      I believe the rotors are bigger on the back because the wheels are also one inch bigger than the front

    Honestly, the non Z51 is many more times capable then 98% of people will ever need. It's perfect out of the box 🤔

      Exactly and the ever confusing PTM settings make it hard to engage regularly. The e-diff sometimes likes to interfere with cornering which some drivers don’t appreciate.

    Best breakdown i have seen on the delta between base and Z51
    I bought a base model and I appreciate the softer suspension and AS
    Tires. Plus i like the high wing better than the Z51 wing. Add the ground effects and get rockers and splitter.

    I have the z51 on my c5 and I never felt the need it helped me. I never tracked the car tho. And I would think the base C8 would be more than enough for 90% of weekend track guys. And the other 10% probably would want more performance than the z51 package offers. That's why you see the factory z51 parts for sale.

    The rotors are bigger in the back because of rotation mass and weight of the motor and transmission. You need more stopping power where motor is located

      However the car is set up with more front brake bias through the master and you end up using up probably two sets of front brake pads for every one set of rears...

    A few months back I did the Ron Fellows Level 2 school at Spring Mountain, we were running the Charleston Peak short course and the front brake rotors were getting toasted--the car would still slow OK but the front brake pulsations (from the warped rotors) was just insane. For the street Z51 is overkill but for the track they need way bigger rotors in front.

      Agree lots of stuff on the Z51 is not up to track duty, I ended up replacing the shocks with a nice set of JRI double adjustable and brakes with AP Racing and then wider lighter wheels with sticky tires. Car is pretty good out of the box but not optimized for serious track use.

    Chevy fits the Z51 with a shorter (numerically higher) final-drive ratio to improve acceleration. Base C8s get a 4.89:1 final-drive ratio, whereas Z51s are fitted with a 5.17:1

    FYI, swapping to Z51 calipers is complex. I messed up one of my Z51 piston boots changing brake pads. B/c they are glued to the pistons. Bleeding brakes on a C8 is no simple task. I pressure bled mine, but the ABS valving under the master cylinder will hold air in the system. Need the GM software to command the ABS open while pressure bleeding. My dealer helped me out but the brake computer detects and doesn't like air.

    My C6 and C7 were Z51s. With the C8, I went non, and upgraded the exhaust. Most of your gains on a track come from the tires alone…and, let’s be honest; how many actually track cars?? The Z51 exhaust is barely louder. People that like exhaust sounds will end up spending $ on an aftermarket anyway. To me the real debate, as long as you get an 2LT, is HTC vs Coupe. THAT is a BIG difference. We get too much into the weeds about stuff that doesn’t matter. You really think GM’s giving you a deal with the Z51? Pretty sure they’re here to make $.

    I had 2 non z51 c7, now have z51 C8. I have added z51 sways and cooling ducts for c7, and it was ok for me. But C8 z51 is great out of the box!!!

    Thanks for the video! Currently going back and forth on Z or non Z for my order. Any regrets not getting the z51? Thanks

      Zero regrets even after driving my buddies Z51. The only thing you can't really retrofit to be just like a Z51 is the trans cooler. But I never track it & will never notice it. They both drive identical, however on stressful track driving the Z51 will stop better and stay cooler.

    Have you looked into retrofitting the heads up display to a 1LT?

    The weight is in the back!? So the back rotor is bigger?🤯

    The biggest difference is the ride quality is 10x better on the non z51. I drove both and you can’t tell them apart otherwise. All seasons can still pull 1.2G laterally.

    I have a non Z51 and my buddies all have Z51's. I have drove both cars and actually I can't tell the difference. I know what the Z51 has; but I don't need it.

    • @rondail5675
      @rondail5675 7 месяцев назад +1

      They will never leave you behind unless extended track racing. Tracking needs the cooling and brakes.
      I am so happy to have the Non-Z51. Better ride, cheaper, all season tires, and I don't want the E-Diff.

    Can u swap exhaust from base non z51 to a z51 exhaust… I’m trying to do that and wondering if it’s just a quik bolt on exchange?

    • @VetOnVettes
      @VetOnVettes  5 месяцев назад +1

      You can. However, you won't have the electronic control to open the valves. I believe when you pull the actuators off, the spring defaults to open. But if it does not you will have to find a way to keep the valves open I.E. a little tack weld on the top spring actuator. But to answer your question it will bolt right up.
