Bill Kang thanks Bill. Pitch and mod wheel feel very sturdy, good resistance on the Panorama T4. I didn’t go into much Custom settings in the video but there are tons of ways to charge curves and params. In this video I was using Nektarine beta version which has 4 slots for send effects so I guess version 2.0 will feature that. What keyboard are you using now Bill?
Mattias Holmgren I’m using arturia Keystep mk2 49. Which is great but it’s my friends. I love how it integrates with ableton and arturia keylab software but I need it to do more. I don’t have any modular gear so I don’t need cv outputs. I’m pretty sold on the T6!!!
Nice review, I got the P6 for several years and I am still impressed, combination of Bitwig (best daw ever), a launchpad and Nektar T or P series is awesome.
Couldn't agree more Jason! Indeed the P6 is a beast. Although I had some issues with the motorized fader, but Nektartech was kind to send me a replacement board for the fader. The T4 feels very sturdy and I like these pads more than on the older P6. Bitwig Studio rocks!
I have been using DAW's since almost the dawn of the DAW and Bitwig is the BEST I've ever used. I tried ableton back at ableton 4 and just didn't feel it. Bitwig is hands down the best. Renoise is a TON of fun and even just dabbling with audio trackers will enhance your DAW and workflow IQ a lot even if you don't master it. can you explain how you integrate launchpad into your workflow? I make jungle and dnb. not sure if launchpad will benefit me
Thanks, Mattias for this great Video. My old trustworthy Komplete Kontrol S61 recently broke and I'm switching from Cubase to Bitwig right now. After two weeks of studying Bitwig, I can crank out tracks as fast as with Cubase (I'm a Cubase user from version 1). The Bitwig workflow works like a charm. I've already ordered the T6 and look forward to increasing my production speed. If you do music for licensing time is very valuable. Again, thanks a lot for this Video.
Hey Rolf, thanks! Happy to hear u like my clip. yeah, the tools of Bitwig makes music production quick and easy. Love it! Hope you’ll like the T6. I only have the T4 but the P6 was awesome. Now Im mostly using the Summit, KK S61 mk2 or the really small and tight Keystep 37. I want a clean and tight desk to work on. 😂🥁🎸
Looks like a good balance between price and quality. Definitely better quality than what I'm using now. The keys look quality. Beautiful scenery at the end too.
Hi, thanks. Yes I really think Nektar Panorama T4 has a solid design and feel. The functions and layout feel well thought through. I really like P6 and T4 actually has some stuff which is improve. Like the pads and The feel of some Buttons. Thanks the final scenary is from my local Ocean view. Most ice is gone now though. Spring time! Thanks for writing!
Hey, just bought the aura yesterday, spent around 30 mins on it with bitwig and was blown away buy it. Can't wait to spend more time on it getting to know it
Oh yeah, what's your impression on the Aura integration with Bitwig? I'm looking forward to dig into the Aura as I'm a big fan of the Maschine HW / software combo. Especially the Maschine Jam has been awesome with Bitwig Studio. Thanks!
@@MattiasHolmgren i love it. Especially as it integrates really well with battery 4 also. There's a lot to learn right now and im in the process of buying a house next week so haven't had much time with it. It can scan all Ur plugins and then you can built kits and presets all within the nektarine software which i find is really exciting. Inegration is really good with battery and tbh i prefer to user this than my push 2 controller
Today we look at the Panorama T4 controller keyboard from Nektar Tech. I show how well this keyboard integrates with Bitwig Studio. Learn how to use the Panorama T4 with Bitwig. Furthermore we briefly look at the Nektarine plugin which makes the integration tighter with your favourit vst- / au-plugins and effects. Mattias Holmgren how did you break the P6? Bitwig has been giving Nektar problems with access for the P series, and if you look at the Controller drop down, the P series isn’t even there.
Neon P Lotus I moved it around the studio and forgot that the USB cable was attached. And once I was too uncareful and ripped it too hard and the USB socket in the P6 was damaged. When I fired it up,after that it smelled of burned components. So I probably fried it. We learn the hard way... The new screens of the T series feel much better though I miss the motorized fader.
Mattias Holmgren I can live without the motorized fader, and wish they would just use touch for all the faders they have included. I also think the screen and menus could be better. But what really bothers me, is there is no profile for the Panorma P series in bitwig at all. Not even the P1.
Hi Khushal, good to hear from you. Hope all is well. Sure thing I will prepare a video showing how clip launching / looping works with the T4 / Bitwig. Thanks for writing Khushal. 😄
@@MattiasHolmgren I really hope they don't release anything new anytime soon. I'm saving up for a lx49 and I know it's like, 6 years old. But true. They are made very well.
Very awesome when u showed the fade mix of the different plugins (massive and zebra2). Also, we need a longer footage of some nature footage like you did in the end (4k!!!). With some nice composition played!
Hi Elrinth, yeah it's really easy to make instrument layers with this keyboard (in combo with Nektarine) the T4 keyboard also supports the instrument layer device of Bitwig so you can also add instrument layers directly in Bitwig (maybe I'll show that in the next video). Oh yes, I did shoot tons of video with the Sony a6400 out at the sea yesterday. Very nice image. Clear sky, calm waters, beautiful clouds. A tad of ice. ;) What DAW, plugins & keyboards are you using atm bro?
Hey Mat... Great vid! 👍🏽 I must say, the few mins used talking about nektarine solved so much problem for me than most vids I've seen on here. Succinct stuff! I'd so much appreciate if you could do a vid majorly on nektarine, covering all the areas you know. I've got the panorama t6 and I'd love to work more on Nektarine since it's more like mainstage for PC users. It's a big ask, but you'd definitely be helping more like me out there. Would be expecting your response. Thanks Mattias!
Hi Ayo, i will consider making an indepth video on Nektarine. But since I wasn’t too comfy with the keys on the T4 it’s not been used much. Happy to hear you got inspired by my video on the Panorama T4 and Nektarine. 🥁🥳🎻☕️
Thanks, hmm hard choice the T4 has nice features but I feel the keys and their response wasn't that good for playing piano pieces. I would suggest looking at Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol A61. I have the S61 mk2 and it has a lovely keybed.
Oh, nice, many thanks for this review, Mattias! Very interesting and informative, as always, but today the topic is so close to me :) We used to discuss it from time to time, how it differs to work with the project right using computer native controls or using some piece of external controller and hardware. I'm more to the former approach of just sitting behind the monitor, but yes, still I seem to be always in search of something more "creative" way of entering ideas :) And I actually put an eye on Nektar production, there's quite a range of different keys, so yes, it was especially useful for me to see your video. Special thank you for showing the whole part of working process here in details, that's always important to see. Honestly, I still don't think it's easier or faster to control the settings from the keyboard, but on the other hand it looks comparable to switching presets on the modern hardware synths, so I clearly felt this hardware synth smell from the video, haha) I think, when you're in the middle of improvising something and ideas just go, it's more natural to call the control part of the keys than to turn to mouse. Nektarine seems to be a little workaround-y, to be more native to all these different instruments, but, yes, given the user have the supported OS and it works fine and optimized, it's probably just a little problem. Having tried this keyboard for some time and even shot this video, would you consider it as a replacement of your mini32 for just a "third hand" work (I also use it this way, my little palette :)) or rather an additional instrument? Do you think it's more useful now to have an additional keyboard for more creative tasks or something hybrid like Seaboard? Thank you very much again for this beautiful video, Mattias! Hope you're fine during these times and it little affected your lifestyle. I've been working remotely for several years already, so nothing particularly changed for me so far, but yes, hopefully it would get back to normal business soon) Anyway, let the inspiration and fresh creative ideas be with you, even at home! Have a productive week!
Yeah I am always on the look out to see if I can find something to enhance the experience. While it does take a little time to get used to a new controller instrument it can indeed feel more inspiring. Its not necessarily making things faster. Dragging / dropping samples in Bitwig / FL is still the fastest way to work... Lol. But I think the handson workstation kind of feel you get with something like the. Nektar Panorama T4 is very rewarding and a joy to play with. Its not a replacement for my Keystation Mini 32 which is a work horse during my videos. I would to find something in the same size and its very hard. 😋 But the T4 will be in my Bitwig controller Arsenal when I work on tracks "off the camera" so to speak. The Komplete Kontrol is also still used a lot when I work with NKS instruments. We are Lucky to have remote work in these times Alexey. I am also working on a remote educational system so thats also in line with whats needed at this time. I feel sorry for people working as touring musicians, restaurants, travel etc. Its just a mess... Hope scientists will find a vaccin shortly. Thanks for writing Alexey!
@@MattiasHolmgren Thank you for detailed replay, Mattias! Yes, indeed, you're probably right, hands-on feeling is just independent factor of the speed of working. So as the size =) Absolutely agree with you - I'd also like to get something feature-full in the size of mini32, there're some interesting models I saw from AKAI and Nektar, but not attractive enough to replace something proved to work fine) It's always hard to give up from the thing still working fine for you, so uncomfortable for me. Yes, nice, that you have the option of remote work, too! Seems that the whole sectors of economy change these days, hard to say for sure, what it would be after it's finished. But yes, we can just hope to see it passed by soon.
Hi Mattias ! Thank you for this video, excellent and very informative as always. I actually own the T6 for about a year now and I actually learned some new things from this video. Especially for Nektarine, I couldn't quite grasp it before. By the way with this controller you also get a Bitwig 8-track license, which is great ! Have you seen Nektar latest controller called Aura, it looks awesome ! Have a great week.
Oh yeah, there are so many small features with the Panorama series of keyboards. And I couldn't possible cover them all in this video either. Glad you found a few new features usable. ;) Yeah, I really can't wait to try out the Aura Beat Composer. I played with it for a sec at NAMM 2020, and I'm a big fan of Maschine mk3 so it's definitely something we will cover in the channel in the future. I never tried Bitwig Studio 8-track since I own the full version, but it's indeed a VERY nice addition to the package. Thanks for writing.
@@MattiasHolmgren another interesting functionality of this controller is that you can create a remote page with the name 'env'. Then add any mappings you like to that page. Then if you go to instrument mode, and press the Env button under Fader 4 you can control those parameters (which you added on the remote page) using the faders.
Thanks for tutorial. Just subscribed. Getting mine next week. Was considering an NI s49 to pair with my Machine MK1 but wanted to try something new and I’ve heard with the right steps you can integrate kontakt in pretty seamlessly. I just saw so many issues with the Fatar Keybed(despite its positives) that I needed an in between keyboard until I try it.
Good point. Thanks for your response! I ended up purchasing this keyboard. I am hopefully getting an M1 Mac soon. Have you tried bitwig or Nektarine on yours? I saw you had another video saying the M1 had plenty of power for modern music production so I was curious your experience. Some stuff I’ve seen recommends getting Rosetta for best results.
Old video, but Mattias, which do you think is better for controlling Bitwig and 3rd party plugins - the P4/6 or the T4/6? Or what about the Native Instruments S61? I've got the Impact LX 49+ and i'm looking to upgrade. Thanks.
The Komplete Kontrol S61 has a lovely keybed and the bundled plugin suit and ease of control via Komplete Kontrol plugin is awesome, especially if you like using Ni plugins. It also has normal midi CC pages so you can quickly control other stuff. What functionality of Bitwig are you after controlling primarily? The macro pages? P6 and T4 has excellent integration with Bitwig. I don’t use Nektarine (bundled software for T4) much, but it has pre-setup parameters for tons of third party plugins / instruments.
As you probably see in most of my videos I mostly use a Arturia Keystep 37 because of its form factor. 😄 I feel most of the time its the quickest solution to work on ideas.
@@MattiasHolmgren Thanks for the reply. I mostly use my Nektar LX49+ to control the transport, mixer and plugins. I don't like the keybed though. It's not accurate.
Cool ! So this has a chord/scale function? Can a i set a scale like Cm and with one key play chords from that scale ? Or how the scale function works ?
Great demo. Is the T4 natively supported by Bitwig or are you basically setting up a Mackie protocol controller? Because there is no specific T4 controller script in Bitwig.
Hi Wilmar! It's been a while since I used the T4, but did you install the "Panorama_Bitwig_Support" file? It should make the Panorama T4 get detected when you click "detect devices" in Bitwig if I recall correclty.
@@MattiasHolmgren Thanks! I don’t own a T4 yet. Neither do I own Bitwig yet. But I played with a Bitwig demo last week and I’m very happy with the workflow. I’m an Ableton 11 with Push 2 user. But I use arrangement view more than Session view. And having a real mix screen and an Arranger that’s protools-like together with a more flexible screenlayout made that I’m considering to switch so I’m gathering information all over the internet.
Hi, Thanks for your videos. I tried to follow your step to import plugins into the Nektarine. but after importing them plugins don't appear in the list or i don't see them anywhere. Why it happens? Thanks
Hi Adson, happy to hear you enjoy my videos and content. Yes T4 & T6 pads can indeed be used for triggering clips (looping) and launching scenes. Just press MENU / SETUP and activate Clips or Scenes. Grey pads = empty slot. Yellow-pad slot has a clip. Green pad is playing or ready to start playing. Red pad is playing or ready to play and record input from the Panorama keyboard. There is a manual attached to the Bitwig zip package from Nektartech with great instructions on how the Panorama works with Bitwig. Give it a spin! So yes, the pads can indeed be used for clip launching / looping. Thanks for writing Adson!
@@MattiasHolmgren thanks a lot man, definetly I'll try it. I've been having a hard time trying to learn how to do the looping, the rhythm is kinda slow when it plays the recorded looping, and sometimes it eats some notes.
Hi Mattias, thanks for all your hard work with this series! Would you happen to know if the T series supports Bitwig Studio 5? I see very clearly on the Nektar site that the P series supports BWS 5, but I didn't find a distinct mention of the T series. Thanks in advance!
Hi Dan, I don't see there would be any big diff from BW 4 to 5 for the T series keyboards. What do you feel could make it "not work as expected"? I can ask my contact at Nektar about it.
@@MattiasHolmgren Matthias, thanks so much for the reply (and all your work here; it really is appreciated!) I did get back an answer from Nektar and was informed that they had uploaded a file for the Panorama T series and Bitwig 5. So (if you will,) all is right with the world (so to speak.) 😃
Hmm I dont know. I dont think Nektarine have a chord / Arp function. But you can use what your DAW provides in midi functionality (arpeggiators, chord stack etc.)
Hi Mattias, I have Panorama P1, with latest Bitwig firmware update on 08/2020. So..., I have a problem with premapped FX VST plugins as (Waves FX plugins, FabFilter Fx plugins, Steven Slate plugins etc) - they all arent premapped, Besides of VSTi instrumens - that are doing well (checked with Sylenth1, Serum, Massive, FM8, FabFilter one, etc. - the are premapped perfectly!). Do you have same issues with premapping of VST FX plugins on Panorama hardware ?
Hi Sergey, my P6 doesn't work anymore and I recently threw it to the trash because I couldn't spend time repairing the unit. I've got other keyboards to replace it now. I do use the T4 sometimes, but I don't really use Nektarine software because I found it bulky and not so intuitive in it's design. NI did a better job with the Komplete Kontrol software.
fantastic video, I'm thinking of buying a controller, and I had thought about the nektar panorama T6, would you recommend it to work orchestral music and audiovisual music? Thank you.
Hi Jose, I would rather recommend something like the Komplete Kontrol S61 for its neat NKS system which is supported by most plugins (orchestral software) etc. T series has not the best keys IMO. KK feels much bettet for playing dynamic delicate pieces. T6 has nice controls but I feel in the end you really want a good solid keybed. What do you think? Did you consider other controllers? Thanks for the kind feedback!☀️🦊🍿
@@MattiasHolmgren native instruments s61 also has keyboard semiweight, what diferente there are un both? So... Do you choise m audio oxygen pro 61 ir nektar panorama t6? I have seen that both have the dame keyboard. Thanks.
Thanks so much for this in-depth review, it's definitely helping me in considering what I'd buy for a keyboard upgrade! I've got a question though about the soft takeover mode. I noticed that the soft takeover works in Mixer Mode, and also Multi Mode for the multiple instruments' volumes. But does soft takeover work in Internal Mode, as well? Like if you're using the faders through MIDI Learn on a plug-in effect (such as for ADSR), does soft-takeover still work, or would the values jump? Thank you so much again!
Hi Iris, before we continue, what are you mainly looking for in a midi keyboard? A great keybed or great controls. I feel that the controls (knobs / faders) of the T4 (and Nektar products in general) are VERY good. But the keybed on the T4 is not very good, especially not for piano playing. The velocity sensitivity is all over the place when I try to play from soft to hard on delicate piano pieces. It's a pity, the Panorama P6 had much better keybed, it was super fun to play. I mainly use the small Arturia Keystep 37 above the T4, and also a Komplete Kontrol S61 for piano / big string parts. KK has a nice Fatar keybed IMHO. But it all depends on what you are looking for in the controller. Also considering pricepoint / budget. Regarding soft-takeover I don't have a clue since I didn't use the T4 for many days due to the issue with the keybed. Sorry.
@@MattiasHolmgren Hi Mattias! Thank you so much for your reply! I'd say that I'm looking for some great controls (knobs/faders) to really get into sound design and controlling the parameters of my VST instrument plugins. Regarding the keybed, I prefer a synth-action keybed. I know that the Panorama T series is being advertised as a "2nd generation synth-action" keyboard. Would you say that the keybed is more along the lines of a synth-action keyboard, or semi-weighted? Or somewhere in the middle?
good day Mattias I have thought to buy a new midi controller, I would like to know if the Komplete Kontrol m32 works well with "Bitwig". Is it worth buying for Bitwig? I also like the "Panorama T4" but I'm thinking of something 32-key for convenience and workflow with my laptop. What do you recommend me? I am always attentive to your Bitwig videos. my instrumentals are created in Bitwig.
Goodmorgning, Komplete Kontrol M32 is made for and integrates best with NI NKS compatible plugins and environment. While the T4 integrates better with Bitwig Studio. As always you can always map controllers CC yourself (M32) but its not nearly as convenient as using a dedicated controller script like you get with T4 for Bitwig. Though I think the format of the M32 is better suited... Its smaller for a laptop setup obviously. If you want instant Bitwig control go with the T4. If you don't mind mapping things yourself and want a smaller setup go with M32. For laptop and clean small setup I would go with a Keystation Mini mk3. Hehe, thats what I use in all the videos (well I have the older mk2 buyt anyway) its super sleek with a laptop. You dont get all the CC knobs, only one. But for playing melodies, basslines etc its all fun. Then get a bigger keyboard for the more elaborate and big piano pieces. Ok, hope u got some useful tips. And I hope you find what you are searching for my friend. Cheers! 🌞
Your videos are awesome! This keyboard looks great. Getting my first keyboard for controlling Bitwig, on a budget of €150 - which would you recommend? Thanks!
Hey Stefan thanks! I am using an Arturia Keystep 37 in my tight music / video making setup and its perfect. Has enough controls and decent keybed. But I prefer a bigger and more delicate keybed for piano playing. Like the bigger MAudiokeyboards or the Komplete Kontrol S61 mk2. Hope the info helps. 🌞🦊
Hi Mattias, do you have to use Nektarine to control Raum ? Base on video I have same equipment but my CPU can't handle smoth workflow with Nektarine like yours
Hi Igor, indeed I can use the Nektarine to control Raum. My main computer is brand new I9 4Ghz with tons of RAM. But you should be able to handle quite a few instruments with Nektarine anyway on a laptop. Actually I did use the T4 with my Mac Book Pro 15" 2016 and it worked out well. Write to NektarTech support if you are having issues. Thanks for writing Igor! See you soon!
@@MattiasHolmgren thanks Mattias, I realized that with P series I have EQ and channel strip as default on display buttons on the other side T series is more performance oriented and when I installed Nektarine it compensated lack of EQ and stip and I'm really happy with T4...😃 Actually Nektarine blow my mind
Hi, I previously bought Nektars flagship keyboard, the Panorama P6. Which I really enjoyed until it broke on me. I wasn't careful when moving it around with the USB cable still connected. 😪😋 After meeting Nektar at NAMM they sent me the Panorama T4. So yes, this controller was given to me from Nektar. It has a few improved things. Like better pads. But the P6 had more options / Buttons. Especially in use with Bitwig. But I think the T4 has great integration with Bitwig too. I still think the Komplete Kontrol S61 has better screens (obviously) and keybed feel (Fatar) but its a more expensive midi controller. As mentioned in the video I think the Nektarine software needs a bit more usability love so we dont have to search to bring in (import) basic patches. I wish the new midi 2.0 standard is around the corner which will improve usability tenfold. 🌞
Hi Ted. The keys do have a small clack when the keys return to their restingplace. I find the Axiom Air 61 has the most pleasant key sound. But I don't think it's manufactured anymore, and it was flaw at other places (in the endless rotary encorders, screen etc.).
Hi, I think the new Nektarine software is nice, and the pads on the T4 feels better than on the P6. T4 lacks the sequencing which P6 could do. I really liked the P6, but I feel the T4 can handle all things I had going when using the P6. I don't really miss the motorized fader either. The key bed felt a tad nicer on the P6 if I recall correctly. I threw it away some while back since it was broken.
So you have to individually load EACH patch sound for every plugin before you can use them? In FL Studio there are literally +5,000's sounds to try out. Does this mean I'd have to go through that process +5,000 times just to hear them???
Thanks for writing Dan. If the instrument is not prepared for nektarine you need to manually add the presets into the database. Unfortunately, there is no magical way to fetch the instrument presets (meta data) to the Nekarine library. But I wouldn't personally add all the synth patches from the whole core library of a DAW (like FL, Logic, Bitwig or whatever) into this software. Just to be able to control some of them from the T4. T4 can still do regular midi cc controlling. And you don't need this kind of hands on control on every instrument. I think NI did a great thing of making the NKS standard. Many plugin instrument (vst) developers have adopted to this and that means those plugins work out of the box directly with any NKS compatible hardware controller, like Komplete Kontrol, Maschine etc. I think it's a decent move / solution. BUT, unfortunately, it left out other instrument developers (like Nektar, Arturia etc.) So they all have to make their own instrument wrappers like (Nektarine) etc. And we as clients don't want to be forced to use 111 different wrappers just to be able to control the plugin instruments we bought with our brand new midi controllers. IMO it's a little weird situation and it seems NI won the race so far with NKS. As we see most developers adopt to this NKS standard. Thanks Dan.
Hi, no I don't feel the Nektar T4 is in par with the Komplete Kontrol S61 keyboard. That said, Komplete Kontrol is also more expensive. If you play piano (like me) the keybed on the T4 will feel a bit weird in the dynamics. It's not good for playing piano pieces. But it has nice onboard controls. Nektarine software is also steps below NI Komplete Kontrol software. A big plus of the Komplete Kontrol is that it's NKS compatible which is has become standard in the sample library / plugin industry. I find myself using the Komplete kontrol S61 or the Axiom Air 61 much more often. Thanks.
Hello and thank you for this tour. I was considering a Panorama P version, but you said yours broke... what happened?? I see quite some offers of reconditioned models so it seems there is something going on. What do you think about it? I was sold for the number of controllers and the screen.
P6 was a dream keyboard, too good to be true. I loved it. But yes something can be fishy about it. The motorized fader broke down first on my Nektar Panorama P6. Nektar sent me a new circuit board but I never replaced it (too buys to do deeper electronics these days). I moved the P6 around so much that one time I forgot to unplug the USB cable and I somehow stretched it and probably broke some pin on the connector and it started to smell burnt. ;) I guess some part in the USB device of the P6 got fried. It could probably be fixed but....time.. So I sent it to the scrapyard some months ago. Again, I loved my P6 but the Komplete Kontrol S61 is my new alternative, since I also use alot of NI software, Maschines, Jam etc. The screens on the Komplete Kontrol are better too. The T4 is working fine here, but it's not as sleek as the P6 was. I loved the white design too. Unbeated in my eyes.
@@MattiasHolmgren thanks for all that precision. Indeed getting the guarantee to work would have been better maybe? Compared to Kontrol, Nektar offers MORE kontrol that is why I find NI's name a little overdone. I'd buy one if they offered 16 controllers instead of 8.... (or can you switch "bank" and control 16 of them?? but 8 at the same time? that would be nice) Me too I liked the P6 design but it was in your video I saw how shiny it was! Too much for me... it leaves finger traces I read elsewhere. Very difficult these days to find the right thing. I use komplete 12 and mostly granular based things from Reaktor and I'd like to control every parameter with knobs or sliders for sound design. I like the Arturia's as well with their white housing, but the display is too minimal. Novation SL might be better than NI's Kontrol as they offer sliders to get to 16 controles, but they are expensive and too much Live based. I'm on reaper... I spend too much time hesitating and comparing instead of making sounds! But thanks again for your feedback, you have an excellent channel with high quality video.
@@duuster-audio thanks Antonius. Yeah I hear you. We all spend too much time considering what to buy rather than making music with what we have. Which is MORE than enough. There is no perfect midi keyboard in my eyes. The only close to perfect keyboard I ever owned was the Yamaha EX-5. Axiom Air 61 have the best keybed I ever played on a modern midi controller. But it's software is crippled and it was among the first with endless rotary encoders...and they worked...not so good. But the keybed...mmm good stuff! Glad you enjoy my videos. Have a superb weekend!
@@MattiasHolmgren ha ha well, in my case it might just not be enough, I only have my old Roland xp-50 with 2 control sliders and the display doesn't show anymore... so it is the time of the year, but also in my life, to update/upgrade. I just thought now that the display could be on the computer as well, not necessarily on the controller. But then I would need to be able to see it while my plugin, for instance Form, is open too. Let's say I choose the Arturia Minilab mk2, great 16 controls! I don't need much keys since I mostly do sound design and no melodies/harmonies. The controller seems great for their Lab synths, but how about 3rd party vsts ? Would I be able to see Form and the control changes while at the same time seeing the Minilab interface with the knobs for which I could label myself the names?? If that would be possible it could be a solution. I don't know if their, or any other brand, does this. Do you understand? You certainly have more experience. Sorry for all the questions but you might be the person who actually knows about this and stays neutral.
@@duuster-audio I don't own any Arturia gear atm. but if you got their Analog Labs (or whatever) software open on the computer you can definitely see what knob is attached to what parameter (and you can probably rename them). Logic Pro has this feature built in automatically with the "smart controls" which shows you 8 knobs on screen. And you can rename them etc. T4 comes with Nektarine software and that's basically the same as Arturias software. One huge upside of using Kontrol S keyboards is obviously NKS. Which means most soft developers already mapped their plugins for you so you can see those params on screen instantly. Nektar (Nektarine) have done some mapping (quite a few selection of instruments) for you. But it's not all instruments out there. But at least with Nektarine you can rename the knobs to whatever you like in a patch. ;) NKS has much broader cover since it's become like industry standard. I understand you want knobs to tweak rather than keys. T4 isn't an expensive keyboard and has 8 knobs, 9 faders and Nektarine. Maybe that would work for you? Thanks.
Hello thanks for the vid , i want to ask you if u still consider T4 as best midi keyboard conectivity still for Bitwig ... or if there is a better one now
Hi Ricardo, yeah it's been a while. I still believe Nektar Tech has one of the best integrations with Bitwig Studio. But the keybed on the T4 is not as good as the keybed on the Panorama P6 (but that keyboard died on me, so I can't really recommend it). I now use an Arturia Keystep 37 for my general music prod work, and when I need a larger keyboard I use the Komplete Kontrol S61 or the more recent Novation Summit which I bought a few weeks back. What softwares / plugins / vsti are you using besides Bitwig Ricardo?
@@MattiasHolmgren Hi thanks for your answer Matt ....i use fab filters , valhallas , waves , baby audio etc . So am at this moment deciding which midi controller will fit bitwig and vsts .
Mattias Holmgren that would be awesome, ive been researching midi keyboards for months now and its a jungle. I wanted something that integrates as good as possible in Logic (wich Im learning now) and also has, velocity, aftertouch and good keys... the T4/6 seems to fit me the best. But i cant find any videos showing it with Logic. Also, nektarine seems like a very powerfull thing to have in Logic.
Aight this is a bitch to set up not gonna lie. Still got more setting up to do with ableton. Nektarine is amazing though. It feels like i’m controlling the actual knobs and that the sounds are really inside of the keyboard
Hi David, yes, indeed it takes us back to the quick responsiveness of working with a workstation keyboard. ;) Like the Yamaha EX5, Triton or whatever. I really miss that quick responsiveness of calling up sounds in a heartbeat. But I wouldn't go back. As we have much more overall power these days and can have so much more amazing sounds...Omnisphere 2. ;D
Great review! Definitely made me consider it for my next keyboard.
How’s the pitch and mod wheels?
Any idea on when Nektarine will control fx?
Bill Kang thanks Bill. Pitch and mod wheel feel very sturdy, good resistance on the Panorama T4. I didn’t go into much Custom settings in the video but there are tons of ways to charge curves and params. In this video I was using Nektarine beta version which has 4 slots for send effects so I guess version 2.0 will feature that. What keyboard are you using now Bill?
Mattias Holmgren
I’m using arturia Keystep mk2 49. Which is great but it’s my friends. I love how it integrates with ableton and arturia keylab software but I need it to do more. I don’t have any modular gear so I don’t need cv outputs. I’m pretty sold on the T6!!!
Wow! This is very complete coverage of what this controller can do. Thank you! 🎉
You are so welcome. Glad u enjoy my brekdown of the T4! 👌🥳
@@MattiasHolmgren Hey Mattias,
I have been using DAW's since almost the dawn of the DAW and Bitwig is the BEST I've ever used. I make jungle and dnb. not sure if launchpad will benefit me
so good that nektar company is listing bitwig on their homepage with a documentation !!
Documentation? :) yeah its a neat integration T4 / Bitwig.
Reason user here, and I would so love it if Nektar could make keyboards less noisy.
ok, you find them too noisy on the keys?
@@housebrigade Do you need an specific script to get it working inside bitwig?

Thanks, super cool. Cau you please show something more on pads, in what various ways the pads can be used
Hi Khushal, good to hear from you. Hope all is well. Sure thing I will prepare a video showing how clip launching / looping works with the T4 / Bitwig. Thanks for writing Khushal. 😄
Most underrated midi controller of all time.
Nektar always include deep DAW functionality control, especially for Bitwig.
@@MattiasHolmgren All right.
Thanks
can you do the zooming on the P4 version of the Panorama? Which do you think has more functionality
I have no idea what they can do these days, I don't have the Panorama since quite some time. Check Nektar Tech website. Hope you get the info!
Great review but I'm stuck on which to buy between the nectar panorama t4 and the m audio oxygen pro 49... Can someone help me here ASAP pls
Very interesting and informative, as always, but today the topic is so close to me :)
We used to discuss it from time to time, how it differs to work with the project right using computer native controls or using some piece of external controller and hardware.
But the T4 will be in my Bitwig controller Arsenal when I work on tracks "off the camera" so to speak.
Hi Matthias
I'm not sure if the question has been answered. In any case, I have not seen anything. How well can Ableton Live be controlled?
I didnt try it with Ableton yet. Sorry. But I guess it would work fine for basic functionality and attaching / learning CC to use the knobs etc.
The mini version is the shit, quite impressed with nektar.
How is the keybed?
Thanks for tutorial. Just subscribed. Getting mine next week. Was considering an NI s49 to pair with my Machine MK1 but wanted to try something new and I’ve heard with the right steps you can integrate kontakt in pretty seamlessly. I just saw so many issues with the Fatar Keybed(despite its positives) that I needed an in between keyboard until I try it.
Yeah the Nektar is pretty good value for price. With tons of awesome features for tweaking. 👌💪🎉
I have the Fatar keybed in quite a few keyboards. And on my units it has worked fine. But there are always ”monday units”
Yeah Bitwig has a great layout design and UI/UX. And the dual monitor setups and variations are excellent!
How does it work with ableton?
Hi, Thanks for your videos. I tried to follow your step to import plugins into the Nektarine. but after importing them plugins don't appear in the list or i don't see them anywhere. Why it happens? Thanks
Nektat panorama t4 vs Nektar Impact LX61+ ???
Your reviews are amazing, I'll subscribe for sure. I own a Panorama T6, do you know if I can use the pads as pages for a looping?
Awesome!
good evening, will there be a setting to create key note melody automatically like native instruments?
Hmm I dont know. I dont think Nektarine have a chord / Arp function. But you can use what your DAW provides in midi functionality (arpeggiators, chord stack etc.)
Hi Mattias,
I have Panorama P1, with latest Bitwig firmware update on 08/2020. So..., I have a problem with premapped FX VST plugins as (Waves FX plugins, FabFilter Fx plugins, Steven Slate plugins etc) - they all arent premapped,
Besides of VSTi instrumens - that are doing well (checked with Sylenth1, Serum, Massive, FM8, FabFilter one, etc.
@@MattiasHolmgrenWhat controllers would you recommend with a good feel for expression and dynamics? without going over € 500. Thank you.
What about Ableton Live integration?
good day
Mattias I have thought to buy a new midi controller, I would like to know if the Komplete Kontrol m32 works well with "Bitwig".

Hi, which key action feels better (a more nuanced and dynamic response) between Numa Compact 2X and this T4?. Thanks!.
I don't know, but the key nuance and dynamic response of the T4 isn't that good. I feel I can play piano parts more naturally on Komplete Kontrol S61.
@@MattiasHolmgren Thanks for reply my friend, and are you tried the Alesis VI49/61?. Which feels better between T4 and Alesis?.
Hello Mattias! Did you buy this midi keyboard yourself, or did the manufacturer provide you?
Hi! Are the keys very noisy / clanky? Thanks
Hi Ted. The keys do have a small clack when the keys return to their restingplace. I find the Axiom Air 61 has the most pleasant key sound. But I don't think it's manufactured anymore, and it was flaw at other places (in the endless rotary encorders, screen etc.).
Great video! Do the pads LEDs sync with Btiwig's Drum machine?
Hi Pier, no the LEDS light up when you hit them. And they will show triggered pattern when used with Bitwig.
The workflow seems a bit different from the p series. Which do u prefer t vs p?
Thanks Dan.
Hello Mathias. Thank you for your reviews. Is the Nektar as good as Komplete Kontrol? Thank you
Hi, no I don't feel the Nektar T4 is in par with the Komplete Kontrol S61 keyboard.
Thanks.
@@MattiasHolmgren thank you so much

But at least with Nektarine you can rename the knobs to whatever you like in a patch. ;)
NKS has much broader cover since it's become like industry standard.
I understand you want knobs to tweak rather than keys.
T4 isn't an expensive keyboard and has 8 knobs, 9 faders and Nektarine. Maybe that would work for you? Thanks.
Does it have transpose function?
Yes octave transpose + pad / key repeat buttons for rapid performance hihats etc.
@@MattiasHolmgren Thanks.
In 2022, are these T series still a great fit for Bigwig version 4.x?
It still does the same control of Bitwig 🎉
Hello thanks for the vid ,
i want to ask you if u still consider T4 as best midi keyboard conectivity still for Bitwig
... or if there is a better one now
Hi Ricardo, yeah it's been a while.
Any idea how is the integration is with fl studio? Compared to lx series?
Oh I have no idea if T4 has better integration than LX, sorry. ☕️☀️
Please a Logic demo of T6
Hi Mikael, I could possible do a video on using the T4 in Logic Pro X. Its basically the same midi controller keyboard. 🌞
Also, nektarine seems like a very powerfull thing to have in Logic.
going to try this with fl and ableton. If anyone has any experience with that can you let me know what features are usable?
Aight this is a bitch to set up not gonna lie. Still got more setting up to do with ableton. Nektarine is amazing though. It feels like i’m controlling the actual knobs and that the sounds are really inside of the keyboard
Hi David, yes, indeed it takes us back to the quick responsiveness of working with a workstation keyboard. ;) Like the Yamaha EX5, Triton or whatever. I really miss that quick responsiveness of calling up sounds in a heartbeat. But I wouldn't go back. As we have much more overall power these days and can have so much more amazing sounds...Omnisphere 2. ;D
you tried with fl
Studio???

Great, overview
Thanks Chris. What Keyboard controller are you using?
Thanks
You are welcome. 🌞
Very nice sir 😘😘
NiKHiL FarEnJiYa thanks Nikhil.
somebody has a comparison to akai mpk249? (akai currently on sale for 222€)
That intro. Lmao
Its all on me. 🦊 Happy to make you happy. Lol
The pads on this thing are ass. The worst.
I think the pads are better than on the P6 actually. I own both keyboards. But the pads on Maschine mk3 is the best pads Ive played.
