Light Painting Photo Guide - IT'S EASY TO DO!
Hi Tony, I tend to keep the polarizing filter on all the time. I add an ND filter on top of it when it’s required. Is there any circumstance that the polarizing filter impacts images negatively?
Don't leave it on, you're risking camera shake because it reduces light coming in. Only use it when you need to, see www.tonyhowell.co.uk/phototips.htm
Great idea and the photos are more vibrant. I’ll try to go out in a drizzle, not pouring though.
Yes drizzle's good, or after rain.
Hi Tony , the great video that great images can be made in the wet . I learned a lot from your videos about photography 👍
Thanks Steve, I'm glad you're benefitting.
Do you shoot uncompressed RAWS with the A7RV?
No R, I shoot Lossless Compressed Large. Works well for me.
Rain is great for busier locations. Keeps the people away. Lovely photos. Thanks for sharing. 👍😎
Thank you Foto, I really appreciate your comments!
Enjoyed this video very much, the colorful images too. The weather certainly isn't a good reason to stay in snug and warm... quite the opposite!
@@feetfirstspeks Thanks, and I totally agree
Awesome video!!! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you M!
Definitely wellies for that location. No umbrella?
Thanks David, two tripods and an umbrella too much for little old me!
Hi Tony!!! I enjoyed your video! I also have the a7r5, I use it not only for landscape but also for wildlife!!! At 10fps, it's amazing!!! I've gotten some amazing bird inflight photos, as well as bird portraits! New follower!!! I did wedding photography during the 1990s using medium format!!! It was a real workout!👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you M, great camera isn't it! You've been through a lot like me. Young people have no idea!
Great video, thanks! I go out in the rain too, everything is more vibrant & colorful & yes nobody is around, it's perfect! Keep on making wonderful videos, I appreciate it!❤️
Thanks Metis, I'm glad other people have discovered this fact about the wet; surprised it's not more well-known!
Well explained Tony, I must get out more in rainy weather you don’t no what you can find.👍
Thanks and yes, do Tony. I'm going off the idea of shooting in woodland unless it's wet (or misty).
Some lovely images, Tony. It was a downpour where I live and I stayed in... I feel guilty now! Thanks for taking us on your journey!
Thank you Dennis, I still don't like heavy rain, but afterwards....yes!
I concur with your pre shooting ideas. If I am thinking mono I walk around with my phone on b/w so I am seeing the world in monochrome. 👍📸
Thanks John, and yes that mono picture style helps a lot doesn't it.
Waterproof socks ... I must visit Tehidy to follow your example. Good stuff, Tony!
Thanks Peter, I've asked but no-one in Truro stocks waterproof socks!
Great stuff, Tony 👏🏻👏🏻 We have to deal with plenty of that wet weather in Autumn/Fall in New Hampshire in the states. I have gone many a camera trip in the rain until the white stuff starts falling. Great set of images.
Thanks Andy, good that you appreciate the wet weather, it can be good!
Great images, wet socks again, Tony 😂
Thanks, yes John, what is it with me and wellingtons?!
Wonderful....again!
Thank you Bill!
Amazing work. Love it!
Thank you Lenz!
Hi Tony, what camera settings do you use for ICM? Auto focus? Low ISO?
Yes Bing, low ISO with AF.
Enjoyed your video thanks for posting 👍
Thanks Ray, I appreciate your comments.
From very fond memories of 1970's Falmouth, thank you.
Thank you Mark.

@@Raykenn1 I can only see one comment!
Great video Tony I agree with you , don't be put off with dull grey skies, I've been doing some great autumn shoots this month , and the autumn shades , look more vibrant in grey diffuse light , than bright sunlight and blue skies.
@@anthonyireland6108 Thank you Anthony, I agree although I think Autumn looks better wet. Just got soaked in the rain, vlog coming soon!
Watched this again. Absolutely love your flowers. You could expand with more videos in more details. I prefer your photography style with minimal post-processing. It’s autumn/winter time. I would love to see your videos in studio for leaves/seeds and houseplants. Also your subscribers’ photo is brilliant. I started from iPhone photography for convenience and am happy to share with you if you accept the phone photo. I’m moving to the digital camera to explore ICM. You might revive your flower photography by adding the twist of ICM.
@@bing_shen_London Thanks Bing, so glad you like them. Yes, I’ll hopefully do another flowers one next year. And I’ll do an ICM one. Please send the phone photo, but I may not add it! Yes, buy a good camera, it’s fun!
Excellent video Tony, I have the A7RV also, I have subscribed and look forward to seeing more from you.
Thanks Dave, great camera isn't it!
wait a minute! what is that plate with a folding hinge on it I saw?
Yes Scott, it's made by Smallrig and I recommend it.
In my bucket list for next visit to Cornwall. Do you do photo stack or multiple exposure in camera or in photoshop?
Stunning! Of course I subscribe, like and comment. I really appreciate you show the shooting details. Keep going, I enjoy it.
Powerful video, I may take some video while travelling.
Thank you Bing!
Sorry for your loss, what a beautiful tribute!
Aw thanks Bing, she deserved a good tribute, she was a beautiful person 🥲
Interesting shots with different lenses.
Thanks Bing, glad you liked it!
Hello Tony. Really enjoyed this video and your relaxed presentation style. I'm very sorry for your loss. I went through the same a number of years back. Once I'd got past the worst of it, I made the mistake of not concentrating on my photography to lift my mind and distract me. So videos like yours are motivational for me. Looking forward to watching more!
So sorry to hear that FeetFirst, it's tough isn't it? Yes I find getting outside as much as possible so therapeutic.
I’ve been shooting with my Sony a6000 for 10years and steadily I have been building up my fe lenses finally this year I made my mind up I’m getting the A7r 5 then I came across OM Systems OM1 mk2 and the more I have investigated this system I’ve now changed my mind I think this camera system is for me there’s such a lot of computational things it can do also up to 8.5 stops for hand held shooting etc.
Sounds good Rhys, I've heard good things, I just don't like the 4:3 format; if you do then go for it!
A very nice video, I am a rookie photographer myself and so far I've only used my phone camera but I'll definitely be following this channel to learn things
Thank you Historelic, much appreciated. I'm trying to make my videos appeal to beginners and advanced.
I'm so pleased to find your channel and know you do flower photography as well as landscape and ICM. I'm a newbie and these are the genres I'm interested in. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise. How much editing do you do for these flower photos? Your tripod is so versatile, do you mind sharing the details?
Thank you Bing! I don't edit the flowers much at all. My tripod gear is all on this page - www.tonyhowell.co.uk/gear
@ thank you so much for your quick response. It’s good to know that you don’t edit flowers too much because I’m really puzzled by all the editing these days.
Beautiful photos as always and it's interesting to listen to you. We've been to Cornwall but not the north coast. Thank you for sharing the location and we'll definitely pay a visit sometimes.
Beautiful images, especially at the end.
I enjoy landscape and ICM. Pleased that you covered both in this video. Thank you for sharing everything. Hopefully, you’ll talk about lenses at some point.
Thanks Bing, I appreciate your comments. I will do something on lenses eventually.
I quite like the effect of zooming during exposure, I will definitely give it a go.
Thanks John, yes it can work well.
Thats NOT best😂
😅
I have Olympus EM1 MK1 that is right 👍🏾 now the best camera that i can afford 😅!!! I am 56 years. old just starting my photography journey!! Hopefully i get a decent tripod and good filter set for Christmas 🎁🎄!!! Photography helped me a lot when COVID started!! (Started with a point and shoot film camera) And I have been doing it since then!!! Found its good for for my mental well-being ! I am trying the woodlands photography and man trying to find composition is hard but i am learning 😂 thanks for all the tips I love the videos ! Thanks
@@taterandy3958 Thank you, that camera is fine, a decent tripod is much more important than filters in my opinion. Thanks for your comments and good luck with your photography!
@@taterandy3958 The only filters I use are a polarising filter (circular) and a 10-stop ND filter.
@@tonyhowellcouk oh okay then i have to look for instead....
Great video Tony. I had FF (a7iv) but have switched to an a6700 (apsc) and am blown away by how good it is
Thanks Puds, that's good to know. Might try that camera!
I hope you got out of the wood before dark! I had a chuckle about your film cameras, brought a few memories back. RB67, it was like carrying a breeze block around, but it was used in the studio for the most part. 35mm for outdoor work. Now I use Fuji less weight all round. The rear screen on the Sony was impressive. Keep shooting.
Crikey Iain, I thought the Bronica was bad but those RB67's weighed lots more! Which Fuji do you use?
@@tonyhowellcouk XT5, 16/80, 70/300 & a TT Artisans 25/2.8, all carried in a sling bag. Suits my purpose.
@@iaincphotography6051 Sounds like a great system, thanks.
One thing to takeaway from this film was ..."Shut the front door "....made me chuckle .
I don't normally say that Peter, it just came out, so I thought I'd leave it in!
Hi Tony , the Great video! I currently use two sets of gears. One is Nikon Z and the other is Fujifilm apsc. Fujifilm gears is lighter, and if there is no need to enlarge the photos, the Fujifilm gear is also very easy to use.
Thanks Steve, I think Fuji are great, I've owned several of their medium format film cameras and the GFX100, perhaps I'll try the APS-C next!
@@tonyhowellcouk Ok, it's lighter . You may try it . I am using Fujifilm XT3 now, you can try Fujifilm XT5 ( 40 megapixels). Thanks.
@@Steve_Xue Thank you.
Brilliant Tony, I’ve just purchased A7R5 and iam loving it, like you I come from using medium format cameras and developing my own film and prints, but what a weight to carry around. I love my landscape photography and you inspire me a lot, you have a great eye for photography your composition is spot on. Great video Tony
Thanks Tony, you won't look back with that superb camera!
I still remain unconvinced about ICM......but I do like Marmite! Great insights as always, Tony!
Thanks Bill, I appreciate that. To me, ICM is just another thing to do while waiting for some good light!
hello tony. you can have different settings for stills and video. go to toolbox in menu then #3 then different set for still/mv
Thank you Victor, I do use the #1, #2 and #3 so I really was just quibbling, I love this camera!
Great video Tony, thanks for sharing your thoughts on the A7R5 and some interesting techniques to try. Nice images too!
Thank you GW! Yes I was surprised at the zoom ones, I'll keep doing those.
