    Solid advice Ben! I always remind myself to run the mile I'm in. Fueling and pacing checkins are also important in shorter races. I'm amazed at your ability to cover 100 miles! Keep pushing my friend!

    It's an incredible distance for a human being, I think I it's ok to feel negative in places during such an arduous journey. It's admirable how you make yourself stay positive by celebrating every achievement.

    • @timeonfeet
      @timeonfeet  Год назад +1

      Definitely, it's going to happen that we don't feel great all of the time when taking on a bit challenge. Nothing wrong with that, it only becomes a problem when it stops us achieving what we want to!

    Couldn’t have come at a better time Ben, thanks for this 🙌 some great ideas mate. A 100 miler is definitely a mental game, almost more than a physical one. Key ideas for me are to keep eating (food is mood!) and try not to succumb to “imposter” syndrome, when people fly past you in the first quarter of the race. Inevitably theyll be walking later because they’ve gone off too quickly 👍 all the best to you and Carla

    Wow, what an incredible journey you've been through, Ben! Running 100 miles is no small feat, and I'm amazed by your mental strategies. Breaking up the distance into smaller checkpoints is such a clever approach to keep yourself going. And focusing on the positives, like those breathtaking views and milestone moments, must have given you a real boost when things got tough. Thank you for sharing these valuable strategies. Keep running strong and spreading that positive energy! 🏃‍♂

    Very interesting analysis. What was striking to us was how many of those points are applicable to road running, even over the 5k distance.
    Focusing on the moment. Realising bad patches are temporary. Celebrating the gains en route.
    I guess it's the length of time and frequency you have to employ the mental strategies where one of the points of difference lies.

    • @timeonfeet
      @timeonfeet  Год назад +1

      Definitely, I think a lot of these can be applied to shorter distances and road races just like you say on a more mirco scale. In terms of breaking up the distance for 100 I was thinking about the next checkpoint in say 7 miles time whereas for shorter distance it might be the whole 'run the mile you're in'.

    Interesting Ben, and I'm sure that experience is something that comes back into mind regularly for you!!! I forgot to mention to you... maybe you've heard of the network of major hiking routes that criss-cross France called the Grandes Randonées, with GR + a number! The GR21, also called the Littoral de Normandie or sometimes the customs trail, follows the coast of Normandie and was voted France's favourite GR trail in 2020. I've started running certain sections with the goal of one day completing the entire coast, little by little as it's a bit far from where I live. Just thought I'd mention it in case you hadn't heard of it already... it's also probably pretty full of hikers this time of year too as I did some sections in winter (near Fécamp and also near Jobourg and Granville) and there were surprisingly a lot of hikers even then!! Le Tréport is actually the start of the first section going west, and the most popular section is from Dieppe to Fécamp. Enjoy the rest of your stay, profitez bien vous deux!! Salut!!!🙋🏻‍♀

    • @timeonfeet
      @timeonfeet  Год назад +1

      This is a great insight Bev, thanks for sharing. Carla and I have been talking about doing more of the French coast path but from what I can see you can't follow it continuously in Normandie, is that right? We could see a long stretch from Le Tréport to the top of Normandie but couldn't see a continuous route around Dieppe. Where in France are you based? We definitely want to explore more trails in France!

      @@timeonfeet OH me I live just outside of Paris, between Paris and Chartres. This summer I've been heading down to Burgundy a lot, running the Voies Vertes, greenway cycle paths that are totally separate from the roads ... tomorrow I'm heading off to run the Canal de Bourgogne, so see how far I get!!!

    • @bev9708
      @bev9708 Год назад +1

      @@timeonfeet Oh yes yes it's a continuous trail all the way to Le Havre from Le Tréport, it certainly goes through Dieppe, and on along the entire Normandy coast, then continuing on the the Chemin des Douaniers which follows the entire coast of Brittany (I've also run 4 sections of that one too and will do it all one day). I tried to send you the link to an interactive map but the message will not go. On the gr-infos website , I've tried heaps of ideas but this message won't go🤷🏻‍♀
