    Hi, very informative. I tend to adjust my chain to within half a turn and then push the wheel upto the adjuster, then do the final turns. I find that it pulls the wheel uniformly and doesn't leave a small gap, hence straight.

    You can easily pull that sprocket out of the hub.

    Quickest way to fuck the seals in your wheel is to grease the spacers! the grease gives the dirt something to stick too and unless it's "rubber" grease it will perish the rubber over time...

    Have you never hurd of a torque wrench?. Place a bit of wood under the wheel before taking out spindle, & adjust chain on side stand (doing on the centre stand doesn't allow for the suspension travel. Your chain was well to tight.

    It amazes me how manufacturers put little thought into the fact that tires need changing and punctures occur these days. I have a couple of 70's era Suzuki's and on those the wheel can come out leaving the sprocket and chain in place, which is much nicer and cleaner should you be on the side of the road. Most bikes don't seem to even have a center stand these days, I think in the days when more motorcycles were everyday transport such considerations were given more priority than in today's predominantly leisure use market. This video also reminds me why with the new motorcycles I have tubeless tires are a big plus IME.

    • @WulfOnTheRun
      @WulfOnTheRun  5 лет назад +1

      Your right everything seems to be made basic and thats an extra. There way of making more money.
      Tubless yes on a road bike.
      But if you dent a rim on an adv bike you wont get a seal with tubeless.
      Thanks for your comments.
      Happy riding.👍👍

      @@WulfOnTheRun Yes tubes definitely still have a place for serious off road.

  • @yessure5291
    @yessure5291 6 лет назад +13

    At 16:10 I blow up the tube to maybe 10 pounds so it is perfectly formed inside the tire and has no kinks then let the air out to almost zero again.
    While the tire is off give each spoke a ping with a screwdriver to see if you have any lose spokes.
    23:44 you should use a proper torque wrench and tighten to the factory spec.

    I noticed you adjusted the chain on the centre stand..... was it too tight when on the side stand?
    I believe the 30mm slack is measured when on the side stand and unladen. Good tutorial.

    • @WulfOnTheRun
      @WulfOnTheRun  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Buddy, yes side stand is advised, but whilst on the centre stand you can afford to go slightly tighter as when you put on load it will go a bit loser, not much in it though, depends on the length and centring of the swing arm,,, So i believe,,? Cheers

    • @TheFlemmo123
      @TheFlemmo123 3 года назад +3

      Its the other way around, the chain tensions more after leaving the centerstand, with zero load and the correct tension for sidestand the chain will get way too tight..

    On most good tires there is a red or yellow dot that is placed on the lightest part of the tire so it can be lined up with the valve stem . In the video it doesn't look like you lined up the dot to the stem so that tire would be easy to balance . Is there a dot on the gps back or front tire ?

    I'm thinking of getting the tractionator GPS.
    My bike is lowered and I just don't want the seat height to go up.
    Do you recall if the GPS was any taller than the tire removed, not considering wear on the old tire?

    Hey Man, do yourself a favour and get yourself a motion pro bead buddy II - it acts like a 3rd set of hands for when you haven't got Jimmy around
    (Link : www.motionpro.com/product/08-0471)
    PS - your standard tubes are absolutely fine if you don't go off road and run lower pressures. Its when you go off road and reduce the tire pressure is when Heavy Duty tubes come in handy as they are much thicker and stiffer inside the tire .., and because of that they are more resistant to tube 'pinch flats' when riding with the reduced tire pressure .
    (which lowering the tire pressure gives the bike much better traction for riding in off road conditions).
    HD tubes are not any more resistant to a nail puncture though than what standard tubes are , they're only better for resistance in pinch flat when running low tire pressures - thats all ;)

    I'd NEVER use that much soap mounting tires. A little in a bottle of spray water is all that's needed. Also WAY too much grease on spacers, will attract lots of dirt as it gets pushed to the outside when pushing into the seal.

      Always best to familiarise yourself with the routine if going remote, can't be over-prepared. There are actually better levers available which interlock and work in a scissor manner to unlock the bead, called "Motion-Pro Bead Pro" levers (part #08-0519) and "Bikeservice make a set of three rim protectors (#BS9952) which work well too. Sorry but the hammer is too risky. Less skin off the knuckles if you remove the cush-drive sprocket housing.

      In field conditions it will be difficult enough to remove the camera in order to repair it.

      I've never found a shop that doesn't need me to leave it there for hours, so I find doing anything myself is quicker, often than the travel time alone. And that's before the shop screws something up and you have more time wasted and frustration.

    I have a hard time take anyone who wears flip flops while working on anything serious.
