It’s been too long since I have taken specific flower pictures. I think it’s time to dig out the macro lens and have a go. Thank you for inspiring me again.
Watched this again. Absolutely love your flowers. You could expand with more videos in more details. I prefer your photography style with minimal post-processing. It’s autumn/winter time. I would love to see your videos in studio for leaves/seeds and houseplants. Also your subscribers’ photo is brilliant. I started from iPhone photography for convenience and am happy to share with you if you accept the phone photo. I’m moving to the digital camera to explore ICM. You might revive your flower photography by adding the twist of ICM.
@@bing_shen_London Thanks Bing, so glad you like them. Yes, I’ll hopefully do another flowers one next year. And I’ll do an ICM one. Please send the phone photo, but I may not add it! Yes, buy a good camera, it’s fun!
I take a couple of plastic pegs in my camera back to hold back any unwanted blooms etc. trouble is I sometimes forget them so our countryside might be dotted with them🤪
Shot some local tiny wild orchids last week. I was lying down in the grass with a mini tripod, shooting at f2 with my Helios 44 to try and capture some of the lens’s swirly bokeh. One or two shots were ok but need to go back and try to get a bit more depth of field. Of course then I will lose the big blur. It’s an awkward dilemma. Loved this video man. Have subscribed 👍📸
Thank you Jon; much appreciated! I often take several shots at different apertures so that I can choose the DOF from each image if necessary. Of course this is impossible if there's much wind.
Hi great photo ideas for flower photography! Some I know about and others I don't! I am shooting with the a7r5 as well!!! I love the photo stacking capabilities it has! Do you ever shoot with flash, or a led light??? New subscriber to your channel!!! I like your easy going style!!!👍👍👍
Thank you Marvin, it's a great camera isn't it! Thank you so much for subscribing. I don't have a flash (but have ideas for using one) and only use the LED light for doing Light Painting 🙂ruclips.net/video/Zf31rh6TCqI/видео.html
I'm so pleased to find your channel and know you do flower photography as well as landscape and ICM. I'm a newbie and these are the genres I'm interested in. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise. How much editing do you do for these flower photos? Your tripod is so versatile, do you mind sharing the details?
@ thank you so much for your quick response. It’s good to know that you don’t edit flowers too much because I’m really puzzled by all the editing these days.
Thank you Steve, much appreciated. I use the Sony 20-70mm and 100-400mm. I don't currently own a macro lens, but some of these flower images were taken with the Tamron 90mm macro a few years ago.
Thank you Ian; it's all about using native plants that seed themselves for me. So most of what you saw were Campion (I bought one plant but now have 70) Geum (I bought 3 but now have 30) and the Forget-me-nots I didn't even buy; they just appeared!
I like to take flower photo when I saw it. However, I started to take 3 seconds of dancing flowers short video of 4K 120FPS with DJI Pocket 3 and enjoy to see the dancing flowers in live.
@@tonyhowellcouk The current camera structure and lens are outdated and not suitable to take good video. Get yourself a DJI pcoket 3 for 4K 120FPS video. You would be amazed that it is so easy to take great video without any efforts. However, I would advise you to take video in normal color and find a counter fix to correct its AWB on purpose twist to get the color right.
@@tonyhowellcouk Did you use X265 format for 4K 120FPS which plays to 1/4 speed automatically? Also, I only shoot in natural color with fixed adjustment. OP3's LUT is absolutely terrible for true color video.
I found your video really good as I am just getting into flower photography. I have the same camera as you with the Sony 24-70mm f2.8ii and the Macro lens. I was trying to find out about focus stacking but it only does focus bracketing I have not tried it yet. Do you use a L bracket if so what one as its hard to find one for the camera. Thanks 😊
Thanks Angela, I use a Smallrig L bracket which is great. From eBay I think. Focus bracketing/stacking are the same thing. Just try it, although the Photoshop part is probably the most time-consuming!
Hi Tony. Excuse my ignorance. But photographing on the Lightbox. Is it turned on or off. I tried with a an autumn leaf. Lights on. I struggled with White Balance and images were soft even though focusing was telling me They should be pin sharp.
Yes Kevin, lights on always. If you shoot RAW you can simply alter the white balance later if necessary (I have my white balance set permanently to 5350K). Not sure why images would've been soft though; were you using a 2 second timer on a tripod?
Interesting video with some great results, thanks for sharing.
Thank you Neil, much appreciated.
A great collection of photographs, some of those inverted ones were excellent, thank you for the ideas.
Glad you like them Chris. Not everyone does but I certainly do. More here: - www.tonyhowell.co.uk/alteredflowerphotos.htm
Thank you, great photographs and very much appreciate you sharing your knowledge and skills.
Thank you Paul; much appreciated! 🙂
Oh wow, that huge Hellebore image in Japan is incredible, I’d love to walk into a building and see that
Yes I'd love to see it too, but it's a bit far!

Inspiring is what I aspire to. Now's the ideal time for flowers Ian!

That's a good idea Deborah. Perhaps only take wooden pegs though!
