One of my favorite moments from the filmed version of the UK production: JD: You were right, I only destroy things like my dad... _I don't want you to end up like my mom!_
Honestly my main and pretty much only complaint is replacing Balls So Blue with You’re Welcome, because we didn't really need a rape attempt song and it makes it much harder to feel bad that they got killed after that. The addition of Never Shutting Up Again and this song however were great decisions on their part

As I Say No was only added when Heathers went to West End, there isn’t that many animatics for this song. Which is understandable, as people tend to prefer the original cast recording most of the time Which is why seeing this makes me so happy that this song gets to have another proper animatic. The expressions and energy is impressive, and I genuinely do like that JD’s reactions here are shown more, as it wasn’t that visible in the slime tutorial that I saw. I hope you do more
Damn, you go girl! We stan a queen recognizing she's in a toxic relationship and acknowledging that she can't help or change him ("you need help I can't provide") and saying no like a boss! And this animation is incredible! I do feel bad for JD, I know what it's like to grow up with an abuser, but Veronica is right. Trauma doesn't justify hurting others and continuing the cycle of harm. And he himself is very toxic and borderline abusive (if not actually abusive). Also I dunno who would be Veronica but I def feel like Dabi from My Hero Academia could be JD lol. Especially the parts about blaming his father and not justifying the harm he causes.
Good .... Gravy. This is your first animatic? This is up there with the greats. I'm talking right up there with Mushie R, ohitscosmo, Szin and Zikusa. The art, the fluidity, the symbolism. This song (and animatic) touches me really deep, I would have love to say "no" this hard to my toxic boyfriend, but I stayed with him two years anyways. I end up with depression and no friends and low self-estime. Three months ago I affortunatly broke up with him and im feeling alive again. I just would have love to say everything face to face and feel powerful just once. Sorry bc of my awful english, but I really wanted to tell u all this, if you're going through a toxic relationship, its no your fault, but it's yout responsability. Wow! I love the contrast of the “real” grey world and the red world, which contains all of the terrible things. I also love the fact that she physically pushes away the darkness every time she says no. Beautifully done!
This was freaking amazing!!!!!!! The song, the art style, and the way you told the story through those elements was near perfection!! Finally, thank you for doing this song. Not many people who know the musical seem to know that this song exists so seeing someone do this song was great on it's own. But the art? That was the icing on this beautiful cake!! Sorry if this sounds weird but this was really good and wanted to say this- ^^'
This animatic is fantastic! I truly don’t understand how this doesn’t have more likes, as everything about this is so cool! You can really see all of the work you put into this animatic!
I love this. Judging by how you animated this Veronica finally realizes that J.D. is mentally unstable and he doesn't actually love her. He loves manipulating her.
2:20 "but I love you!" I literally almost nearly cried 😭 this was hard to watch because I actually like JD and it's so hard to see him as a terrible person so my heart broke for him, but I love this animatic.
If Heathers ever makes it onto Broadway proper, I hope that they either add this song or make another which serves the same narrative function. It's so lame in the musical that the breakup of the relationship that was driving the plot was done without a proper song. I also love how there's nice subtle reprises of motifs from "Our Love is God" in here.
Wow! I love how JD unintentionally points the gun at her when he says "BUT I LOVE YOU!" And it just hardens her resolve. It really shows how toxic and controlling he is.
The West End version has 3 new songs which are "I Say No", "Never Shut Up Again", and "You're Welcome". "You're Welcome" and "Never Shut Up Again" replace "Blue" and "Blue (Reprise)" respectively.
@@JotatoTot In the West End version of the musical, "I Say No" comes before "Kindergarten Boyfriend". This is basically the part when Veronica breaks up with JD.
