the mysterious V and Z letters of the two Russian invasion groups mean Volodymir Zelensky. It's odd they're not using cyrillic letters in any case. In any case the Z seems to indicate forces deployed in the South of Ukraine and the V forces deployed in the North (now pulled back for the sake of negotiations).

@@yandespar3490 - I can only imagine, LOL. But (Z)elensky is so ridiculous, making endless demands to "Europe" (I'm EU-ropean, so I find all that not just irking but the worst kind of ridiculously fascist, like banning Russian sports people and even the books of Dostoievsky, yet our corrupt leaders go with it and what not).
We Europeans are being destroyed by all those conspiring to make this war happen since years ago. The result will be a disaster, even Le Pen is capitalizing in being ambiguously pro-Russian (NATO is so hateful) and may win next sunday's election, what I do not celebrate, mind you, as it's yet another step in the European fascist madness and will lead to yet another war that destroys Europe even more.
In any case Zelensky making endless demands and NATO leaders mostly complying with all that Russophobic nonsense, of which banning the letter Z is just the most iconic point of the iceberg (athletes and artists are being bullied just for being Russian in what amounts to one of the worst pogroms I've seen in Europe ever, the self-destruction or European economy is probably even worse), is something I can't but laugh about.
But also fear a lot: we're being brainwashed into self-destruction at economic and freedom of speech levels. We are becoming Ukraine: the neonazi hell.
