Thankyou so much. Family lost the keys but now we can use the car again :) Had to turn the center bar inside the socket to get it to line up with the lock to insert, but not prob other than playing with the drill angle a bit. I used the a bit the same size as the pin on the new lock.
@@ricknorton1732 ok but the inner mechanism is still in the lock position. In order to get my new cylinder in I need that inner stem to be in the acc position. How do I go about doing this to get my new cylinder in?
Even with the right key, I couldn't get the ignition out, but your video gave me the solution to getting it out! It worked great...THANKS for posting your video!
Ok.thx 4video.however since i am not car mechanically inclined. Can someone share how much (generally speaking) this would cost to have done by mechanic?
It took me roughly 30 minutes. Generally, mechanics get paid for a minimum of one hour. Depending on where you live and the quality of you mechanic you are going to see you will pay $60 - $150 per hour. The part was about $40 with tax/shipping from RockAuto.(www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=1514190&cc=1767&jsn=889)
Paul Patt 5/32 but could probably use 1/4. You'll know how far to go when the ignition slides out. I wasn't worried about damaging the ignition since it was already not working.
You will have to replace the lock cylinder. I have no idea if there is a way to convert it to an auto start and I'm not sure you would want to because it would make your car easier to steal.
Seven Pounds I suppose you could, but I wouldn't leave it without a cylinder because it can be easily started with needle nose pliers or a screwdriver.
I a women trying to figure this out please be understanding sorry probably dumb question i lost my keys to my 99 Camry and I have the key door key. Once you pull the cylinder out you buy a new cylinder do those come with new keys?
If the proper key wont turn, once you gain access to the pin try tapping it inward while turning the key forward. You might get lucky with one more turn . Try this trick prior to drilling. Good luck.
Very carfully use a screwdriver to turn the igntion inside the hole it came out of. If you look at your ignition you will notice a brass pin that has a spring its about 3 inches long, that is how the ignition steering lock free's up. Im bad at explaining things but i hope it makes sense to you ;)
hey guys i figured it out. grab a pair of needle nose plyers, and grab the brass piece where the back of the ignition cylinder locks in place and simply turn it clockwise like your trying to start the car or move it to ACC. if its still not budging trying turning the steering wheel left or right and turning the piece at the same time. after a few wiggles it should work and youll here a click that lets you know its in accessory. double check by reconnecting your battery to see if radio is on. 🙌🙌

Some piece of garbage tried to steal my car last night and ruined my ignition cylinder. I'm going to do this right now, thank you!
Is this the same with vehicles that have transponders
You colda just filed one of them keys 🔑
I had to do exactly this same thing today. Took a while but worked great! Thanks!!!
How did you get the new cylinder in????
@@RoddyMyagi It just slides right in. easy breezy.....

@@RoddyMyagi Like in the video, I had to drill mine out.
@@RoddyMyagi I turned the tab with a needle nose pliers
Thank you so much for this. You just saved me and my girlfriend some money.

Great Video. What size drill bit (s) did you use ? How do you measure the correct depth ?

Thank you! Greatly appreciated.
Thanks for this video! The drill method worked.
More like 30mins to an hour depending on drill. Thank you
Thanks man u saved me hundred and hundred backs!
Awesome! Glad to hear it.

Okay, I've done all of this, but how do you get the new cylinder in? It won't just pop in because the spring button is stuck down when it's locked
Turn the new ignition to acc
@@RoddyMyagi Yeah, that never worked either. When the new one is at acc, it has the same problem because the innards won't line up.
I saw another video where the guy said he used needle nose pliers to align the innards with the new cylinder
98 camry has traponder or not
Sorry I don't know.
Thank you so much! Life saving video
I'm glad it helped!
thank you! you save me labour cost
So how u turn da car on tho
Once you put in the new cylinder lock with key it will turn. I think a new cylinder lock is $30.
I got mine for around 13 bucks with two keys
may want to look up auto jigglers, and "jiggle" the lock before drilling out.
stirring wheel is not locked..can I get a automatic start ..or do i have to replace the ignition lock cylinder? ?
please help me..
you could get it to start like that with a screwdriver that being you took the ignition lock out but its so easy to steal after that

Nice thanks bro💯💯

Steve Duncan yoooo!!!!! I just did this and it even got the cylinder working now!! Big ups bro!! I was stranded..
I lost my keys .I have a 2006 dodge stratus. .I only eave the key to unlock the doors..not to turn it on..
Thanks for the help
Does this unlock the steering wheel?
Thomas Zarate Yes. Once the cylinder is removed the steering wheel will unlock.
Thanks for posting!!
how the fuck do u put it bak wihout the key
Junior Pineda thats what im wondering
You use a screw to replace the pin that was drilled. Preferably a small drywall screw
Prairie Bilton we want to know how do we put the new cylinder in with no key??? the wheel is in locked mode but installation requires acc mode.
