Thank you for the advice. I went through a long and terrible bout of depression and neglected my tank because of it. I was so ashamed that I let my fish suffer, which further worsened my state of mind. It got so bad that I didn't know where to even start in getting it back to normal again. This helped.
I'm glad it helped you at the time. It's really easy to go through hard times in life and those things can really impact our motivation. I hope you are doing better and your tank is as well!
This video was honestly really satisfying to watch lol. Seeing a disgusting tank turn into something beautiful is amazing! Seeing the algae get removed was soooooo satisfying!
Wouldn't it be easier to just drain the tank and take it to the bathroom and do a 100% cleaning? Doesn't look like it should be a problem with that little gravel and only live rocks. Although it's a nice video describing the whole process, could be useful for people with large tanks.
This was for demonstration purposes. A real tank has fish in it. I did this once and when I put the fish back shock killed them. Fish are delicate and then there is the bacteria in the tank as well. My favorite tool is a homemade gravel vac using a power head. You can run the water through filter floss and back into the tank. This way you can vacuum the gravel for as long as you need.
Thanks for this question! We neglected a big tank for years (!), and we have a tetra that's probably immortal. We don't have a filter in the tank, only oxygen and snails that multiply by the hour. I attempted to clean the tank a few months ago and got quite far. But it turns back quickly because of the built-up algae and dirt. (We don't want more fish and just thought we'd leave the tank as it was after all the other fish passed away more than two years ago, thinking that this poor tetra didn't have long either. Boy, we were wrong. Now I don't even know what to do anymore. The tank is disgusting, and the fish is going to live forever 😅)
Long story short… I did cleaned it… now the cichlid looks like dying 😮 He was a thriving fish in a filthy tank. I don’t know if doing water changes will take care of it. But we did cleaned it like 3 weeks ago, changed the filter pad to a new one. Algae is coming back again. 😢 Will this be a never ending story? I will do a water change tomorrow to see if the fish health improves as it it looking for oxygen on the water up top. I am giving up with this one. He is turning purplish … nitrates seem high … don’t know how, with the big water changes it took while cleaning it.
Thanks very much for the great video.:) Do I need to have that small light of the fish tank shot during the blackout as well or it’s only to avoid the sunlight going in for 72 hours? Sorry I’m an absolute beginner!Lol
i just did the last clean of my tank i over winter my koi inside and i did a 3/4 water clean and before then the tank was fine after there was masses of brown sludge and the tank went green
My beta fish’s are shredded. What am I doing wrong? He’s also very still at the bottom of the tank and I don’t see him eat much. Is he circling the drain? Help!
I have a 20 gallon waterfall tank. I filled it up with gravel, water, and decorations. I didn’t get any fish because I just like the way the tank look and then my filter stopped working and my water was stagnant for months. Now the water is have evaporated, dark and murky. I added more water to it like an idiot and now I just have clean water sitting on top of dirty water. I have no idea what to do
Try to have a gallon per inch of a full grown fish. I have a ten gallon tank, so i only have 6 guppies that will only get to be an inch long. That way they have four more gallons of space to avoid crowding and stress
Once again I agree with Kristin. If I'm being honest, the biggest difficulties I've ever had when it comes to aquarium is when I tried to push the limit on adding fish. Too many fish will lead to stress and disease. Not fun.
Wow, thisbis helpful, i moved into my in laws house to fins two clown fish living in actual fucking filth. Aparently theyve been living in the tank no cleaning at least six months. Me and my husband are going to try our best to save these lik guys
Or if you have a pressure washer take tank outside and use a spray don’t use a concentrated beam on water and be careful of the glass outside and wash the decorations with the pressure washer.
I know! I'll have to post something on my Instagram maybe. My schedule has been super packed lately and I thought I got a good final clip, but I can't find it :(
@@mattdesautels2992 I'm not sure at the moment. I'm trying to consolidate tanks to make things more manageable. Water evaporates from the tank so quickly its quite a bear to keep up with. It's either that or a new 10g updated budget build...
So what do I A:do with my fish B: I have a shit load of sludge everywhere from the filter messing up after being super dirty and having to clean it and changing my filters also C: it's got stuff all over the glass. You may be right, and I might agree if keeping aquariums was my primary hobby. However, it's one of many things I enjoy doing and sometimes my tanks get away from me. I think that happens to a lot of folks in the hobby.

You're not supposed to wash the gravel or the decorations with tap water because it countains chlorine which will eventually kill the benefficial bacteria that has grown on the surface of the gravel or whatever you do have in your tank.No hate😀😀😀

So useful!! I just found a 30 gallon tank in a McDonald's parking lot and I want to use it for my guppys
Right? I just took my neighbor's old 40-50 gallon(they were throwing it away) and I want it for my catfish :)

The goal is to not kill the good bacteria

So satisfying, do more dirty tanks video
I have algae growing on one of my live plants.
If you have some algae problems I suggest some snails and if they don’t work try to get some algae control
I lightly brush it with a clean toothbrush, or you can use a gentle soft sponge thats designated for the aquarium
These two are right, thank you guys!
AMAZING VIDEO! YOU'RE HILARIOUS
So I won’t get sick or anything by touching my dirty tank water? I noticed you are doing this bare handed
I mean, I would wash your hands after you are done, but otherwise I wouldn't be too concerned...all of the growth is typically algae.
How do I clean my dwarf frogs tank?? These are my 1st frogs and I don’t wanna kill em or suck something up that’s not meant to be etc..

Nice job! 👌
@3:18 I wanna see you do a 50g water change on this tank 😂😂😂
How would you do this with a 55 gallon on the floor?
That's tough. You can still start a siphon for the big stuff. Run a return pump to drain out additional water.

Just wondering could u clean a real bad tank with a pressure washer
I mean, sure, if you are completely starting over.
