Yes I’m with you! For me, I think it’s about the photographer drawing attention to how they personally perceived the scene and conveying that to the viewer. Love the lines of waves in your photo at 6.21!😊
Thanks, Tony for another thoughtful video. I agree with you 100% about truth in "real" photography. You may have coined a new name there for a whole new genre of photography. I recently looked back over my dad's 65 year old colour slides. They are still magnificent quality, even all these years later. And, for those that can't believe it, colour film was available all those years ago! film was available
Good video, for me your best yet: thoughtful and practical. I liked your use of reflection in a shot and intellectually. AI will be a boon for some, for others like me, pure pastiche. Keep it real, Tony.
Hi Tony, lovely variation in this vid, lovely clear days too, obviously not early jan when all the north coast, when I was there was covered in ‘clag’ !
Hi Tony, brilliant images and episodes you make here. I am enjoying each episode more than the one before. Keep doing it, please. And yes I'm with you. Real photography or even real art needs to be supported.
hi Tony I had this debate not long ago with a fellow photographer about sky replacement. Astro photos quite often are made up of several photographs stacked on top of each other to get more light and data exposing for the sky and also exposing a different shot for the foreground so technically this is a composite. I don't have a problem with composite photographs as long as you have told the viewer that's what it is because in the long run you did actually take the photographs. But sitting at home and just typing something into AI so it produces what you want isn't photography, so I'm with you it is more true as a photo as you actually made the effort to get the shot. great video as usual.
Thank you very much Mark, yes Astro, Focus-stacking, Exposure blending (I did this on the Moon shots) are all composites technically, but as long as you keep it true to the scene then it is the truth. Obviously Astro looks nothing like the scene we see with the naked eye, but as long as it's done faithfully it's okay.
Love your attitude to photography and fully agree. Adobe appear to be fully invested in the AI route now with Lightroom and Photoshop basically becoming editors for digtail art. There is however still an art in capturing a scene as it looks on location.
@@timday Thanks very much Tim. Yes I agree, capturing how it looks, with as much of your own style as possible (I love low viewpoints with large depth of field, others see things differently which is great).
Good video Tony, yes I'm with you on this one, I hate that HDR some do with the images it just doesn't look right to me. I love that tree Tony at the start of the video, where did you say it was located?. keep em coming Tony 👍
Thank you Tony, yes I agree about HDR, don't see so much of it these days thank goodness! The tree is in a private field overlooking Truro, near Idless.
As I approach retirement, I'm returning to photography. I'm shooting 6x6 film. I loathe modified photos, but I see them all the time. I have a friend who does this. She takes the subject out and then spends hours in Photoshop blending backgrounds. It's nice art and it sells, but it isn't photography. She has more wrapped up in all her digital stuff than I make in a year, so I guess she has to reclaim all that somehow.
All I can say is thank you sir I do not use any of those items that you just specified if I see it with my eyes I am hoping that the camera will capture it that is if I did the settings correctly that is and hoping that it I can use my Lightroom 2020 and get the colors exactly as I see them in real life no a eyeball crap no replacements The other thing I will do is remove spots question again that's a typical normal thing I guess but that's about the extent of it no cloning out items everything I see has to be exactly in the photograph to the best of my ability without AI manipulative bullcrap
Hi Tony, there is more to AI than replacement Skies, I use it quite a lot at different times giving my Images a slight enhancement not create an entirely different look, I do not replace the Sky in any Image I find Camera presets and Lightroom presets an asset every serious Photographer should embrace, you can have a conversation with fellow Photographers about AI and some will be 100% for it and some 100% against it at the moment, there seems to be no middle ground, don't forget you cannot get something from nothing, If you shoot in Raw you can only draw out what's in a particular Image if It's there, that's the whole idea of post processing, no Camera of any amount of money produces wonderful Images strait out of Camera, recently I was shown two Images very lightly processed, both landscapes One taken by a all bells and whistles £10.000 Camera the other by a £1.400 Camera both A3 in size and both were so good I could not tell the difference nor could professional Judges, It just goes to show everyone has an opinion, nice Video, Colin.
Yes you're right Sanclew, of course if you blew those images up to 1m wide you'd soon tell the difference I expect. Even if not, I love having the crop capability of 60MP. Yes, already using AI in LR and PS, and it's great in those! Thank you for your comments, much appreciated.
@tonyhowellcouk I think we will be bombarded with 'real' images that are not. I guess that is probably already happening. Competitions aside it is already becoming frustrating.

Nice to see Porthcurno, St. Michael's Mount and the Merry Maidens - three of my favourite places in Cornwall!
Mine too! Thank you Bill.

Thank you Mr7! Great comments, very encouraging.
I agree with you about real photography Tony.
Thank you Lenz, hopefully it'll shine through all this fake stuff.

Hi Tony amazing video 😊😊
Thank you so much enjoylife!
Very interesting video Tony how true your words are thank you

Nice one, Tony. I had to chuckle though when I saw your caption 'More like my usual style. My rating 6/10 discarded'
Ha ha, thanks Ian. Yes, but that was just a coincidence!

Hi Tony great vid😊 which Lowepro backpack do you use ? Do you recommend it.. hope you have a nice weekend 😊 Pete
Thank you n22, yes it's a great, lightweight bag (9/10) - Lowepro Flipside BP 300 AW III - amzn.to/4gbwuRR

I know you only gave it 6/10 but thanks all the same for the shot of Porthcurno beach.

Thank you Bruce, yes each to his or her own I guess. I'm tempted with film, but I think square wouldn't suit my style anymore. Best wishes
@@tonyhowellcouk It is a new experience after decades of 35mm.

Yes, thank you Cgriggsiv, let's keep it real! Although I do saturate colours, because colours on print never look as good as real life.
Yes I'm with you. OK to remove and some light editing but adding and replacing sky etc. Is not for me
Thank you Mr CB, I agree and wish Adobe were more for real photography.
Hi Tony. I’m new here. What would you say is your “keeper” rate?
Hi Just, I'd say it's probably 35-50% or thereabouts.

... But how will we know if a photograph is real after all?
Great question Stephen. In competitions they ask to see the RAW file, so fakes can be dismissed.
@tonyhowellcouk I think we will be bombarded with 'real' images that are not. I guess that is probably already happening. Competitions aside it is already becoming frustrating.
@ Yes indeed Stephen, I guess we can only be true to ourselves.
AI, is taking away the ability to think and learn for ourselves, like mastering photography, it will all be done for us.
Yes, the younger ones are going to have to sort it all out!
