The thing about PTX is they never try to show off whose best, they use whose best to show off the song. There are no egos when it comes to making music and that's why everyone loves them. They are five genuine people who only want to make beautiful music together, no matter who gets the shine. 😎

    • @dtwolfe63

Quite true and very well stated. The short documentary of the Recording of Evergreen proves this. It shows them choosing who is going to take which parts. It also shows how they go about arranging their music and more insights into their everyday work.

Imagine by Pentatonix may be one of the most important videos of this century. This group took a classic song of tolerance and peace and modernized it as only they can. They are a perfect example of what respect and love can be like. Five people with differences in race, religion, gender, and sexuality can do beautiful things when they work together. I cried when I heard this the first time. I still usually tear up when they go into Wall of Sound mode. Unfortunately showing this to Pentaholics is kind of like preaching to the choir with most of us.

  • @theresarigio5627
    @theresarigio5627 2 года назад +69

One of their most beautiful ones. You would certainly not be the first to cry during one of their songs. You experienced an example of their “ wall of sound”. When they all come together to harmonize, there is nothing more beautiful. And about Christmas songs. They are known for them. They have six or seven Christmas albums out. And as you can imagine, not done in the traditional style. Sooo much better.💕💕💕

    • @adambooker3846

Not just Mitch but Scott as well. The most beautiful part of the video was the passing of the card. It shows what they have in common as they pass it but also celebrating their differences as they flip it.

@@adambooker3846 they all are amazing. I said Mitch because of how he was always unsure of himself, getting bullied growing up, and then he becomes a part of the force that is PTX and he gradually opens up and becomes the Mitch that we see, more sure of himself, not afraid to stand out, or stand up for himself and others. His transformation is what makes me smile. That he finally found himself.

I believe John Lennon would be proud & so happy with this rendition of his song......I love how Pentatonix always respect the original artist, yet have the ability, to inject a little Pentatonix, without taking away any of the intended message in the song, & sometimes even introduce some new emotions !!! 💖💖💖 RIP John Lennon, we all miss you 💖💖💖

Perfect Christmas song you say? The Prayer is next for you, then. Arguably one of their best arrangements, just came out last November. :) If you want to be just positively floored by stark naked harmonies, their rendition of My Heart With You is another holiday-ish piece released in November which is a longtime favorite of Scott, Mitch, and Kirstie. They've performed it live in concerts for tens of thousands of fans and reportedly in the middle of the song you can hear a pin drop so intense is the emotion from their harmonies. :)
The Prayer is safer if you're concerned about tears. But hey, Salvo, none of the Pentaholics will think any less of you for tearing up from their arrangements so, cut loose, my dude.

  • @melissacoviello2886

It was perfect when you said you could see them singing a beautiful Christmas song, they have many, many Christmas albums. They have had a Christmas album go to the 4th best selling in all music the year it was released and the honor of hitting the charts, making it the first time since 1962 that a Christmas album charted. They are phenomenal. They are synonymous with Christmas and usually take songs that are a little boring and breathe new life into them. Amazing Grace, Little Drummer Boy, silent Night, Mary did you know, Away in a manger etc…

We don't judge when you tear up. Believe me when I say that we are all doing it too. Every. Single. Time. John Lennon wrote a beautiful song and his performance was touching and reached a lot of people. That being said, this performance, I think, takes it well beyond that point and is compelling in its style, execution, and last but not least, its inclusivity. This group is the very definition of diverse. Sorry, rambling. I love this performance and always get a warm fullness in my heart hearing it.

  • @rlhcat7662

This one is very special, partly because it is one of the few songs where they each have a full solo part. Kevin has to beatbox so often that we rarely get to hear his beautiful tenor in a solo. It doesn't help to have a favorite singer on a song like this, because you realize that the song would be so much less without any one of them. For a few upbeat songs, check out Love Again (original), Can't Sleep Love (original) or Havana (cover).

This message is as relevant today as when Lennon wrote it. If someone isn't touched by this they have no soul. In case no one has mentioned it, each card represents something about the holder and is shared with the person it's passed onto. Love me when I don't or Happy now would be more uplifting. Any of their Christmas songs are worth a reaction. They take them and just make them perfect. Would really love to see your reaction to Carol of the Bells live with Matt. You said Kevin's voice would be great for a Christmas song, he wrote an original Pentatonix Christmas song "That's Christmas to Me", that he doesn't beatbox in but doesn't have a solo part either. but it's a very beautiful song and video. If you like to hear more of Kevin singing then check out his own youtube channel, Kevin Olusola - KO. It has him singing, cello-boxing, and songs from his side group triptyq. Please, please don't try to find One individual to shine when they work so hard to Blend as a unit. They really are a family, even when Avi left because of his Mom's cancer and his dedication to perfection. Avi's sister was their road manager and they both were flying home after performances to see their Mom. Thankfully her health improved but they lost 2 critical people to the group.
The trio grew up together through Community Arts Theater and that means their parents drove them around and are friends as well. Mitch's dad Mike said they were good friends with Scott's parents at the parents conference known as PentaCon 2018. That had both Kevin's Mom, Dad and sister as well as Matt's Dad, Mom and sister. There was also a PentaCon 2016 with just a few parents but Avi's Mom had a video message since she couldn't attend. Scott and Mitch have been friends since they were 10 and Mitch met Kirstin around age 8. They grew up together through puberty which is why their voices blend so well even when most voices change.
Matt was new in 2017, but he is the only one that was doing acopella at Berkeley and he went to PTX concerts before he joined the band. He didn't even know it was PTX when he auditioned. Scott has always been a singer but he didn't explore acopella until he met Ben Brum at USC his first year. 10 years later they lead the accopella world.

Avi has a 5 octave range and is voice trained in opera, jazz and choral music (to give you an idea Scott has 4 which is also 2 octaves larger than the average). They use Avi to convey emotions in songs as Scott has explained. Avi coached Kevin in singing when they were roommates starting out. Kevin was strictly an instrumentalist on cello and saxaphone before Pentatonix. Oh and Avi is 5'11" Scott is 6'4" so there is that oddity you will discover if you ever do Avi's solo music he is taller than you would assume from Pentatonix.

Man, people talk about Scott's range, which is insane, but Avi's range is just inhuman! To get to those highs, and then go down as low as he does? Gawd dayum!

I also love the messaging behind this video, right down to the order in which they passed the cards to each other. Mitch holds up the LGBTQ+ card and passes it to Scott who is also gay, then he flips it over to MAN and passes it to Avi who's also a man, then he flips it to JEWISH to describe himself, then AMERICAN and passes it to Kevin who's also American, then he flips it to BLACK and CHRISTIAN to describe himself, then passes CHRISTIAN to Kirstie who is also Christian, then she flips it to WOMAN and LATINA. It's such a subtle and beautiful way of showing just how diverse they all are, but also how they have things in common. Very clever. (This was also a subtle way for Scott to come out to the public, as this was his first public declaration of who he is.)

Just the song that we need this time with what's happening. Imagine all the people living life in peace...peace. this too emotional? Try 'Happy' (Pharel cover), 'No' (Meghan Trainor cover) or even Gangnam Style where Scott songs Korean. These are the more upbeat ones.

John Lennon's song is a classic for any age, and Pentatonix added their own layer that made it especially relevant for today. No worries on the tears. PTX has a way of drawing us in with their raw voices, lifting us up with their harmonies, giving us a good shake with their innovations and creative percussion and then releasing us, moved to the core. Tears are often a part of going along for that ride. Thanks for being willing to share the experience. Also, I think the word you may have been looking for was, "effective." This video was really effective at getting its message across. Another great reaction!

This one gets me every time 😢 Most of PTX's videos are very simple, but yet so powerful. Kudo's to whoever does their video sets for them.
