Good detailed video 👍. I have a 98VHP I bought a few years ago . No complaints . I had the internal fans upgraded , plus I run it on a fan cradle , stays nice and cool even when I get long winded . They’re great sounding rigs and I definitely would buy this radio as well . They’re a hammer on AM
My first CB was the RC-2970. Had it for a week a after giving it to a friend of mine who was a trucker. That was quite a few years ago. Enjoy the HF bands much better.
I have had my 99N4 for a year now. One word, A BEAST!! I love it! I have gotten so many comments about the clarity and power. Now I am looking at the Longhorn N6. You can never have to many Rangers!🤘😎👍
IRun sideband a lot and in all the years I've never once touched the course clarifier most people that run sideband their rigs are pretty good they Don't Drift and you only really need a fine- tune clarifier! I'm definitely a Stryker fanboy but that is an awesome radio and Awesome video
dang the power that radio power it pulls. I have a thirty amp power supply which pulls my five ninety . I do have a marine power supply that would pull it the power supply is forth five amps.
Best video I have seen on this radio how long would it take for me to receive either the 99n4 or the Stryker 955 ready to go peaked and tuned and whatever else that you recommend done? Thanks
Totally agree about the clarifier thinking about buying this radio and that is definitely not a deal-breaker for me an i lik ssb mostly. with my Bearcat I never use the course
Do you still have any of these radios are they still available? I have an RCI x9 that was upgraded by Superior CB to 220 Watts would you be willing to take it in on trade? it's in perfect condition!
I searched long n hard and found one dealer that had only 3 left. I got my hands on one. Now putting together the 4g wiring in the t680 and sesrching the best antenna setup that'll work well with it. Can't wait to talk to that kat at the Walmart parkin lot in San Bernardino from Mid Missouri. 🤣🤣
Hello! Help please. I have this in the N4 version. All was fine until three weeks later.. the SWR shoots sky high, only with the amp on. I’ve ran it normally with amp on prior. I checked my antenna and tested it with similar 400 w radios and all is fine. What could be causing the spike in SWR all of a sudden?
Pushing 500 and no fan or very big heat sink, if you're big winded this would burn up quick with that switch on. My opinion it's best to have amps separate from the radio and not inside it because the heat will literally cook the internals of the radio. Also not to mention everyone knows heat rises, its so stupid when the put heat sink on the bottom. Im sorry but I think these export radios are just a huge waste of money and if you don't have the right person converting them and tuning them they are just nasty splatter boxes. Granted any radio whether export or not needs proper tuning but its a lot less expensive just buying a tuned up cobra 29 and running into amps. If it's a bad tune you might be out 150 to 200 as compared to a export where you could be out 500 or more. I just looked it up and this radio stock goes for closer to 800. That's a lot of money for something someone else's fingers have been inside of. That isn't to say whoever tuned this one didn't do it right, i like rooster and his videos and I'm sure he gets good reports. Im just saying I wouldn't take that big of a risk buying that expensive of a export radio from any shop even if they were my bestfriend. To each their own though.
Didn't spend the time to read the entire book you wrote, but figured I'd correct you on something you said earlier on. This radio actually does have dual fans built into it. Thanks for your huge writeup though. I'm sure someone will find it interesting
😂😂😂 drivers have zip tied amps to the bottom of radios 4 ever nothing new . Males it more compact uni less wires and matched to perform well . Don't allways have place for separate amp .
FM will never surpass SSB or AM here in the US. Export radio manufacturers have put fm on radios for years. I have a 20 year old connex with FM, and have talked to MAYBE one person in 20+ years on FM.
I understand FM has been on export radios forever and use was less then am or SSB it's good for local use squelch up Now they got this president and china radios doing am/FM now and Stryker . But the RCI radio they should thrown FM in on it anyhow. Nice radio looksa real powerhouse.
Why do you lie to the folks about the output being over 550 watts? You said, showing 550 watts output. You know that's wrong, It's more like 275to 310 true output. P.E.P. or PIP, Plate Input Power. 40% of input power is lost as heat in the finals while an average of 60% goes out to the antenna. Now, if they read this and come to you asking if this is true, what are you going to tell them? The truth, I hope. PEP wattage is never going to be an output power to the antenna.
Shouldn't you be out on a ledge somewhere? I guess myself and every other radio related business is wrong and you are spot on right? Your figures and discrepancies are extremely exaggerated. PS, if you don't like my videos, what I'm selling etc, no one is holding your eyelids open. Get a life
Not on AM it won't, and actually as for signal strength neither will it on sideband. The HF rig will probably have a little better sound, but these sound fine, especially considering the price. There's not a new ham radio made that will outperform this radio on AM

Had mine less than a month..So far so good!!..73s!
I lke your ten cents on the sideband comment. Always informative reviews , keep up the great videos Sir .
Wow, nice radio!🇺🇸
good looking radio
That's a monster.
The Rangers seem to be taking over the connex's around my neck of the woods . You have to pay to play but it costs to be the boss
More likely to do with the antenna than the radio and the amplifier in front of it. Connex is a product of Ranger
@@Rooster_Radio I have a Conex 4300 400 . It's old they don't make those no more

955s are in stock on roostercb.com.
Right now 2-3 weeks on this one
Wish Ranger would add hi cut

I know a guy that put it clarifier mod on it
@@whogothit I ended up getting one of these i put a 1 up switch in it and its a nice rig its on frequency
@@cwhitewelding9984 i’m looking at pulling the trigger to get one I do want to play around a lot in DX Land how is the sideband on it?

she is pretty.
Hola, me encanta esa emisora, donde podría comprarla teniendo en cuenta que soy de islas Canarias España, espero se pueda traducir el idioma, gracias.
Do you still recommend this radio over the Stryker?
It's more powerful so in that sense yes
Hi i am a sideband user , do they drift on ssb
Is this the newest Ranger big watt cb? I saw an article/ad for a new High Watt Cb radio and I couldn't remember if this was the one....

Nice Rig!
4 pill? Im lost...😂
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍✌
Are these better than the Connex 4300-300 ?
Better is a tough question really. They're newer, have SSB, freq counter etc.
Both great radios, 4300-300 aren't made anymore
Could I use straight 8 pill with power down
Just get a 99n2 if you want to use an 8 pill
@@Rooster_Radio would I see 2k watts
A real SSB radio needs to slide to the zero. SSB is an afterthought on a radio like this.
It’s a nice radio, regardless.
I agree, it needs a 6th digit on the frequency counter to be of any benefit on SSB.
Not sure why it needs an amp?
So you can drop that maul 😂
What Finals and how many??
Look it up.
How much $$ ?
No FM is only thing as everyone starts using FM on A channels and upper channels as a standard..
FM will never surpass SSB or AM here in the US.

How does a ranger radio compared to a president radio the newer presidents
