      I'd actually have appreciated you talking more about "playing on the back of the beat" - I initially confused what you were saying with the swing timing the song has. What does it actually do? What other songs do it?

      @@Rhaethyn Playing on the back side is when you are ALMOST dragging but not quite. You can play in 3 places back side, on the beat and ahead. It just gives a nice feel that adds a different element of groove depending on what is going on in the song.

    This is why Tony and other actual musical professionals have the best music reactions on RUclips. Anyone can go "epic guitar" or "great drums and bass" but people like Tony really show how insanely composed these songs are.
    His knowledge with his reactions is equivalent to seeing a master painter break down a simple painting and really bring to life the artistry of the original painter.

    I really, really like the descending chug that happens at the end of the guitar solo. It’s so kinetic and violent sounding. It’s like the musical equivalent of slamming on the brakes in the car. It just sounds so forceful and heavy and it fits goldlewis and the way that he plays really well.

    I love Tony’s videos more than most reaction channels. Especially his 20+ minutes and GG videos. Because I like hearing is insight on this. Especially when he breaks things down, it shows his enjoyment of these songs. I know most people are here to see his general reaction but I enjoy all the musical knowledge, breakdowns, and reactions.

    12:00 I appreciate this rant SO MUCH, especially on this song and after your spot on comments about the off-set hi-hat on the main beat and riff during the instrumental parts, pre-verse. It's not super advanced by any means, but it gives the sound so much life! It goes without saying, being Goldlewis, but it's such a fat, heavy sound, it's incredible.

    I think the thing I appreciate about these Guilty Gear tracks the most is how they seem to bring me right up to the edge of my "comfort zone" in terms of music taste without going too far over into "too experimental". I've tried to get into progressive stuff in the past and found myself a little too ambivalent towards it after only a few minutes. With Guilty Gear, it may not be something I can listen to regularly (I'm mostly a normie lol, sorry), but I've yet to feel like any of the more experimental elements turn me off. It's a lot like changing how you prepare a favorite dish by varying up the seasoning or cooking technique, as opposed to trying a completely different dish. Gives it time to grow on me while still having just enough familiar elements that I can latch onto.
    I also appreciate Tony's tangent about how "same-y" pop music can feel at times. I genuinely don't give a shit about lyrics in pretty much anything I've listened to. To me, "vocals" have always just been another instrument, and I've had trouble getting into genres like rap/hip-hop as a result (aside from folks like Eminem that tend to have more going on than just mumbling and molesting the hi-hat patch on their synth). In that sense, Guilty Gear has been extremely refreshing.

In order to speak, you do not need to know how to read, however, if you want to be better at the language you speak, it will help to be able to read other ideas, write down your thought to try, and be able to go back and edit sentences you wrote. • @Rhaethyn
    @Rhaethyn 3 месяца назад +9

    Wow. The character explainers have let us all down.
    Dude's name is Goldlewis Dickenson, and he's the canonical US Secretary of Defense, with the nickname "the secretary of absolute defense". He is an avid Cryptid enthusiast, which is what is in the coffin. Don't call it an alien, that's ridiculous.
    Anyways, as you can see, he's just a MASSIVE dude who swings around a coffin on a chain, which contains the literal area 51 alien. He, alone, is as strong as the entire secret service combined. He's shown to catch an RPG mid-flight and toss it back at the enemies.
    He's actually just a really cool dude, and a good father figure / mentor to bridget, who (in the relevant parts of the story) is struggling to come to terms with her gender identity.

    • @Rhaethyn
      @Rhaethyn 3 месяца назад +2

      On a meta level, he's cool because he's one of the only fat/stocky fighting game characters who is portrayed neither as a joke nor with a design /personality that revolves around being fat. (Well, mostly. He definitely needs to be big to make swinging the coffin around believable.)

    • @Rhaethyn
      @Rhaethyn 3 месяца назад +2

      As far as gameplay goes, he's got 8 moves that swing the coffin, and they all correspond to the input motion, which feels super intuitive. (Ex the move that swings the coffin from above his head down to the floor, like if you were chopping wood, is done by pressing [up-forward-down-attack]. All of these moves are known as "behemoth typhoons", which has spawned a memetic phrase.
      He does high damage, but his main strong point is his comparatively extremely high damage dealt when the opponent is blocking. Because yeah, YOU try and block a goddamn armored coffin being swung at you and tell me you're fine afterwards.
      Finally, I NEED to draw attention to how freaking sick the names of his supers are - the sky laser is called "Burn it Down", and his huge coffin uppercut is called "Down With the System". Which are both rad.

    • @Adu767
      @Adu767 9 дней назад

      @@Rhaethyn Being big is a good choice for his visual design and playstyle, but he doesn't NEED to be big in order to swing the coffin around. After all, you have a 110lb little pirate girl swinging around a 3,000lb boat anchor like a wiffle-ball bat, so clearly size is not a linear indicator of strength in GG.
