Single use toothbrush. That’s a good idea. I might try that on algae that started growing on my once beautiful Amazon swords.

Agreed never fun. My current issues is pest snails 🐌 holy fucking crap the never ending eggs. Would kulhi loaches be the best way to ride my tank of them? It's a bare bottom no substrate 120 gallon 4x2x2 and a 75 gallon. Decent phantom pleco collection 👌

I don’t really understand the hate freshwater snails get, especially as a saltwater hobbyist. A free, self-replicating clean-up crew that helps make the nutrients within algae and biofilms accessible to other organisms like detritivores sounds like a win to me. Yes, they may be prolific, but that's just them adjusting their population to make use of available resources, as you would expect to see in the wild. I think they're cute too.
If you are so adamant about eliminating your snails, I'm not sure if I am the best resource for knowledge because during the limited number of times I have had freshwater snails pop up in my freshwater tanks and ecospheres, I just let them do their thing uninterrupted. I remember that Foo the Flowerhorn tried and failed with snail traps, yoyo loaches (Botia almorhae), and various chemical treatments. The solution that worked for them was a combination of Flubendazole and a tank teardown. I also remember that assassin snails (Anentome helena) are commonly used because they prey on other snails, but they apparently need substrate to burrow in (I wonder if placing a few plastic containers with substrate in your tank would do the trick). You could also reduce the amount you feed. Kuhli loaches (Pangio kuhlii) will eat snails, but are not effective at decimating them.

I don't enjoy the hundreds and hundreds of snail eggs. In every pleco cave, wood structure and air stones. I always remove everything scrub clean and even let some stuff dry for days outside. I have no substrate but still vacuum it to try and remove bigger numbers of snails
