    DISCLAIMERS ON FORMATS COVERED:
    Notice I said POPULAR formats, meaning a format where there is a significant amount of people who compete in it for tournaments and so on and so forth. Now Popular does not mean official even though two of the formats I will be covering were official formats being Japan Nintendo Cup and VGC, but it is an indicator of what a good portion of competitive players thought was “optimal” at the time. Also sometimes the Pokemon Battle Historia doesn't provide enough information to talk about certain Pokemon so I add Smogon analysis to make sense of it. This is pretty rare though.
    To the people asking why I don't cover Smogon Singles for Gens 1 and 2: It wouldn't really be a history video if I covered those because online Smogon gen 1 meta to my knowledge wasn't actually played until late 2000s. I wanted to cover tournaments/competitive battling that was actually played during the early years of Pokemon (late 90s).
    To the people asking why I cover Smogon at all for singles: To my knowledge, Smogon was the most popular format for Gens 3-5 and held a number of tournaments throughout the years. As for Gen 6, I am not covering Battle Spot Singles because there is more information and explanations about sets being used relative to their own meta on Smogon. In other words, there are few written analyses about Battle Spot Pokemon besides the Top tiers and I would like to avoid theorycrafting because it may have a hint of bias (though I theorycraft if I REALLY couldn't find information on a certain Pokemon). The keyword here is explanations. Though I did find statistics of most Pokemon used and most moves used, there wasn't really any explanations on why. Also the few Pokemon I did find analysis of for Top Tier Battle Spot Singles had very similar move sets to the Smogon OU sets anyway.
    For the record, I do not care what rules or formats people play their battles by nor am I saying these formats are the only formats that should be played. The way you play Pokemon is between you and your opponent and I will not fault you for using evasion or whatever, I just like examining popular tournament formats.

    Pikachu was freaking amazing in BW2 Ubers' metagame with Lightning Rod + Light Ball. All you had to do was put in Kyogre vs. Kyogre, predict that obvious Thunder, switch to Pikachu and OHKO Kyogre with Thunder, Groudon with Grass Knot and just wreck all kinds of havoc, most of the time, your Pikachu would be able to land huge hits on set-up sweepers too, as opponents wouldn't really pay mind to Pikachu's powers and think of it as an easy set-up, leaving pokemon like Rayquaza (HP Ice) and Arceus wide open. People just never really gave it enough thought... sad story

    Pikachu is actually pretty solid in tiers below UU, Light Ball is really good and it can learn icicle crash with the custom pikachu cosplays. Covering Ground and Grass. It is probably safer to set up sticky webs to assist Pikachu. But it can put in some work, at the very least it will deal massive damage or wallbreak something if used correctly. Just don't switch into an attack or it'll get run over, it faints at the nearest sneeze.

    Styling on people with Pikachu is very fun, no one can deny that. It actually has something that is good at, with Fake Out and Extreme Speed it has access to 120 total power uncontested damage against faster frailer mons coming off of 458 Attack with Light Ball. Ghosts wouldn't dream of switching in because of Knock Off and Volt Tackle. It obviously is minuscule niche and is not even remotely necessary but if you really want to use Pikachu, it can atleast do this much.

    • @volzuloof
      @volzuloof 6 лет назад +1

      That's understandable. I don't see the appeal, but chickens are pretty cool, also moltres is a chicken AND phoenix.
      I have to admit I do think combusken looks the best out of all of them. I think torchic kind of weird with no hands, and blazikens head and hair odd. I'm also slightly mad for taking the limelight if the others. Why does nobody pay attention to mudkip or grovyle?
      (I have weird taste in Pokemon)

    • @MrSpinachguy
      @MrSpinachguy 6 лет назад

      I always start with mudkip, but torchic is my real fav gen 3 starter. The mudkip line combines cuteness with power and HM utility that I think I had more fun with.
      I just think torchic is absolutely adorable. I was also surprised at how cool his gen 7 physical attack animation is... he sorta jumps and stomps, and then he runs back to his starting spot. At least that's what it looks like from the stats screen, I still need to get around to training it.
      Treecko is cool, but I always thought he was a little bland. But that's me, I appreciate weird pokemon.
