I always had a fear of swimming. I’m now learning how to swim. To anyone else with this fear. The only way you will learn how to swim is to learn not to panic when the water takes you. Go with the flow. The moment you panic - you drown. Trust me when I say your body knows how to swim and your instincts will kick in when you RELAX. It’s all in your head. You can overcome this fear. And when you do - you will love the water! I promise!!
I have summer gym tomorrow and the swim teacher always makes me go to the deep end even though I tell her I can barely swim and if she tells me to go off the diving board I'm pulling a fucking Luke Skywalker and turning around and grabbing the board I aint drowning today no sir.
+Mario Quesada i hate the deep end and we had a sub so they moved me up to the deep end they said swim in the middle of the deep end and i almost drowned she didnt give a sht
That pool is a little too deep for my liking. I really want to learn how to swim, but unless I get over my fear of drowning, I will never end up in one. Just watching this video caused me some anxiety.
I had the worse fear of deep water more than anyone, and I taught myself how to swim. You can do it. Swimming in a pool, even in the deepest part, is surprising easy. It's the stroke techniques that are hard to master, and even when you don't master those, you will still move in the water and stay afloat. If you retain any fear and keep panicking, you will drown. Don't panic!!! That can't be stated enough. However, the movement he's doing at 3:06 touching his feet to the bottom is really hard to do because the water will keep bouncing you to the top. It is hard to top the bottom. The best thing is to take a swimming class at your local community college. That's a great start. Hold on to the ledge first and you will be swimming in no time. Just float and start kicking and you have it. Now ocean swimming is a different beast, and you shouldn't swim in it unless you have years worth of pool experience first. Even great swimmers drown in the ocean.
Because of how I was taught, I find swimming underwater a lot easier than swimming on the surface of it. Which I guess gives me a slight advantage if I sink. But I'd prefer not to sink in the first place. I can do front crawl but haven't mastered the breathing. (But now I think of it front crawl is more of a competitive style of swimming that is unnecessary) I want to learn how to tread water and breast-stroke. I think if I know how to do those well I'll be a lot more confident in and around water.
+sean tyler just jump into the deep end I jumped into a 25 feet water at the lake I thought I was going to drown but I was just like "oh this is easy" and my friends just laughed at me for being scared trust me bro there's nothing to be scared of :)
eLasVegas Lets see. Hmmm. It is not a myth. It's a fact. If ur in a Life or Death situation. You'd learn how to SURVIVE right then and there to stay alive! I don't have to be a swimmer to know. My teacher was a swimmer, my girlfriend is. Even they said the same.
very nice dude. Kudos for going thru all the trouble to make it for people like me. I am definitely gonna try this. One question though- When we exhale we usually tend to go down but if you have good amount of air in your lungs then that keeps you floating so according to you if I exhale while already in the water would that not make me go down further in the water??? :(
I took my third swimming lesson today. Yesterday I drowned and the instructor got me out. Today she was just chatting with someone when I drifted far and drowned. a near by woman got me out. Now I'm just scared 😦I felt like I hated swimming suddenly.
i dont know how to swim, i only knew how to swim underwater and float on my back and just recently i started learning treading on my own, but this is what i always do when i start since im a slow started it takes me long to get used to water... so this is what i do some drowning simulation to get rid of the fear of water then start letting go of the edge slowly but still wont go far except if i had someone who knows how to swim with me so i rest assured that i'd be rescued if i messed up x'D
So guys, yesterday was my first time I went for swimming. And the only thing my coach first taught me to learn this. And I did this a few times and my highest was 30 seconds in underwater without breath.
Im glad i found this bc personally i know how to swim but i dont know how to float and i almost drowned yesterday..only reason i didnt die was bc i did the jump technique. The water was super deep and i thought i cud make it back to land but i cudnt see anywhere so luckly i knew about the jump but now i know how to float which is good
swaggman wilson me toooooo! I know how to swim but can't balance my self and almost drowned because I cannon balled into the 8ft. Couldn't get my head above water and breath, I honestly thought I as gonna die
I was not knowing how to swim before i was barely going to deep i was only in shaklow and i didnt even know how to float or swim normally so I practiced a lot and now i can go deep underwater and a pro swimmer so remember guys the key is yo practice...😁👍🏻
I've watched this video, back some months ago. And I decided to watch it again.. because I fear of ever drowning again... I was in Rockford, Illinois. last year July, 2014 for the weekend of the 4th of july I went to magic waters. And there were 3 slides. So I went on the left side. And as I was about to Exit u had to fall in the pool. And I kept telling myself "I'm not ready... I'm not ready..." and I fell in... and I didn't touch the ground, so My eyes were closed. I never had a swimming lessons in my life so... I always told ppl I knew how to swim.. but I was unsure of myself after this had happened. I literally thought I was gonna lose my life, I was so scared afterwards. I Saw 2 lifeguards as I was jumping and grasping for air... and they were just standing there like they didn't see me. After, I finally found the wall to the ladder and .. then the 2 lifeguards had the nerve to tell me my Bikini was "coming a loose". I wanted to curse them out so bad.. I had to sit on the bench from gracefully saving my own life, and I was Literally choking and coughing on clorine. Worst summer at waterpark ever..
When I first entered a deep pool I almost shat my pants...I was like 5 back then and it was scary, but somehow I knew how not to sink like a rock and I managed to stay on top of the water...I still hate deep water, but I love it at the same time, I mean when you cannot touch the floor of the pool without sinking is so cool. Our gym has a 150cm deep pool only and since I'm 185cm it's horrible for me, the closest pool where I can't touch the floor without going underwater is in the next town, 15km from here...
I remember when my Cousins and me were swimming in a pool, I didn't kno how to swim tht time lol, but I saw my older cousin jump in the 5 feet water thing and started to go swim, but my dumb 7 years old self jump in thinking I could swim to, stand at the bottom of the water, lol lucky my cousin save me tho.
Same thing happened to me lmao he jumped in and floated back up and I jumped in right after and I sank down helplessly and he reached down and pulled me up by my arm haha
My uncle used to teach me how to swim by throwing my toys in a pools deep end when I was like 3. Used to be so scared of anything deep but know I feel more safe in water than on land
He's creating the conditions he would feel if was actually drowning in open water. The point isn't learning to swim, its to learning to overcome the panic that comes with drowning.
Last time I went into 7ft and sank and I didn't know how to swim so I walked underwater back to 5 ft

Could you do a tutorial on how to open a door? I'm in a room and i have NO idea how to get out.
Wtf
See HowToBasic's channel, watch his very old videos.
Kick it with full force

I´m dealing with fear to the deep water and this video really helps. Thank you so much for sharing it!
That’s exactly what I was thinking right before your video ended! You’re literally teaching me how to save my own life. THANK YOU!!! 💙
If I don't have goggles even in a pool I just can't swim, I feel better being able to see where I'm swimming.
Then open your eyes underwater.

I think if ur in a "life or death" situation. You'd learn how to swim right then and there to survive.
Savage
+UNKNOWN WORLD What do you really look like?
because drowning is a myth
That is a myth. What will happen is the person will learn
"how to drown, and learn very quickly." It appears you are not a swimmer.

I like the word survive, makes it so dramatic while not being too far from the truth.
I took my third swimming lesson today. Yesterday I drowned and the instructor got me out. Today she was just chatting with someone when I drifted far and drowned. a near by woman got me out. Now I'm just scared 😦I felt like I hated swimming suddenly.
You drowned twice? Wow!
I did. But I chaned my instructor. I will soon have a fresh start :)
I will make sure to master this video so the drowing won't happen again.
"Inhale above the water" thanks for the advise
Thank you for the kind advice,my son has liked it and needs this advice for level 8 thank you👍👍👍
WTF? If you can stay near and grab on to the edge, you're not in need of surviving.
MrSidney9 I was wondering the same. Doesn't make any sense if they are at or with arm's reach of the edge.
What if you accidentally let go? Or somebody pushes you off.

How do u swim back up to the water if u jump into deep water?
By exhaling and inhaling we can hold breath longer???

how you do with your hand, its kinda pull or what?

How do you swim back to the top?
that's very useful

thanks bro
idk how I learned how to swim but deep pools always scared me even tho I can swim they scare me bc they remind me of the deep ocean D:
Very nice.
thankyou so much
nice tip bro...
im 17 learned how to float at 16 and somewhat how to kick . i want to do surfing when i get older in deep and shallow water .
Awesome vid. However, I sink when treading water. How should I breathe when doing this?
yeah u can release air smoothly so that u can stay long under water
Ah, ok. Will try
how tall are you? and how deep was that side of the pool?
Thank you so much this really helped me all though this video is 9 years ago thanks swin2fast.
He's creating the conditions he would feel if was actually drowning in open water. The point isn't learning to swim, its to learning to overcome the panic that comes with drowning.

I reckon that's right. I'm working on that at the age of 64yo. Wish my parents had bothered to help me in the 1960's.
It’s the panic that makes you drown. When you panic you forget how to swim and you just try to thrash and grab your way upwards which doesn’t work.
