KD Lang and the Reclines were the best fun and breath of fresh air at many U of C cabarets in the early 80’s. So much fun, so much musical energy, so much talent. She was the very best part of the 88 winter Olympic closing ceremony and got that party started. Love all her music, respect all the important things she stood up for back when it was riskier to be outspoken. And what an angelic voice.
I hadn't heard k.d. in a long time, and for some reason, the unpredictable algorithm brought me an old clip of Johnny Carson yesterday and he was introducing kd Lang and the Reclines. She was so young, wearing this crazy country skirt and blouse, and she just made my heart soar. Now the algorithm is blessing me every day it seems. What a stunning performance! It’s as though light, love and the joy of singing this song just shine from inside her. Thanks so much for posting this video for us ❤
I was in Northern Ontario 30 some years ago visiting my then boyfriends family. The romance died but the feeling I came home with about Northern Ontario has stayed with me since. When I hear this song it brings it all back and I understand the power of the words and melody..

After almost three miserable years in Quebec I found this gem, although I was completely blown away by that evening's Hallelujah. I was already a fan of k.d. but since then a passionate one. Always keep coming back to her. One feels rather blessed ever having fallen for her voice.

Saw her perform in Providence, RI several years ago and her performance throughout was stellar ! Only problem was that when she got to “ Cryin’ “ there literally wasn’t a dry eye in the house. This version of Neil’s classic is taken to the stratosphere.
I wonder if Neil Young got goosebumps when he watched this brilliant performance. If she tried for a lifetime, there is no way she could ever improve upon the performances she gave that night.

I don't say this lightly, but I truly believe that K.D. Lang is the next link in the chain of the greatest singers of the 20th century. She is carrying on the tradition of total credibility when she sings every song and the ability to transcend musical genres that was established and moved forward by singers like Patsy Cline, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and George Jones. Lang has that natural ability (it cannot be learned or taught) to make you believe every word and touch your soul with the musicality of how she sings the lyrics. She was gifted not only with an amazing voice, but also with the ability to use it to its maximum effectiveness, and that is very, very rare. In short, K.D. Lang could start on page 1 of the phone book and sing every name with such feeling it would move me; AND she would have me believing she personally knew every person whose name she sang.

I've said this before and it applies so much to KD Lang. To entertain people with music is one thing. To touch the emotions of people by music takes it to an entirely different level. But K.D's version brought the song home for me. Suddenly it brought me , in my mind, to a town in North Ontario which I spent my 20's in. And yes, she reminded me that all my changes were there. Wow. K.D. Something about that voice bring Neil's words straight through to my heart.
