Honestly, I always thought this was the most intimidating Eggman boss in the whole series. Eggman is seen controlling this huge transformer-esque contraption, while attempting to crush Sonic in ludicrous ways. They both fight on top of a spaceship that is falling through the stratosphere. Eggman gets so desperate in destroying Sonic in the end that he flies into the distance, and attempts to crash into the airship (boss arena) that were are fighting on. The scripting for this boss was so brilliant...
I feel like the mechanic of rings flying farther every time you get hit is what makes this fight so brutal. The instant kill attacks as well. Most sonic bosses can be cheesed but this one in particular punishes you for going in with the mindset of "as long as I can hold in to this one, I'll be okay".
And the fact that you had to beat an attack *taking no damage* for him to actually do that other attack that lets you climb his arm (With the pummelling attack exceptions). Kudos for them for forcing you to learn how to use the spindash too, since you need that to avoid his instakill attack reliably.
I love that mechanic and wish other Sonic games had that. I also enjoyed how tougher the bosses are in this game. The newer Sonic games just don't give me any challenge and I hate that.
Taking down this boss is definitely satisfying because of how hard it is. And it’s not hard from poor design like the four phase nonsense at the end of Death Egg Zone in Sonic 3 and Knuckles. You just need pure skill to get through it.
@@GatorOne-in7hk I agree except for the Sonic & knuckles part. I don't see what's the flaw in the design? As far as I see a final boss should bring doing whatever it takes to beat you.
