As someone that went through a gut-wrenching divorce, I can definitely say that it is not the "easy way out". I, too, protected the relationship and on the outside, everything seemed perfect, but on the inside, I was suffocating. It takes courage to talk openly about divorce because there is so much taboo around it and like somehow we "failed" at our marriage (I still struggle with this feeling) when in reality, we are just choosing ourselves to live a better life.

Can I ask why you were feeling suffocated?

    • @HappierbySeppy
      @HappierbySeppy Год назад +24

@@mimil8677 I didn't realize that I had been suffocating in the marriage to begin with - I felt like I didn't have a voice and my confidence and worth was slowly being chipped away through subtle forms of emotional control and abuse. And then in the last year of the marriage (2019) I felt like I was the only one really fighting to fix things. Until I just shut down and allowed things to play out the way they were meant to. I wanted to see how my ex would react, what he would do, if he would step up. It also felt suffocating because of all the emotions you are experiencing - uncertainty, fear, anger, sadness, overwhelm, confusion. Not knowing what's next and what you should (or shouldn't do). It's a lot of conflicting and overwhelming emotions. I shared a video about my experience on my channel and some valuable lessons that I wish I would have heard during the process because it really feels lonely and hearing other women's stories (like Chriselle) can really help. Let me know if you have any other questions, I am happy to offer any support that I can

Congratulations on coming back stronger and even more assertive! Having followed you for years, I value the authenticity and unapologetic honesty with which you have decided to open up and share your experience! Nothing in live is perfect especially when you know that not only do you have to make decisions for yourself but also for your children who depend on you! Yet, it is during difficult times that we have to find the inner strength and resilience to fight back! I have been blessed to be a mother of a wonderful daughter who is my driving force and inspiration to become better so that I can provide her with a nice role model to look up to even if she is bound to partially dismiss that in search for her own unique identity!! I’m genuinely happy that your back Chris!!

Once upon a time, I had a big house, a lived-in nanny & a successful medical practice. Then one day, I lost it all & had just few dollars in my ac. I walked out of my marriage. I chose not to HATE more. LIFE was unbearable. I nearly took my own life. I felt ashamed and was even shunned by my own family for a year. Today, I'm back making 6 figures. My parents finally talk to me and my X became my best friend. Have FAITH & be RESILIENT. RESILIENCE is all about how often you get back up! Divorce does break you but in time it will make you. Btw...my X did ask me to come back. Past is Past...so no to that. If you're dealing with a Divorce, know that you will come out ok! Just remember to LOVE yourself more than ever!

My love life is in a mess. I dragged 4 years to get a divorce. Both of us live separately, we dated different people despite our status.. I blamed myself for not getting the papers ready as the guy I’ve dated waited for 3 years. Finally I’m signing the paper in two days. I’ve lost my marriage, I’ve also lost a good guy who’ve patiently waited and loved me for who I am.. feeling depressed and lost sleep for a month ever since the break up.

I think this kind of story needs to be shared more with others. It's not common for Asian families or women to talk about divorce in a healthy manner because culture and traditions said it'd make us look bad or we're being the devil/we destroy relationships & families. In fact, I'm kinda inspired by your story here (although not divorced nor married yet) to create content on topics we usually shy away from/taboo.

As an Asian-American woman, I can somewhat relate to your story. Though I’ve never been married and don’t have children myself, my parents divorced when I was 10 or 11. My sister and I chose to live with our mother. You’re fortunate to be able to co-parent. In my case, our father became so angry that he stopped communicating with me and my sister altogether. Years later, a family friend told my mother that our father died. Initially I briefly cried, but then got upset that I’ll never have the opportunity to prove how successful I’ve become without him. In my 30s, I’ve told my mother how brave and strong she was to leave our abusive father and raise me and my sister on her own. Now that I’m nearly 42, I look after my retired mother. Divorce is always difficult for everybody, but I truly believe that “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”.

Hey Chriselle! I'm not divorced (in fact just got married) but my parents divorced. I see many encouraging messages about people who divorced and how it was the right decision; from a child's POV, seeing my parents' relationship breakdown yet they still try to stay 'married' was one of the hardest things to deal with growing up. They wanted to 'stay for the children', but in reality it was a build up of resentment, frustration, distrust and all these translated into many things like violence, theft, financial abuse... etc. I don't blame my parents for trying to make it work, but I also wished they realised a little earlier what was their non-negotiables/could not tolerate and would agree to divorce earlier. Tbh my childhood memories are just of them fighting A LOT, and suicide attempts. It wasn't great but I'm glad my parents divorced. If you're worried about what your children may think, take heart that they will grow to be sensible and understand why what you did was best.
Also, I encouraged my mum to date again because I knew she would be lonely... i'm happy that you're seeing someone and that you found courage to give love a second chance. Love you!

I personally have to say I didn’t think you portrayed your family as the perfect family. I didn’t see it that way but I do think you did a great job with sharing in a way that we felt included. You made us feel like family as well. Whatever happens I just want you to be happy.

I'm not divorce and i hope i never will be. But i knew from the start that divorce is the hardest part of a marriage. I cannot imagine having to battle every little things out. The family of your partner becomes your family too, so i also can't imagine not having them in my life anymore especially the nieces and nephew that i love from his side of the family. Tangible object can be separated or sold, but all the intangible, how does one even split that. This is why it is an extremely difficult process that no on ever want to go through when they first got married. I hope you are really ok now and that you found peace.

I admire you so much Chriselle! Love to watch you come so far and I appreciate your openness! Sharing such a sensitive time and your life with us has been so important and helpful in ways I can’t express. Coming from parents who are older or immigrants I understand the previous concept of divorce but we need more successful female role models like you to show us reality and what to do if plans change as they often do ❤

I totally resonated with everything you said and went through, as I too, decided to divorce my children’s dad back in 2018. It was the toughest decision, but yet the best thing I ever did for myself and my kids. I still have low days, but for the most part, I’m grateful that we both have moved on from the past. Now we are coparenting in a cordially way for our kids.
I am now a much happier person and mommy! And my kids can definitely see and feel it!
We got this!! We are much STRONGER 💪🏻 than we think we are! I’m glad you to see you back on the driver’s seat and taking control of the steering wheel! You are doing a wonderful job with your girls!! Welcome back Chriselle!! ❤️🦋

We all have choices in life. We sabotage ourselves by putting too much preassure on ourselves and by stressing over mental deadlines. Life always gives us unexpected challenges and obstacles. But eventhough life can sometimes be unfair, we have to be fair.
Chrisselle, I am glad you are back ❤ Yes, your life reflections are inspiring to me and I am sure to many others ❤😗

Thank you for sharing this video. I can relate so much as I decided to end my marriage last year Nov. It has been almost a year but probably the happiest time I have felt for the past 10 years. Looking back, the struggles, the misery, the unhappiness deep down, the conflicting feeling of wanting to free myself but feeling guilty of separating a family that looks "perfect" from outside... Once we had the courage to turn that page, a new chapter begins with bright light shining through. Wish everyone who went through, and is going through this process the best, and know that Universe has your back:)
