@@goldskaipper Well being alone on an island, she kinda is. I would say they both are. She’s definitely being manipulative but I also think she genuinely believes everything she’s saying
@@marinadiaz1762 unfortunately victims can turn into abusers and that is pretty much her case, especially since in the official animatic Odysseus leaves in a boat he made himself just like that, it is obvious the ONLY thing stoping him was Calypso actively stoping every attempt. Not to mention even though she saw him struggling both mental and emotionally, she kept him on the island and "comforting" him with love bombing. So yes, she was a victim once, but she is also currently an abuser even if she think she is did everything right.
I get Calypso lives in isolation, but after realizing she forced him to be her husband under the influence of her spell for 7 years, knowing he was married, I don't feel too bad.
Loneliness. Total isolation is a horrible thing. In the myth she jumps from the cliffs after he leaves to escape it. They were both victims in the story…

In this particular telling of the story, Calypso and her unrequited love breaks my heart. Because if you think about it, in basic terms, she was a damsel in distress and Ody, to her, was her salvation. Her knight in shining armor. We look at fairy tales and never think hey maybe the charming hero already has a love of his own. From her perspective, she thought he was meant for her, he was her miracle come true. Endless nights wishing for companionship and here he is right in front of her, only to find out he is already taken. This song breaks my heart. No pain like unrequited love. What can she do with all that love for the wrong person? It's so sad.
@@oblivion704THIS THANK YOU. In this telling of it she is alone and just wanted someone to understand her when Ody was also alone. He lost his entire crew, is unsure if his family is still waiting and so much more. And then to suddenly have someone wash up on shore. And even in Love in Paradise near the end you can hear her concern for him. People keep pointing to other myths and beating her down and its like epic is its own retelling.
Calypso is choosing to hold Odysseus hostage despite the first words out of his mouth to her being about his wife. Epic even blatantly strips the original myths 'maybe love curse' defense, and makes it clear that Calypso had full control of her mind. This Calypso chose to try and break Odysseus until he stopped resisting her affection. The lyrics to 'There are other ways' showcases everything Calypso tried to do; she tried to use deceit (telling Odysseus he couldn't leave when she just didn't want to let him), and other modes of control (forced isolation and lust). Even this song is just a temper tantrum and her blaming him for choosing his wife
@@laith8116 so its okay to entrap someone on ur island for 7 years cause u want them all to urself and knowing that they want to go home cause they have a family at home. I was waiting to see the animatic for this if anyone will portray how Calypso tries to convince Ody that she did out of sincere "Love". I love this so much!
I find it hard to feel bad for Calypso sometimes. Yes, she was casted away for hundreds of years at a young age and longed for company but it still doesn’t excuse her actions. In some myths her and Ody have kids together. Children born of a loveless relationship. Children born from force. I don’t believe that she was so blinded by love to not see how miserable Ody was. To see that he tried to push her away. To see that he was unable to love the children she gave him. For now, I think I've mentioned everything that the replies pointed out. If there is anything that I missed then please tell me! Just be polite it. right. but this one follows a whole different story line... so im out here crying for her even thou shes lowkey manipulative she still deserves more in the epic uni
Not only did they not have kids together in the original Odyssey, but they don't have kids together in this series, either, so I think it's kind of unfair to be like "Well, in this completely different story, she raped him and attempted to baby trap him."
I don't think she did anything to ody in this version but still, even if she didn't do anything to him physically she still pretty much tormented him mentally by forcing him to stay in her island to the point that he wanted to die then and there. I do kinda feel bad for her in this but no amount of her backstory can fix the trauma she gave ody for 7 years. That's almost a decade. Imagine being trapped with somebody who's forcing you to love her for 7 whole years. If he didn't have a family to go home to I'm sure he would've already killed himself long before it Also the "let me speak" was such a subtle manipulative and gaslighter move, not even letting ody explain or something
Goddamn, how much you emphasize the light leaving her eyes from when she’s left on the island at first to the passing of 100 years, and it returns when Odysseus washes ashore. And then as she’s watching him leave, so does the light in her eyes as well. But for the briefest moment, it comes back when he tells her “I love you.” My feels. Your speed in making this is unreal 💜👏🏼
She is just such a lonely nymph and I can't help but feel bad for her, but she was a very much still Odysseous' captor. UGHHH this character gives me such a mixed bag of feelings.
Honestly, I think the end of the second verse was Ody realizing that he and Calypso had one horrible thing in common: They were both stuck in a place they couldn't call home, where they were separated from any and all loved ones. He had pressed pause on her suffering while he essentially took her place as the one in that pain, and it was a wound they could only pass back and forth, but never heal. And his conviction to make it home didn't waver, but that didn't stop him from feeling sympathy for her.
Well yes but also in Epic she hasn’t done anything much other than verbally ignoring what he told her. She didn’t do anything physical, and she also wasn’t keeping him forcefully (seeing as even if she wanted to let him go off the island she couldn’t do anything either)
@@NyehNyeh12 the only reason he was able to leave was because Zues ordered Hermes to tell her that she needs to. I feel so seen, and in a time where people would tear me to pieces for saying that I chased after someone who didn't love me, and hoped for years that they would feel the same way, it's so good to know that there are others who feel the same way about this song as I do. Our past decisions may not dictate who we are today, and being able to share in the pain of the past is such a healing feeling.
I'm glad someone said it! People hating on Calypso, I get it, but like come on, people, she was terribly lonely and Ody was the first person she fell in love with. Have some compassion.
@@smoresmewWe do...but then we remember that she repeatedly tried to push herself onto a man who repeatedly told her that he's already married, pulled the "I'm a goddess, you do as I say" card, kept him trapped for SEVEN YEARS, nearly drove him to suicide with the hopelessness of the situation, won't even let him speak here and pulls a classic non-apology line with "I'm sorry if my love is too much for you" as if anything she's done can be remotely considered an act of love. Yes, her situation sucks. But if I was Odysseus, I would absolutely hate her. Calypso is the difference between Odysseus getting to reunite with his son at age 13 vs seeing the "boy" at 20. Odysseus had a chance to get home in time to be there for at least SOME of Telemachus' childhood. But now, thanks to Calypso's selfishness, he's completely missed that opportunity. Imagine the agony of counting the years, the many failed escape attempts, wondering what happened to your loved ones, your kingdom, dealing with the grief and weight of what you've already lost, all while some goddess tries to sing in your ear and convince you to bed her then has the GALL to say "I'm not sorry for loving you/I'm sorry if my LOVE is too much for you."
@emoneestep I get that, but I think you are blaming calypso for things outside of her control or maybe I just interpreted the situation all wrong. Ody got banished here by Zeus, Calypso herself has also been stuck here unable to leave. To me it's understandable for Ody to hate her but she didn't make Ody go mad, he was already going mad when he showed up on her island and then was stuck unable to leave and was left ruminating. He would have been pushed to suicide had she been there or not. I think calypso thought she could help him, provide distraction from the pain for both of them. I'm not saying that was healthy or even right but it's certainly understandable. I do see the manipulation tactic of wearing him down but honestly I might be drivin to wearing someone down if they were the only other person on my island, the hope of any possible connection and intimacy would be a strong pull not easily dropped. Also when she says "I'm sorry if my love is too much for you " I think she is being genuine. She sees how she pushed him and tried to manipulate him. Love for her was a selfish infatuation, of course, it was! Ody was the first person she fell in love with.
Holy cow this is quick and it’s so gorgeously well done how on earth did you get it done this quickly you had to work all night. I bet I’m it released less than 24 hours ago. The emotion on each of the characters faces the beautiful color pallets.
I love how you emphasized the loneliness and miserableness of Calypso being alone for 100 years by having the gleam in her eyes being gone. Then the gleam came back when Odysseus washed ashore emphasizing how she saw Odysseus as a miracle, a dream come true, and cure to her never ending loneliness. I don’t care what anyone says I will always feel bad for Calypso and the fate that was put upon her.
You can feel bad for her AND recognise that what she did was horrible Calypso is a tragic and complex character but that doesn’t excuse what she did Odysseus is the first person she ever meets, there’s no way she knows she loves him or even knows what love is. Not to mention how she walks all over him and his boundaries, gaslights and interrupts him. It definitely shows how isolation can warp your manner especially if you never learned how to interact with others in the first place. She’s not wrong for wanting someone to love her, but she is in the wrong for forcing someone It’s just v sad and I like to imagine that she eventually learns how to people properly and what love is when she finds people who will love her in many different ways, cause the Greeks had lots of different types of love, and maybe eventually find someone who loves her the way she wants to be loved - but not until after learning what love is, realising the way she treated Odysseus was wrong, and that he loved in a different way than she tried to force him to

The shock in Ody's eyes when he hears he's actually leaving captures the seven years hes been stuck there just as perfectly as the flashbacks you give to their time together and the HUG. AHG. I love how this animation captures her whole range of emotions in a humanizing way from her being trapped on that island to the relief of him being there and even the times she "ambushed" him and "came on too strong." I sympathize with her at the same time that I cannot condone many of her actions and that is the exact energy that the song was trying to invoke in us too. Perfect match

This is really well done, I really admire how well you were able to show the range of complex emotions coming from Calypso. Being alone from that long of time and to be sent a prisoner as unavailable as Odysseus is makes this part of the Odyssey particularly rule (from Epic's perspective).
I love how her eyes were still dark even after he said he loved her, cause it feels like she knows its a lie. But when he added "but not in the way that you want me to", her eyes lit up again, cause that meant the "I love you" wasn't a lie
I feel so bad for Calypso. Her whole situation reminds me of the movie Passengers. "The drowning man will always try to take down someone with him. It ain't right, but the man is drowning." This quote from the movie sums up what Calypso probably feels, she was alone for a HUNDRED YEARS, and then somebody suddenly shows up, of course she'd do anything in her power to have him stay and not feel lonely anymore.
But to keep him there against his will for 7 years knowing hes married and wants to go home isnt justifiable. Its one thing to feel sorry for her and its another to emphasize with her. Cause you shouldn't emphasize with her knowing all what she did.
@@boiriNo one said it was justified. Also, to emphasize with someone is to simply imagine yourself in their situation and feel their feelings as if they were yours. In this case, imagining being isolated on an island for a century, and what that would do to you. Obviously Calypso’s actions are cruel to Ody and unjustifiable, but I don’t think that empathizing with her to better understand her is necessarily bad. So long as you don’t excuse her actions.

You can feel bad for her AND recognise that what she did was horrible
Calypso is a tragic and complex character but that doesn’t excuse what she did
Odysseus is the first person she ever meets, there’s no way she knows she loves him or even knows what love is. Not to mention how she walks all over him and his boundaries, gaslights and interrupts him. It definitely shows how isolation can warp your manner especially if you never learned how to interact with others in the first place.
She’s not wrong for wanting someone to love her, but she is in the wrong for forcing someone
It’s just v sad and I like to imagine that she eventually learns how to people properly and what love is when she finds people who will love her in many different ways, cause the Greeks had lots of different types of love, and maybe eventually find someone who loves her the way she wants to be loved - but not until after learning what love is, realising the way she treated Odysseus was wrong, and that he loved in a different way than she tried to force him to
@ I never said I excused her behavior.
she raped him....
@@SkyJustDontCare She's just discussing it.
@@thevigilant6884 ah ok
This song is the definition of "hurt people hurt people" and I love it.
This is littery the quickest and talanted fandom I've ever seen
Like, I'm sry, but you made this masterpiece in like 1 day?! How is this even posible?!
I love the detail of her hair changing. 🩷
When I first listened genuinely i thought she was gonna apologize for everything she did to him, i don't feel much sympathy for her knowing the implications of what shes done (this is absolutely BEAUTIFUL tho, sksmsmsjdbdnejdn your art is just DELICIOUS)
What implications?
@@oc4025implied S’A I believe
@@currentlyhidinginurwallz I don't really think it's implied in the musical, quote the opposite actually considering this song and the fact circe's SA was also written out
@oc4025 True, but we do know that Calypso wanted to at least from 'Soon into bed we'll climb and spend our time' as well as 'seven years she's kept you trapped out of your control' might be a slight implication.
Also, unlike Circe's I don't recall (I might be wrong-) Jorge never cannonly confirmed that she didn't-
Just sharing information not saying you're wrong :)
YOOO IM NOT SORRY TEAM LETS GOO!! I was amazed at how beautiful this song was and your animation for it is so gorgeous and heartfelt, and done in LESS THAN ONE DAY 😭😭
this song breaks my heart enough already as it is, but the visuals you added of them both crying adds to the pain /pos
THIS FANDOM IS SO FAST HOLY COW… THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL. THE EXPRESSIONS, THE EYESSS, THE DESIGNSSS, AND YOUR ART STYLE IS SO PRETTY AAAAAA
the scene of her as a child watching them leave her echoing the end where odysseus leaves her too....god why am i crying
You are the artist that introduced me to EPIC with your Love in Paradise animatic, THANKS!
I love your artstyle and damn, you're REALLY fast
The emotions are so surreal it can hit you from the screen with 3D punch
This is so pretty! I love her showing Ody her past and memories
This is sooooo gorgeous, I adore Calypso design so much, but tell me, which god did you sell your soul to in order to be this fast? This is crazy.
AND I THOUGHT HERMES WAS FAST (OMG I LOVE YOUR DESIGNS AND ANIMATION AND THE WHOLE THING THE ONLY WORST PART ABT THIS ANIMATION IS THAT IT ENDED I LOVE IT
I love the little hairbrush detail. It's really cool.
I love your style so much!!!!! This is amazing and I love your depiction of this song ❤️❤️
The emotion in your drawings is so well done! Its even crazier that you managed to do this in 24 hours!
Already crying after I listened to this song, then went back for Love In Paradise; okay, I’m probably gonna die. 😊
Poor Calypso… lovely animatic and beautiful art style! 🩷
AMAZING! I LOVE YOUR WORK! IT’S SOOO PRETTY! You worked so hard and quickly! It’s beautiful

1:23 the way her eyes lit up is so sad
and the way I keep crying to this song and I just cried so much harder watching this, thank you
Please let me stay on this side of the internet, the part that shows Calypso the love she deserves!!! I love your art style, and to have done this not 24 hour after the song aired is amazing!
Calypso my beloved
No, Calypso forced herself on Odysseus knowing he was married for seven years, what if it was a man who did that to woman, that would be wrong, so why isn’t this considered wrong
@@mrcool2929 its wrong no matter who does it to who, man or woman... so i hope that op meant the love she deserves as a character? like as an interesting character? like i love antinous character in this musical but he is a terrible person
@@mrcool2929 Right? If it's man (God) the whole "red flag" and "creepy" or even "psycho" will be thrown easily but because Calypso is a women (Goddess) who is been isolating suddenly it's "She have issues".
@@sneakymimoma Yeah, Calypso is an interesting character, I like her like I like Zeus or Poseidon, terrible people but good characters (who sing so damn well)
Yall are quick
The sheer Speed of this project! Great work! Excited to see animatics for the new Saga!
You really made me cry... It's amazing
Such gorgeous work 😍 i love the eye glimmers, it's subtle yet sooo impactful ! Well done ❤
BRO HOW TF IS THIS ALREADY DONE?! ITS BEEN LIKE 24 HOURS?! AND ITS SO GOOD TOO WTF!
no one works faster than the EPIC fandom animatic creators *crying emoji, heart emoji*
God this fandom works fast, beautiful work! Love your design for Calypso!
Nah you're calypso would 100% be able to make me stay ong
I love her with her hair down, your art is too good💗
This community is so fast with the animatics, truly breathtaking. Amazing work!
The sadness mixed with attempted guilt tripping, nice.
This is really well done, I really admire how well you were able to show the range of complex emotions coming from Calypso. Being alone from that long of time and to be sent a prisoner as unavailable as Odysseus is makes this part of the Odyssey particularly rule (from Epic's perspective).
WHY ARE THE ARTISTS OF EVERY SINGLE FANDOM IM IN QUICKER THAN THE GODDAMN SPEED OF LIGHT???
Epic fans work so fast, it’s insane 😭🙏
The flash fears epic the musical animators
HOW DO WE ALREADY HAVE AN ANIMATIC?! THIS IS SO PRETTY!

HOW Y'ALL WORK SO FAST??? THIS IS SO COOL ‼️
This truly is a Hermes Saga moment
It’s barely been a day- HOW DO PEOPLE DO THIS SO FAST-
it hasnt even been a day this is amazing
SO QUICK WITH IT... I LOVE UR ART
HOW DID YOU MAKE THIS SO QUICKLY??? THE SONGS BEEN OUT FOR LESS THAN 24 HOURS
THIS IS A MASTERPIECE BTW. YOU ARE ACTUALLY LIKE CRAZY TALENTED FOR MAKING SUCH A BEAUTIFUL MASTERPIECE SO FAST
Ma’am this is not how you do an apology.
