Hey Laura ! Gotta admit, as a long-time Civic guy, the HRV is growing on me. Thinking the AWD would come in handy up here in the NE. Got my current Civic about two more years. Hopefully Honda continues to refine the HRV.

Agree on rear seat room with both vehicles...
From a reliability standpoint the Honda would run circles around the Jeep. Consumer Reports is not kidding when they rate Chrysler vehicles low on reliability. Neighbors Dodge Journey had numerous issues, and I have seen a lot of friends struggling with subpar reliability across the board....Ram, Dodge, Chrysler, Fiat, Alfa Romeo...

Boxy is a note to Jeep heritage. After WWII they could not get regular automotive suppliers to stamp body panels, so they ordered body panels back in the late 1940's from a company that made washing machines for clothes. Jeeps have been boxy as a trademark ever since...
I think Laura does a good job about this comparison tests. A woman's perspective really helps especially buying a new car....

Honda does do interior layout really well...the Fit is extremely rational in its interior layout.

the jeep renegade back up camera comes standard on all trim levels
Nice comparison.. We wanted a manual transmission AND AWD (or Automatic 4 wheel drive as Jeep calls it), so that left out the HR-V. If you get a manual with the HR-V, it's only with FWD. But if you want an automatic, the Honda CVT is apparently much better than the Jeep's 9 speed auto. Was a bit worried about a fair comparison from a Honda dealer, but that was pretty good.. ;-)

I have the Jeep Renegade and love it, it really is Jeep worthy. I like the retro look of the Jeep far better then the Honda.

No comparison. Mopar (Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep) products fall apart within 40k miles. As we all know, Hondas last for a very long time.

Reliability standpoint proved long ago... Wouldn't buy anything else. 98 Prelude at 210,000 miles and my 91 Legend coupe with 225,000 miles. Both still very reliable after installing JDM rebuilt engines. Yes, Laura... they have CD players LOL :) :) :)
Jeeps never have and never will get decent gas mileage. What use is the 9 speed transmission that STILL gets crap for mileage??? lol

The jeep does come with power windows and locks. Also you can add a backup Camera for $195 and A/C and heated mirrors and alloy wheels for $2,000. So the Honda and the jeep don't have a big price difference.

No CD player? Really? I stopped using those in the noughties... it's 2016!
I hate the damn electronic break button and break release button. I think it's another way for them to make profit if something goes wrong. Especially if you break that button by accident. They should go to basic and pull the handle or press on the handle to lock the breaks. That my 2 cents on them.

I love the way they spank down the roof in the back on the Honda, nice looking vehicle. Would probably buy the Renegade as I would want the Jeep 4WD technology and I find the styling more unique. Would want a manual with 4wd...which would leave the Honda out. I feel guilty saying this, as I live in central Ohio and have known a lot of people who work at Honda Research and Development as well as on the line...but my vote would be Renegade.

Neat little touches on the Jeep with the Bigfoot on the outer trim of the glass. Jeep does have that off road heritage, but I would nvr own a Jeep. They are owned by Chrysler-Fiat, which have garbage reliability. I'd rather take the HRV. I care more about long-term Honda reliability and the much better fuel economy. And Laura, you are super-cute! #wifeymaterial

"The HR-V wins, by a long shot." Except in sales numbers, inclement weather driving, off road driving, off-line, top speed... I guess it wins in MPGS. I'm sure that's the "long shot" you speak of?
"There's no CD player." I hadn't noticed over the past year of ownership. I guess using my iPhone means I don't need to fiddle with CD's. Since it's a brand new model, I'm guessing no one wanted to waste time without dated tech?
Her review was awesome, your comments.... There's a reason SHE does the review. I drove the HR-V, Renegade, Mazda's entry.. It was nice of the sales person to wake me once we got done test driving the HR-V. The Mazda was so boring I don't even remember the name of it. They told me to take the Renegade home for a weekend test drive... a year ago. You do the math.
FYI, Renegade powertrain is not very good, #'s don't tell the story. I'll take the reliability of the Honda any day.

don't understand why you keep referring to the Honda interiors as modern. I would describe them as plain and minimalistic. it's one of the biggest drawbacks to the Japanese products. prefer the looks and interiors of the renegade and explorer but haven't test driven any of these 4 cars.
