    Man, this is like a guide I wish I knew before buying all those pants, like how in the world 30 inch for inseam would be listed as petite. Being the only one in my family under 5ft (4ft9) with only 7.9 inches feet….clothing and shoes are definitely a struggle I’m used to everyday. Kids clothing and shoes don’t always match up with other part that comes with being an adult. I used to buy cropped, ankle pants or kid trousers for school. Thank you for these kind of contents. Learned something useful today🥰🥰🥰

    Really appreciate this video, thank you -- I'm also 5'2 & the struggle is real! Would really love to hear your thoughts on COS trousers & also your recommended jeans options in general. I'm umming and ahing about the COS barrel wool trousers that I think you also have, I know long trousers are recommended for petites as they're elongating, but I'm slightly confused now as I have found these COS barrel trousers to be quite flattering even though they're cropped...

    • @AdelineLoke
      @AdelineLoke  Год назад +1

      I'm so glad that you enjoyed this video. I do want to explore more brands and do a video for jeans too!
      COS trousers are so long for us! The only ones that I have found to be a good length are the barrel leg ones. I also have the tapered jeans from there which I really like the cut of, but I need to get the length altered.
      As for flattering lengths, cropped trousers can be really flattering for us, as long as they are high waisted as that still gives you the leg lengthening illusion. I can't tell you the 'science' behind it, but showing your ankle when wearing cropped trousers is really flattering. I think it is because normally your ankles are the slimmest part of your leg, and so when you show that off, you are tricking the eyes into thinking you are slimmer and taller than you are. I hope that makes sense! Not sure if I explained that well, haha.

    Loved this video! Please do a part 2-so helpful! At 5'2" I find the rise often way too long for me. People don't often talk about this for petite women. For me, pants will often sit at my waist but the crotch drops way too low.

    • @AdelineLoke
      @AdelineLoke  Год назад

      Yes I definitely will!
      Urgh that’s so true. Petite sizing needs to be everything, not just a shorter length 🙁

  • @kimberlyperrotis8962
    @kimberlyperrotis8962 Год назад +1

    I’m both petite and don’t have waist definition, so trousers are nearly impossible to get to fit, they tend to ride down off my skinny hips. The average pair that fits my waist will be 8 inches too big on my hips and thighs, they just can’t be taken in that much. Like many shorter women, I’m so short waisted that I literally don’t have the room for a waist curve, my ribcage is nearly sitting on my hipbones. My best chances are with trousers that have at least some elastic in the back waistband. (Not only did middle age cause me to store a bit more fat at the waistline, but I’ve lost two inches from my spine/torso since my youth, which I couldn’t really spare). Full elastic waistband trousers stay up best. That’s why I generally prefer skirts and dresses, they’re just put on and go enjoy my life! And, of course, I have to shorten all trousers, usually from 6-9 inches. I get so tired of constantly doing this, I always have pairs in my laundry room waiting to be hemmed, three at the moment, (tailoring is super-expensive where I live, so it quickly eats into my wardrobe budget, so I mostly do my own alterations, unless it’s beyond my, quite average, skill level).

    CROPPED is indeed the magic word !
    I find there’s often a difference between Scandinavian brands like Arket, COS, etc. and Spanish/southern European brands. The former are normally quite long / oversized (even when it comes to tops and sleeves), while the latter are more petite friendly and don’t always require tailoring.
    Another aspect to keep in mind is that trouser length varies a bit with size, so a size 32 pair might have the perfect length, but a 36 or 38 might already be too long for a petite person 😢

    • @AdelineLoke
      @AdelineLoke  Год назад +1

      I completely agree, that sort of oversized 'effortless'/model off duty look is so prevalent with the Scandi brands. Even the smallest sizes are so big!
      Yes, that's also true. I really value brands that offer different leg lengths. I wish more brands did that 😐

    • @kimberlyperrotis8962
      @kimberlyperrotis8962 Год назад

      I found this, too, brands that originate/are designed in Northern Europe are ridiculously long, trousers are 36! That means I have to cut off 10 inches, absurd! It changes the shape of the trousers, too, any slit, flare, taper or other detail is gone. The super-long sleeves, too, are a huge nuisance. I heard a YTer yesterday praising the wide sleeves that covered her hands plus 6 inches, why would anyone want that? Everyone had to use their hands constantly and wide sleeves won’t stay pushed or rolled up. In thicker knits, sleeves can’t really be properly shortened, they’ll never look right. Even for lightweight knits like T-shirts, a special sewing machine, called a coverstitch machine, is required for a decent-looking hem. None of the tailors in my area have one and I don’t want to spend that much right now, my basic machine works fine for most things.🙂

    I am really having trouble with the new trousers, as like you I am petite and I feel as if the new styles which are quite wide and then pull on the ground are swallowing me up. I liked it when they were ankle length, because that was more manageable, but now sizes have gone all the way to the floor or beyond and I just feel like I'm wearing a Burka. How does one adapt to a new style that is not good for ones height or whatever, and keep the flavor of the style but not have it overwhelm you?

    • @AdelineLoke
      @AdelineLoke  Год назад

      Love this question. For us petites, I think that if you want to wear something wider on the bottom you need to give yourself the illusion of more height to give yourself the proportion to pull off the wideness.
      So I would make sure the trousers are high waisted - that makes your legs look longer. I would also wear a heel if you can? And also you could go for a style that isn't too wide, but maybe slightly slouchier than what you normally go for. That way you can wear the trend whilst still being in keeping with your own style. Also.. make friends with your tailor! Hope that helps x
