DIY: BMW E39 Front Bumper Removal
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 10 июл 2024
- Video tutorial on how to remove the front bumper on a BMW E39. This car is equipped with the standard style bumpers, but not an M5 or M Technic style so the procedure will be slightly different. The same produce applies both to sedan and touring/wagon models. Fog lights can still be kept in place during the removal, this tutorial only removes the least amount of parts necessary. This particular was done on a 1997 BMW 540i pre facelift sedan.

Tools/Supplies Needed:
-standard/flat screwdriver or clip removal tool
-nylon trim tool
-T50 torx bit driver
-ratchet
-8mm wrench
Procedure:
-remove the four plastic expanding clips from the grills next to the fog lights
-remove the two clips located on the top side of the grill on each side using a small V style pry tool, a standard screw driver, or side cutters will also work but be careful not to cut the pin
-the center of the pin pulls straight out and this disengages the expanding clip, then you will be able to fully remove the clips
-using a pry tool, disconnect two tabs on the top of the grill, remove the top portion first and then the lower portion will release, do this for both sides
-fogs lights can be removed now or after
-to remove the fog lights, remove the two bolts on each fog light and them pull the bolt side out first, there will be a tab on the opposite side
-once the fog light is remove, disconnect the clip on the backside, but depressing the tab and pulling straight off
-remove the two 8mm bolts at the top of the lower liner, the one closest to the outside does connect directly to the bumper
-next remove the two bottom 8mm bolts which also connect directly to the bumper
-finally remove the two T50 torx bolts holding on the bumper assembly which are located above the grills we removed earlier, one on each side
-having extra person helping out to remove the bumper is recommended
-inserting one hand behind the aluminum rebar where the grills were removed and another hand firmly on the wheel well side of the bumper, pull straight off the vehicle
-some extra force may be needed
-once removed, disconnect the fog light wires by depressing a tab and pulling away from the fog light assembly
-if your vehicle is equipped with headlight washers, remove the feed hose by pulling the black clip outward and then disconnecting the hose connection
-installation in reverse of removal

Thanks for the helpful video. I am just wondering is it possible to separate the metal plate that runs across inside the bumper?

Thank you, happy to help!
Should be very similar for the m5 I’m assuming?
nice informative video. thx
Thank you :)
Thanks much
No problem :)
Is the process different for the Facelift M Bumper? Or rather largely different? A piece of my bumper broke off after a chunk of ice flew off another car and I'd like to fix it "properly" with resin and fiberglass sheets.
Should be very similar as these bumpers are interchangeable between the M and non M bumpers.
Thank you,like a clockwork.
Happy to help :)
Thanks too easy when you see video, didnt know where the Torx bolts would be
