Always a gamble when buying from eBay craigslist and especially factbook. Luckily it was only a golden screwdriver job that was easily retuned. Nice radio only thing it needs is a switch too turn off the amp when it's not needed. I like the echo nice touch great video have a wonderful day.
Nice job there Matt. I've always liked the ranger RCI 29xx radios I have a few myself. They have worked fault less since I've had them. And the one you have done will probably be the same if looked after and well .. take care my friend. 73s.
We’re bringing it back (cb radio). Myself along w/4 friends have decided to all go back to 1990 when we were running Galaxy Pluto’s & Jupiter’s and Superstar 3300 & Connex setups. Wow a lot has changed. I’m looking for a little guidance before I buy my next mobile rig. I’m looking to shoot skid as well as local talk. Should I get a good “driving radio” & an amp? Should I get one of these 400w radios instead? Any help is Greatly appreciated! Thanks
What does the waveform look like at every frequency within the audio spectrum? Simply looking at 1000 Hertz is completely useless if it's distorted at 900 hertz
Scot, worry about your buddy Sherman, quit trying to start crap. This man has done 3 Galaxy radios for me and they came out top notch. Go back to the desert with your good buddy in his landscape trailer 😘😘.
He got lucky !! Nice work . Sounds beautiful over the monitor radio and talkback . Are those any better on SSB as far as drifting compared to the Galaxy 98VHP I have ?
I've always been curious what kind of transistors comes in these things? I've seen the OEM one come blacked out ⚫ and know of people changing out the Factory ones for toshiba's. Some Also may come with mosfet I'm not sure? Also curious on your thoughts of mosfet compared to pill transistors.
This one had "blank" pill style transistors. No branding on them. As for mosfet vs pills..the mosfets are not rf transistors so more harmonics and more work to get them to run properly. Pills win every time because they are designed to run in a radio. Only downside is the cost. You get what ya pay for though. 👋
That echo board was awesome!!!! Dang it!!! That’s a great CB.
Nice Radio when working correctly!! Some of those Craigslist radios you just never know !!
Thanks Matt! My radio looks and sounds great!
Appreciate ya very much for the continued support..73 👋
The Rci radios 2950s and 2970s blow the Galaxy radios away. Stable on frequency, AM, sideband. Plus they have a very good modulation pattern.

We decided against the amp switch. Going to run the radio the way it was designed i.e. as a "big radio"..🙂👍
Great work shop.

Turned out great! 👍🏻
Love the RCI 2970's...I miss mine. I wouldn't mind getting another one, but maybe get an N2 model with the echo/talkback put in!!!

He got lucky there those big radios tend to get butchered at the truck stop style cb shops

@@hazmathauler4536 Where's your test equipment? Opinions don't matter
@@rabbibacongrease88 I’m a trucker, not a tech. But I sure do know a great tech when I see one…#TheRadioGarage 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Tuned from a squawker to a real talker. Just connect it to a better speaker, instead of the factory squeaker!! This Ranger now rules!!

There ya go..take care 73 👋
Good sounding rig
Good work man
I add a plastic box on the side of radio for the echo knob and switch
Good job on the ranger how much can you get out of a 2950 rci hillbilly in the bam waving your way

Didn't seem to drift while doing some ssb for the short time that I had it here.
Day and night difference. Galaxies drift like a sailboat off frequency. No good for sideband. I stop using galaxies 25 years ago.
Still not accepting mail-ins yet?
I got a 1980s McKinley off eBay that I want to have checked out.
No status change yet
What is the average price of this radio? I like it, thanks
Almost a grand with the mod done.
Does its cb channels works with european means

If your using these on FM they drift off frequency after about 20 minutes to the point you can't really here who you are talking with
Just bought one of this radio and tuned up. How to contact you?
