    Hi Mate
    Im new to hunting and live in Melbourne. Do you know where i can spotlight & hunt rabbits & Foxes

    • @Thehuntsmanshow
      @Thehuntsmanshow  2 года назад +3

      Hi Benny,
      Hunting rabbits and foxes on public land can be tricky as most of it is state forest, not plainsor paddocks where the foxes rabbits like to feed. You might be a le to find some crown land using the apps. Just look for areas near you and cross reference it with Google satellite data to check the landscape. If it's covered in trees you won't find any man rabbits.
      As for spot lighting on public land it's a major no no. It's actually illegal to use a spot light or thermal gear when hunting on public land in Victoria (and most other states)
      Hope that helps clarify Benny.
      - Chris

    I just want to hunt pigs with thermal at night somewhere in Vic pref on Sate land where i can camp with friends/kids and somewhere i dont need permission, any ideas guys?

      @Thehuntsmanshow  11 месяцев назад +2

      Hi JH. Unfortunately you can't hunt State Forest in VIC with a thermal or at night l, both are illegal at the moment. Though that might change in the future. You can however hunt pigs specifically in some NSW state forest at night with lights (no thermals though). You will need an r licence to do that too

      @@Thehuntsmanshow Ok thank you mate - there goes the dream lol
      So i guess the only place you can use thermals is on private property.
      I'll look into the R licence as well.

    New to the sport I habe been to three locations steathbogie , licola and Jamieson and yet to bag a deer 🦌 yet. I've been told I can get a deer anytime of the year but recently I was told summer is a bid waste of time. Can you help me get started I have found sign of deer but no luck locating them which sucks 😕 I'd really like some help

    • @Thehuntsmanshow
      @Thehuntsmanshow  2 года назад +2

      Hi Pete. Sumers fine to hunt, it's just more difficult as the deer are generally bedded down in thr shade and difficult to find without alerting. Hunters tend not to hunt so much in Summer as well because it makes harvesting meat hard. Once you shoot the deer you're on a timer to butcher it and get the meet in a freezer before it spoils.
      As for help there are three things I'd recommend.
      1. Join a hunting club. A hunting club is a great way to meet other hunters, share knowledge and experience, and maybe even find a mentor.
      2. Go in a paid guided hunt. Nothing substitutes professional advice and demonstrations. If you're based in Victoria I'd recommend going on a guided hunt with Tyson Volke from ""Deer Sign" he's just started as a guise so his rates are well priced, but he's a seasoned hunter with HEAPS of experience. Let me know and I can pass on his details to you in an email
      3. If you've found sign in one of the locations go back and try it again, and again, and again. Try different times of the day (morning and evening) and try and find a water source they might use. Hunting is a game of patience, keep at it and you'll eventually find and shoot your first deer. Perseverance builds character!
      Let me know how you go Pete. I'd love to hear your first success story.
      - Chris

      Hey mate. Try either the More To Explore app or the Hunting Grounds app. They both show crown land parcels. Best to check with your LGA as well first because sometimes they can be leased. Also I'm not sure about the legalities of making shleters on crown land... lol state park is one thing, but crown land is a little different:)

      @Thehuntsmanshow  2 года назад +1

      @@adrianp2007 great question. I have no idea haha. Whether it's state park or crown land it's still owned by the government so I'm guessing any semi permanent structure wouldn't be allowed. With that said my kids build cubbys and hideouts in the bush all the time... but they are not trying to live in them.

      Hi Ashish. That's a good idea. I have a feeling though in order to obtain a firearm license you would need to gain residency, at which point thr normal rules would apply. I could be wrong though.

    Arrow hunting need a license for hunting?

    • @Thehuntsmanshow
      @Thehuntsmanshow  Год назад +1

      You'll have to check with the state or territory you are hunting in to know for certain, but in Victoria you don't need a license to hunt with a bow. But if you are hunting deer you will need a game license. They are purchased every year only from the GMA website and cost around $66

      Hmmmm good question. I'm assuming your referring to hunting in state forest, not private land. If your hunting pests in state forest (goats, pigs, rabbits, hates, foxes etc) there is no issue with having your dog come along or assist. If you're hunting deer (except hog deer) with the assistance of your dog you will need to follow certain rules, like dog breed, number of dogs ECT.
      You can learn more about the rules here www.gma.vic.gov.au/hunting/deer/deer-hunting-laws/hunting-game-birds-and-deer-with-dogs-in-victoria
