@The Monster Under Your Bed true, the bots are rampant, they purged the other day and within that same day there were bots up again using the same game names and everything
The greatest and my favorite game still after all these years. This is how a dark fantasy game should be like. I don't think a game will come out which will surpass diablo 2.
people are still talking about this game. truly legendary. 35 years old, and I played the sheet out of it when I was younger. open BNET hacked duels in .09 to 1.1 closed BNET. From a hackers perspective, they COMPLETELY changed the very foundation of the game when 1.1 dropped. sofa king many memories... I could talk about this game for HOURS.
I use to stay up like all night every night even on school nights and get like 2-3 hours of sleep cause I was addicted lol I still feel like I'm catching up on lost sleep from that period in my life.
I was like 10 when playing D2 back in my days. Now I'm 25 and came back to D2R, I was wondering why my memory is so broken and I don't remember any enigmas, some sick cubing recipes, or upgrading runes. After your video, I just realized I spent my childhood time playing 1.09 all the time (unfortunately I had a pirated copy from my friend so no updates) and that's the reason a lot of stuff seems new or forgotten. Thank you for making it so clear, maybe that's the reason I still have sooo much fun grinding it again :) Time to make my first enigma ever
I miss d2. Biggest achievement ever in the thousands of hours i had on hardcore was being the first zon to 99 on hardcore ladder season 4. HCK_Titan was its name. Had soo many lvl 96-98s every ladder but only once was i ever able to get a toon to 99.
This, and probably complete lack of gameplay. I came here expecting Vanilla 1.0 gameplay no expansion, then 1.09 for a bit, then finally 1.14d... instead, nothing.
Respecs were a major change, since there was no legit way to reset your stat/skill points before that. Therefore I think 1.13 is a notable patch as well - and it's wrong to say that 1.10 and 1.14d are "the same".
Been playing from age 11 until I was 17. God do I miss the old CS 1.6 maps and Diablo 2. I grew up playing 1.10. the good days were from 2003 until 2010 I miss it glad to see it's still active. I have 20 bucks I am playing again.
1.09 - Jab zon with a inventory full of poison charms and rocking a vamp gaze and shaftstop. Also a barb with a Ccbos(cruel colossus blade of swiftness).
Roy Batty Amen. I think it’s 1.13 and onwards. I downloaded 1.12 for PlugY and it took days for me to learn NOT to use physical attacks during Chaos runs.
33 years old here. Played diablo 2 all the time when I was younger. 1.09 was by far my fav version of Diablo 2. Back then it was a trade fest to try and get ahold of things like Arcanes Valor from 1.08 for my schaefers hammer paladin. It was kinda cool that blizz allowed the items already spawned to remain the same even if they were nerfed in later versions. Such fond memories of so many different applicable builds. It feels like you get too shoehorned nowadays into certain 'applicable' builds.
Yes and before 1.10 there wasn't Ladder and No ladder separation. You could have items all the way from the game release. Only the new ladder seasons didn't show any characters in the ladder list that had been created before the reset.
To be honest, if they brought this back, I don't think it would be too Op anymore with some changes. It would finally give amazon a decent way to solo ubers. If they did something like make the leech only happen on the 1st hit, it could be brought back to not so OP territory. But yes, with fast aspd, and 5 times pierce every guided, and leeching everytime the arrow hits, it was definitely OP. Literally nothing killed you unless it one shot you.
frozen orb sorc will always be my favorite class/build to play in D2. By far. I remember losing my shit when I finally got the shako to drop, getting my monarch spirit shield, getting oculus, etc.Trap sins were pretty fun too. Never liked hammerdins. I just didn't enjoy playing them.
1.09 broke the mould for RPG's forever. It's and absolute standard in the way we look at RPG's today. I mean ffs Blizzard have reverted back to D2 for D4 and we've got the remaster to look forward too.....hopefully, you guys all have mobiles right? 🤣
I played classic, 1.08 up to 1.10 died as #1 hardcore sorc on ladder to the viper bug at lv 98. 1.09 is better then 1.10 but many players hated random rares becoming garbage after 1.08 and the fact certain people myself included had the ability to dupe rares and unqiues from 1.08. if you played us west you prob ran into a guy "Evil Pickles" he had so many broken old rares and he was a clear duper, great pkr and dueler. O the amount of ears I collected over the years. 1.09 was the peak and best time to play though. Sad they changed hostile and way points, and then patched the bug that got around it, so much harder to pk. I was 15 at the time, feel a little bad sometimes I would pk the same newb 3 times in a weekend every time as they got into the 30s with a one shot charge. Shout out to "Free sandwiches" hammer pally lead all our bail runs and was first to #1 if your still alive 21 years later and see this lol.
Until that day where you went into games and there had dozens of windforces and sojs on the floor and you knew there was no coming back from dupeswap/yay
I played at the peak of 1.09 where it got pretty out of hand with the hacks. Not sure if it was just a small minority of the D2 players that possessed them, but there were the Ith colossus blades/swords/matriarchal bows, the occy rings, and the most ridiculous +400 strength gloves. Insane days.
Exactly! Thats why 1.10 was good for the community. Got rid of all the old heads but kept the game alive and well for another decade, which is quite impressive imo
If you want points grab some pens bruh, it's his channel and the discussion is about STUFF. :) It's not labeled "TOP FEW EFFICIENT AND SHORT POINTS FOR NATHAN HASSALL'S LIKING"
I have played diablo 2 for 20 years. I love this game more than anything so I try and respect any man or woman that still makes RUclips videos about diablo. No matter what the discussion is about.
@@jhondoe6211 Me too man since ver 1.0 I didn't mean to sound like a jerk and obviously I enjoy discussion on the subject too or I wouldn't be here..I didn't say broadcasting a was easy.. only trying to offer constructive criticism..based on the thumbs up I think other people felt the same way.
Patch 1.10 destroyed the game for me, strip away the fun to play builds and forced me to play boring chars, he didn't explained anything about 1.14d because there is nothing there, the core game wasn't changed and the only thing noteworthy was the ability to play on modern computers...
1.10 killed the game, wasn't gamers needed time to figure out builds. killed duels, gave other players spells to every class, boring pvp and pve, runwords too over powered, loss of balance of the whole game, game turned to doggg shiit.... went from a great pvp/pve to a horrible pvp and mediocre pve game.....now they remaster the wosrt patch.... what a fuckign joke
My first Diablo 2 came from a crack I download from extinguish ARES ....that was a gold era I download all blizzard games on that time from ARES all were offline and it was so amazing and beautiful for me that I even dream with this age this days 🤩🤩😌
They also added skill synergies in 1.10 and majorly changed the necromancer specifically, with the amount of skeletons he could have. But skill synergies changes the game a lot.
As a kid who played exclusively single player (we didn't have good enough internet to play games online), I remember seeing the new rune words in v1.10, and just getting stars in my eyes...I was SO pumped. Even knowing that I would never find these runes (highest I ever found back then was Fal), I liked to dream of what power my character could be capable of with the new runewords. So for me, there is pretty much no nostalgia around pre 1.10 - I wasn't playing anywhere near the top tier, only had a few single player characters that got to Hell, and even then, never through act 3. I still feel the same way; the top tier rune words are the coolest thing to aspire to, especially now that I am BACK playing single player, trying to farm all the runes on my own (spoiler: it's not going well XD but it's still fun). Interesting to hear the perspective of someone who was active on the realms when these big changes dropped.
i agree with you wholeheartedly. i still love d2 in its current form but, d2 1.09 was a patch that kept me entirely slated to nothing but diablo 2 the entirety of the patch, then 1.10 nerfed and wrecked all of my characters.
That stinks. Iron maiden made things a bit more, I dunno, tactical. I mean how many things in Act 3 fuck you up when you kill them, especially in later difficulties? Seems only logical Act 4 would be balls to the wall too and require you to not play with your head up your ass. Sounds like some filthy casuls whined too much, and we know Blizzard likes to pander to filthy casuls these days.
Not only that he forgot to mention from 1.08 to 1.09 fixed a major bug with Tyrael casting an inaccessible town portal and Duriel always dropping a Town portal after killing him so the Player doesn't get stuck in Act 2 and having to save Quit and having to kill Duriel again. Also another major addon is the /players x command in single player and local multiplayer. Also I think in 1.13 Immolation arrow getting a huge buff which decreased the casting cool down. Also 1.10 fixed a bug with the Venom Skill where weapons with Poison damage the venom duration was overridden by the weapons duration.
@@justiciar1964 Iron Maiden was fine in 1.09 but not in 1.10. They increased our damage by a lot and decreased the Life Leech effectiveness in Hell. Also probably increased the iron maiden reflect. I played mostly classic and could also clear Chaos with my whirl barb. I equipped lower damage with + life leech Lance on him and took it careful. I mostly Leaped some oblivs and then short WW to kill them. Leap attack was ranged attack back then and wasn't affected by IM.
My best D2 years were 1.09. Best balanced and realized vision of the original game and expansion. I played 1.10 for a couple years too and enjoyed it but 1.09 was SO GOOD. Great trading on closed too. USEAST 2001-2005!
Crazy watching this in 2023. 1.09 was very fun. I just remember at some point the whole thing went from getting uniques to getting runes and I was confused.
You missed a lot of stuff in 09. Grandfather was good, but true top barbs wanted 3 socket Cruel X of Quickness swords, then there were tons of hacked items used by garbage players to think they were good, stuff like Ith runeword weapons, Oculus rings, Hex charms...
I was like 7 but man I was really into hacked items and modded D2. I tried to DL a 2gig mod, 56k AOL meant my parents were constantly DCing me and I had to start over, also they weren't happy.
It was actually easier to get Cruel Colossus Blade of X than a Grandfather :) Those gems were more difficult if you wanted the best. Basically CCB required 3x 15%Ias Gems to hit last breakpoint ot something... so %dmg and IAS was the optimal And yeah for PvP especially.. Eth was mandatory. I guess it bugged and bypassed defence.
DShiflet01 I had some great magic and rare items back then. 1.10 screwed it bad in some ways even though it was also a lot of fun and gave us a fresh experience in our old game Prior to that I had tried to get into some mods and it just was never the same and I missed the trading Now D3 is a great game in terms of gameplay but there is no community and it feels a lot shallower I miss 1.09! Don't miss asshold barbs sorces and zone wrecking Paladin PVP games but it came with the territory :)
Oh Boy. I remember Patch 1.09 like it was yesterday. I remember the sort after Windforce bow was the 1.08 version that added like +20 to dexterity. I remember during 1.09 having the full Bowazon Set and with patch 1.10 they did a complete revamp of the Set Items as well buffing them up and making them powerful but what sucked about it was that you had to re-find the set items to get the benefited boost. Another major change with 1.10 is the added the synergy damage bonuses as well. Another major change from 1.10 to 1.14 would be 1.12 and 1.13 because with patch 1.12 it allowed users to play D2 without using the CD and Patch 1.13 nerfed the Oblivion Knights removing their ability to cast the Curse Skill of Iron Maiden. I remember on how broken the Guided Arrow was in 1.09 being able to pierce multiple times per shot which made Bowazons overpowered as hell.
that feeling when you had all the good complete sets and best unique items... and then being rewarded with the fact that all that stuff was worth nothing anymore...
Cow runs with Amazons were really fun using the ETH Titans along with Lightning Fury man Id level people to 99 all the time doing that. Plus back then you could keep doing cow runs with worrying about killing the cow king and not being able to re make.
Yeps, cow king was never ok to kill if you wanted to remake. Perhaps you were just under beating hell when you killed King, then made it when you were finally done Hell and were confused. Like person above me said, you were always fucked if you killed King.
Didn't see any fun in that. Ez mode area, eastern egg meant for visiting once per difficulty, not suppose to be core part of the game. Also too much exp which was a big problem the whole 1.08->1.09. 1.06 best patch still. :)
Ive quit d2 for close to 15 years, but Frozen orb sorceress and whirlwind barb will never be forgotten. Son, no one really used WFs even back then. Ith bows and CBs were real big back then.
I remember some transition between the 1.09 and the latest versions with those crazy runeword who gives people spells from other characters. I remember people who get those same old items but with countless ammounts of sockets and crazy overstatted jewels and occy rings n stuff. Thats what ruined the game before the newer items came out. It was actually the worst period of time. I remember having a very competitive sorceress and overnight, I was shit. The latest items kind of brought back the essence of the game. Still, nothing beats 1.09. If they do a remastered version of 1.09 with some new stuff, i'm gonna cry.
You guys realize you could always play 1.09 in Single Player mode, don't you? You just need to install the game from original discs and apply patch 1.09, which can surely be found and downloaded from somewhere. As long as you keep away from Battle.net, you will stay at version 1.09 ;)
@@WaheedQc Do you really have to "farm" for items? Just play the game - that's what I do. I've beaten the game (both Original and Expansion) in Hardcore without godly items and it was still an amazing experience. That's the real fun, to come on top and win against all odds with whatever gear you find along the way (instead of just getting good stuff without working for it).
If I recall correctly, 1.10 added the possibility to buy mana potions in shops (that was major!) and skill synergies. That completely changed the game indeed. (and runewords too, needless to say). I mostly played 1.10 and beyond (like 95% of the time), but now I kinda wanna try 1.09 or even 1.00 lol
Same here.. Running it with 5 clients in my own TCP/IP game. It is fantastic. Back to my roots of online gaming at 2000. Buying mana potions is one of the worst features imo. IT takes away almost completely all the focus on your amount of mana and mana regen. Same thing with increased potion drops and for example the Meditation aura runeword.
LoD was great, jewels & runewords added a lot more depth than just a couple classes did, although I loved the Druid personally as well (another bonus). Ba'al runs are great too for solo MF as well as XP
1.09 was definitely the best time on D2 - no surprise considering the direction Blizzard was taking (the toilet direction) they would make such drastic changes without much player feedback beforehand. I get what they were trying to do, but what they should’ve have done was tried to even the classes out a little more maybe try and make all the different builds viable. They were just trying to create some longevity for Diablo like an MMO, but D2 is a well made game and that’s all it needs to stand on.
Alas, you didn't talk about the XP Penalty past Level 70 either. That was a HUGE change, and while I don't know if anybody actually *asked* for that back in the day, that *fundamentally* changed the endgame by making it much more of a grind to level past 90 than it already was and vastly extended the time needed to actually get to 99 for a single character from weeks to taking months, even years, to do so. Playing with large 7- or 8-player groups after that for maximum XP gain became essential and forced people into more online interactions, and at the same time also made it MUCH longer and more difficult for (read: one of the only real things in place preventing, even in D2R) banned players and botters to set themselves back up with new endgame accounts, so breaking ToS and losing characters actually started hurting and meaning something at that point. That definitely needed to be mentioned.
Once they took life leech away in melee duels. I lost interest in pvp. I had a couple of godly pvp hammerdins & smiters. The old melee duels lasted for ever and no one did crazy damage. After that I just built lvl18 pker for hardcore. I still like diablo but now that it's just glass cannon pvp i just play pvm hardcore.
Along with the patch notes do you have an links for builds during this 1.09 patch? And do you have any other things to note that is different at all for the 1.09 patch. Anything from different grinding spots or just things to know for the game.
The most neglected class in D2 was the Necromancer. There's literally NO runewords (except Bone & White) or actual uniques that make sense for the class. The Nec was just random items from other overpowered builds. Plus the damage is pitiful, the defense is shit, the killing rate was ass, and customizability was dead - summoner was boring, bonemancer was slow as shit, poisonmancer didnt kill with just poison alone. It sucks. I played D2 mostly in the Nec, but I always wanted more.
The fuck you are saying Necromancer is one of the easiest classes to start ladder with and finish hell by yourself easily (one of the fastest too), and with decent build you can almost match a clearing time of hammerdin. Summoner is boring but thats just about every summoner class in every rpg. And poison mancer was great to farm cows back in the days and can be viable as "hipster" build.
When I said all of the classes and skills got a boost I meant the synergy trees that's just the way I should have mentioned it. I said at the start of the video I wasn't going into crazy details on the patch. I said to just check the links for the FULL patch notes.1.09 wasn't just about amazons and sorcs Any true d2 veteran will tell you whirlwind barbarian was king.
I can confirm that barbarian could do everything ( but cs ) in any kind of games. I did like 9k with my ww , and back in those times was a lot. With my buffs alone i had 5300 hp. Not the king , but respectable. My friend had the collection of 99 hc barbs.
Yeah 1.09 was the best version of D2 by far and away. They really screwed things up with all the changes. I am probably a bit biased I mean I met the one true love of my youth through D2 so I have all sorts of memories attached to this period in D2 history but even so (and trying to put that aside) the game was just better.
1.09 was epic yea, but it wasn't the "over powered" RWs in 1.10 that destroyed D2/LoD. It was the fact you all of a sudden could BUY RWs from various 3rd party vendors. That and BOTs. - What made, and makes D2 so epic, is the fact it is a very social game. You can go ape sh!t with your WW barb and STILL have time to hold a conversation with your team m8s about the weather if you please. The fact you can play it with a mouse only and a blunt in the other, was one of the things that made it so special. It's extremely vast in its build, with all the things you can build and use, and STILL so very simple, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to play it. If D2 ever gets a proper re-launch, i'm first in line to pre-order the hell out of it... And yea, those "over powered " RWs needs to stay - They're what makes the hunt for Ubers so much fun... D2 is the ONLY game ever that has made it both easy AND hella hard at the same time... Remember the first time you ever got to fight Uber Diablo (World Boss) on your server ? You went "OMG OMG OMG OMG... I think i just peed a lil'..." - Or the first time you and your buddies went up against Uber Tristram? Smiter, Necro (Curse) and Frost Wiz ? And you get ganked 27 times before you FINALLY get them all down... - That has to come back...
Ah nostalgia, back before the powercreep runewords rekt everyone's shiz. Remember when Silence was considered one of the best runewords, now nobody would even consider making one. Uniques felt strong. Now it's rare to not have at least 2 1.10 runewords as BiS gear.
Diablo II's history can be divided into "before 1.10" and "after 1.10" - that's how influential this patch was. I started playing after 1.10 - in 2005 and I am used to this type of gameplay. But I have played older versions too, including the original 1.00 ;)
@@akse You are right. In recent years I decided to play some original (since I started with expansion all these years ago) and it does feel pretty different at times. Lots of things I was used to simply don't exist in that version. Most char builds don't work the same way as in LoD. I try to keep the experience as genuine as possible, which means I install only the original game, without LoD. This allows me to see the original title screen and character creation/selection screens. They are quite beautiful.
you explained ONE big difference between 2001-2003 and 2004-2017 diablo 1. Runewords. That's it. There are tons of other things that changed... duping, botting, spam bots, hacks, number of players, trading, iron fucking maiden was HUGE, fire enhanced monsters, hacked item such as siggard and tal rasha, mods changed the game on an INSANE scale and they are a BIG HUGE part of diablo 2. You are completely ignorant to them. So many thousands and thousands of people play private servers and modded diablo 2... because diablo 2 is a very short game with little content. Modding adds like literally 10-100 times more content if you put all the mods together. Torches and anni too. And when you couldn't put a torch in a trade window, so people would cause scams. Scams and kids were a big part of diablo 2. So many evil people in diablo 2...
Good ol patch 1.09, back when Lord De Siez in A4 had Iron Maiden. Zeal paladins and Whirlwind barbs would clear everything and basically commit suicide to him. Only too wait for a Elementalist to come by and kill him with ease. Ah the good ol days.
Ryan Kirkpatrick Standard Oblivion Knights in the Chaos Sanctuary had Iron Maiden up until patch 1.13. I play on a 1.12 version with PlugY and they’re a fucking nuisance.
For me, the killing move from Blizzard at the time, was that they introduced synergies from 1.09 to 1.10.. And, they did not include a skill/stat reset, effectively making all characters that you'd worked hard to gear and level up, unusable. So for veteran players, with several level 99 characters, perfectly geared and skilled, it was basically; start over or quit the game.. I chose the latter..
Like a lot of the comments below 1.09 was a great patch - unfortunately with one major flaw - that doesn't seem to be mentioned much if at all. The Necromancer was largely a curse bitch in it. If you love the Necro - 1.09 does it no justice. 1.10+ rectified that.
The most hated thing was the ladder. We ( a group of 15 from same city in italy + 5 canadians ) have played togather for 2 years in HC . I can stand monster increase and runewords. But this way 2 years of 20 people's life had been nullified. And than we all stopped to play , we restarted one month ago.
Congratulations on attaining the 10K subscribers milestone. I watched some, (had internet issues and had to go offline to fix), of your Live stream last night. I think you guys were playing on patch 1.09 at the time. Is there a way to determine which patch level a particular game/disk contains? I would like to "go back in time" and begin playing from it's original version. I would like to know if there is some indicator on the packaging that identifies the patch level. The only indicator I can think of is the copyright date, but I am unsure if that is a reliable means of patch level identification. Thank you for the video and the information, +Xtimus. Keep 'em coming.
Thank you Craig! Thanks for being a hardcore subscriber I see you on almost every video I post and you always have positive energy and a drive to learn more about Diablo. Also to play old patches you would need to download D2SE it allows you to play older versions of the game.
+Xtimus Thank you for the information, and the compliment. I prefer being positive as often as possible. I will search for D2SE. I had to make changes with my laptop, due to its failing CPU temperature sensor, so I may have moved all of those items to my Dell Optiplex GX260 already. The GX260 is not setup as internet-capable at the moment. It makes things more difficult, especially when trying to determine which programs, etc., I already have. If my laptop fails suddenly, I want to be sure I do not lose my Diablo stuff. That would be a very bad thing for me. Although, it would force me to start from the beginning again, which is always an enjoyable experience. Due to my studies, and I am done with those now, I have not played in a while. I many just start over for the hell of it, and experience Diablo again for the first time.
fuck, im proud to be a true D2 fan and veteran.. started with the hexes, white rings, and white gloves.. then it was the time where death cleaver zealers were the shit.. then runewords came and changed the game forever.. had my 90 smiter with eth HOZ, beafy ass barb, 92 windy druid.. good times
1.09 is when I started playing the game. 1.09 was also right before I quit the game. ...Or maybe it was a patch before then that I started playing, but the point is I started around that time, and after I took a break and came back, I tried to play the game again and it just wasn't fun anymore. I really miss my teleporting ice orb sorc, nothing before or since has ever compared to how fun that was. Maybe one day Blizzard will pull their collective heads out of their asses and stop nerfing the fun out of their games. Forcing unnecessary meta changes and capitulating to crybabies doesn't make your game better. Until they realize this, I'm done buying their games.
there were two MAJOR differences between 1.12 and 1.13, iron maiden was removed from chaos sanctuary (remember this bad boy? this was why no one ran it, either your Merce died as a source or ur barb one hit him self). and second was rune drop rates became a million times eaiser (most high runes were duped or bought in 1.12)
You got my like and subscription. Question, how is it that your game looks so sharp and HD, and mine so pixalated? I don't see any video settings that would allow me to improve how it looks. Any clues on what I could check?
Yes, cause those of us who started at realese date have no problems to remember :D All we remember is: You are 245 in queue to create a game. 25 mins remaining. :D
I want to say 2002 is when I began playing after my brother bought the game home from college. Around this time, the original game had lightning/thunder on the screen that would turn white for a bit when in Act 1 & III.
Here's an indepth comparison between 1.09 vs 1.10+ patches by a DiabloII.net SP forum member RobbyD - www.diabloii.net/forums/threads/robbyds-time-travelers-guide-to-1-09-v1-1.753642/
I really have a lot of nostalgia about that patch, Frenzy barbarian wasn't nearly as bad as it is in 1.10+, and a lot of builds were playable untwinked, but when I start playing I can't get past some of the QoL changes, like Mana flasks at vendors, or Battle Orders buffing current health instead of max, stronger faster leveling Hirelings etc.
i use to like it very much ... if you just want new hero it was so easy ;] ... just 1 hour in and you go 86lvl.... ofc its impossible now ;( thats why i wont start to play again...
Can't find what would be so fun about it. Idea of the game is to level up and build your character. IF you do it solo self found in hardcore .. even better. Before Expansion (LoD) leeching was not working at all. Even if you were 60 and your friend 80 .. the lvl 80 would get almost all the exp. So you had to be inside 10 levels.. preferably inside 5 levels with party members.
Screw 1.10. I played single-player offline, and all my characters were ruined by that stupid patch. I might as well have just deleted everything and started over, except now I had to devote all my skill points into synergy bonuses rather than actually having, y'know, secondary skills. So I just plain quit.
wow, people talking about patch 1.10 like it was the apocalypse or something... it just changed the game and I'd argue that was necessary because if there wasn't a 1.10 patch all of you would be saying "remember when Blizzard made the 1.09 patch and they just abandoned the game until it became boring" 1.10 had it's pros and cons but it wasn't bad by any means fact is that even if you create an amazing game it's still gonna get boring after a while if there isn't anything new in it
1.07 was the game changer for me. 1.07 is the patch that really fucked the classic Lancer or the SS exec pvp barb. Only with an "eth/ith/honorstat" Hacked CB could a barb wreck Cows in 8player and match a nova sorc in kill speed in 1.09.
Honestly Diablo 2 is the best for immersion, LoD simply created more versatility. My 9k NovaSorc with 460% FCR obliterated everything in PvP but was stale in PvE. There were so many different characters to make. I'd be happy if Diablo 2 LoD came back with massive emphasis on PvP. The PvE was amazing, farming was exceptionally fun, PvP was a blast, but it lacked mass pvp.
I miss the days when your inventory wasn't full of charms
I agree that and also when you didn’t have a rune word hint going but just instead a good game play through for u is yes that actually were good
@The Monster Under Your Bed 1.09 was the best
1.07 was nice as well
@The Monster Under Your Bed true, the bots are rampant, they purged the other day and within that same day there were bots up again using the same game names and everything
@The Monster Under Your Bed 1.10 = everyone and their dog was using enigma teleporting around the map doing the exact same thing.

Diablo 1.09 was the best game of all time. There is still no competition to that nowadays.
The greatest and my favorite game still after all these years. This is how a dark fantasy game should be like. I don't think a game will come out which will surpass diablo 2.

@The Monster Under Your Bed I have actually, it honestly wasnt for me. I put a good amount of time and just couldnt get into it.
blizzard seem to be really good at making something super awesome and then fucking it up
people are still talking about this game. truly legendary.
Me too, 30 now
I was like 10 when playing D2 back in my days.
Rip 1.09. Loved those days. So amazing.
yeah honestly i would make D2R 1.09 and be happy about it xd. They nerfed all the favorite builds. They should at least boost frozen orb and Bowazons.
I miss d2. Biggest achievement ever in the thousands of hours i had on hardcore was being the first zon to 99 on hardcore ladder season 4. HCK_Titan was its name. Had soo many lvl 96-98s every ladder but only once was i ever able to get a toon to 99.
Erik Berg dude I remember you
You didn’t explain how 2017 is right now I think that’s why you got so many dislikes
This, and probably complete lack of gameplay. I came here expecting Vanilla 1.0 gameplay no expansion, then 1.09 for a bit, then finally 1.14d... instead, nothing.
he did. he said that it was just like 1.10
@@termitektermit7889 well the patches after 1.10 added Uber Tristram bosses and respecs.
Respecs were a major change, since there was no legit way to reset your stat/skill points before that. Therefore I think 1.13 is a notable patch as well - and it's wrong to say that 1.10 and 1.14d are "the same".
@@AlexeiVoronin A1Q1 den achievement gave you 1 respec reward at atma. So you had 3 respec available before 1.14
Been playing from age 11 until I was 17. God do I miss the old CS 1.6 maps and Diablo 2. I grew up playing 1.10. the good days were from 2003 until 2010 I miss it glad to see it's still active. I have 20 bucks I am playing again.
The good days were right after Diablo 2 released and all the skills were crazy strong. Firewall and Nova were the best skills!
1.09, when I knew nothing about how to play Diablo 2 other than apparently SOJs were like dollar bills and were the established currency.
1.09 - Jab zon with a inventory full of poison charms and rocking a vamp gaze and shaftstop. Also a barb with a Ccbos(cruel colossus blade of swiftness).
The patches I like most were the ones that:
1) Got rid of Iron Maiden
2) Got rid of Iron Maiden
Roy Batty
Amen. I think it’s 1.13 and onwards. I downloaded 1.12 for PlugY and it took days for me to learn NOT to use physical attacks during Chaos runs.
Iron maiden in 1.09 was okay. If you had some life leech you were doing okay.
In 1.10 the iron maiden got too hard and life leech didn't help anymore.
Same
33 years old here.
Xanthius zealot Schaefers hammer barb was my jam.
Yes and before 1.10 there wasn't Ladder and No ladder separation. You could have items all the way from the game release.
Only the new ladder seasons didn't show any characters in the ladder list that had been created before the reset.
Man I miss my guided arrow piercing 5 times every shot more than anything... Solo'd Hell Mephisto at lvl 42! lol
Signed :D I loved my burizon.
yeah not sure why they patched it so it does not do that anymore loved that skill.
You are not sure? That is immensely overpower :D I missed that too. And hell a lot. But lets be reasonable. It was a little bit breaking the game :-)
Literally nothing killed you unless it one shot you.
what ? just get the game and make another amazon ? :P
frozen orb sorc will always be my favorite class/build to play in D2.
1.09 was the best time of my entire Diablo gaming history. Hands down.
#Jacob Nelson pls share the #Diablo 2 #1.09 link
Shout out to "Free sandwiches" hammer pally lead all our bail runs and was first to #1 if your still alive 21 years later and see this lol.
.09 was the wild west of patches. I remember the melt down leading up to .10 too. Good freaking days and BEST GAME EVOR.
Eivor?

at this time Zealer Paladin:
I see no god up here.
this was the best .09... lil kids were up all night
Until that day where you went into games and there had dozens of windforces and sojs on the floor and you knew there was no coming back from dupeswap/yay
Darkerfire2 that was some crazy shit! I remember! Had an account catch a ban for the chest bug in 9th grade ;_; ah, the good ol' days
Why?
Imagine they downgrade to 1.09 now how many people will play again make Diablo 2 great again.
Michael Du you forgot bugged Valor and constricting rings 160/60 45/120 .09 was the best I thought everyone experienced those
Exactly! Thats why 1.10 was good for the community. Got rid of all the old heads but kept the game alive and well for another decade, which is quite impressive imo
1.09 was also "N GF O 40 SOJ"
Translation: need Grandfather, offering 40 Stones of Jordan. Ah the good ol days when 40 P gems equaled an SOJ. Was that 2004?
its taking you way too long to make only a couple of points man
ikr

I have played diablo 2 for 20 years. I love this game more than anything so I try and respect any man or woman that still makes RUclips videos about diablo. No matter what the discussion is about.
@@jhondoe6211 Me too man since ver 1.0 I didn't mean to sound like a jerk and obviously I enjoy discussion on the subject too or I wouldn't be here..I didn't say broadcasting a was easy.. only trying to offer constructive criticism..based on the thumbs up I think other people felt the same way.
Patch 1.10 destroyed the game for me, strip away the fun to play builds and forced me to play boring chars, he didn't explained anything about 1.14d because there is nothing there, the core game wasn't changed and the only thing noteworthy was the ability to play on modern computers...
who remembers occy rings?
Wizard Spike gloves.
Yes. I would gladly pay more for a 1.09 remaster
My first Diablo 2 came from a crack I download from extinguish ARES ....that was a gold era I download all blizzard games on that time from ARES all were offline and it was so amazing and beautiful for me that I even dream with this age this days 🤩🤩😌
if they didnt add all that shit and the game stayed like 1.09 the game would have died....
This hould be Diablo 2001 vs Diablo 2003. You mention 2017 version for like 30 seconds at the end
They also added skill synergies in 1.10 and majorly changed the necromancer specifically, with the amount of skeletons he could have. But skill synergies changes the game a lot.
I'm surprised he didn't mention this. This was a huge deal of why some old builds no longer worked and gave way to newer builds.
Interesting to hear the perspective of someone who was active on the realms when these big changes dropped.
what? you can do 500 LK runs and find 3-4 high runes easily
@@deviantan021 You think people got time to make 500 LK runs just instantly?
i agree with you wholeheartedly. i still love d2 in its current form but, d2 1.09 was a patch that kept me entirely slated to nothing but diablo 2 the entirety of the patch, then 1.10 nerfed and wrecked all of my characters.
109 killed most of uniques
You forgot that between 110 and 114 they removed Iron Maiden from Oblivion Knights, that was huge
Well, I was a filty casual with my Zealot, and I liked that change :S
Removing iron maiden made chaos runs possible on hardcore.
I quit playing after 1.10 came out. For me personally, it just changed way too much.
I tried to DL a 2gig mod, 56k AOL meant my parents were constantly DCing me and I had to start over, also they weren't happy.
yeah .. ITH was so insane and this stupid oculus rings hahahaha
I think 2 sockets was max? And one had to be an eth rune:)
It was actually easier to get Cruel Colossus Blade of X than a Grandfather :) Those gems were more difficult if you wanted the best. Basically CCB required 3x 15%Ias Gems to hit last breakpoint ot something... so %dmg and IAS was the optimal
And yeah for PvP especially.. Eth was mandatory. I guess it bugged and bypassed defence.
DShiflet01 I had some great magic and rare items back then. 1.10 screwed it bad in some ways even though it was also a lot of fun and gave us a fresh experience in our old game
Prior to that I had tried to get into some mods and it just was never the same and I missed the trading
Now D3 is a great game in terms of gameplay but there is no community and it feels a lot shallower
I miss 1.09!
1.09 was the best
that feeling when you had all the good complete sets and best unique items... and then being rewarded with the fact that all that stuff was worth nothing anymore...
Cow runs with Amazons were really fun using the ETH Titans along with Lightning Fury man Id level people to 99 all the time doing that. Plus back then you could keep doing cow runs with worrying about killing the cow king and not being able to re make.
It is still the same I believe; if you kill CK, you are f**ked.
Yeps, cow king was never ok to kill if you wanted to remake. Perhaps you were just under beating hell when you killed King, then made it when you were finally done Hell and were confused. Like person above me said, you were always fucked if you killed King.
Ah I remember doing my ama with Buriza + whatever that mask was with 30% life and mana leech on cow level with multishot = infinite health and mana :D
actually up until patch 1.02 you could still make portal if you killed the king
Didn't see any fun in that. Ez mode area, eastern egg meant for visiting once per difficulty, not suppose to be core part of the game.
Also too much exp which was a big problem the whole 1.08->1.09.
1.06 best patch still. :)
1.09 HC US West Zerk Barb Duelers ... good times got me a few good ears
Ive quit d2 for close to 15 years, but Frozen orb sorceress and whirlwind barb will never be forgotten.
Son, no one really used WFs even back then. Ith bows and CBs were real big back then.
enjoyed the video. I started playing seriously around 04 so it's nice to hear how it all played out. 1.09 sounds like it was amazing lol.
1.09 was absolutely the best. And the server population was very high back then.
R.I.P. Piercing Guided T.T
Enigma was the worst thing that ever happened to the game.
Buriza with guided arrows was dope
I remember some transition between the 1.09 and the latest versions with those crazy runeword who gives people spells from other characters. I remember people who get those same old items but with countless ammounts of sockets and crazy overstatted jewels and occy rings n stuff. Thats what ruined the game before the newer items came out. It was actually the worst period of time. I remember having a very competitive sorceress and overnight, I was shit. The latest items kind of brought back the essence of the game. Still, nothing beats 1.09. If they do a remastered version of 1.09 with some new stuff, i'm gonna cry.
someone should make a 1.09 private server
i'd join, no bots allowed, no dupes, bring back pvp rules and tournaments from euro-pvp.net
@@Unnefable That game would sell billions of copies.
You guys realize you could always play 1.09 in Single Player mode, don't you? You just need to install the game from original discs and apply patch 1.09, which can surely be found and downloaded from somewhere. As long as you keep away from Battle.net, you will stay at version 1.09 ;)
@@AlexeiVoronin Yea its the keeping away from B.net part I dont like. I dont wanna farm for items if they wont be used to kick people's asses ;)
1.09 was the BEST D2: LOD ever!
absolutely
Do you play 1.09d on VPN and LAN? are there any communities where do play those older versions?
There is a private server for 1.09
@@Rumblingbelly info bro
If I recall correctly, 1.10 added the possibility to buy mana potions in shops (that was major!) and skill synergies. That completely changed the game indeed. (and runewords too, needless to say). I mostly played 1.10 and beyond (like 95% of the time), but now I kinda wanna try 1.09 or even 1.00 lol
I play classic 1.06b I prefer it to LoD
No way one of the most powerful builds was an orb sorc. Sorcs in 1.09 used either Firewall (MF runs on meph) or Nova (cowruns)
orb was one of the most powerful, they used nova in conjunction with orb and ts, i know because i had one.
Classic d2 was hugely popular in 1.09 and every sorc was orb
The most neglected class in D2 was the Necromancer. There's literally NO runewords (except Bone & White) or actual uniques that make sense for the class. The Nec was just random items from other overpowered builds. Plus the damage is pitiful, the defense is shit, the killing rate was ass, and customizability was dead - summoner was boring, bonemancer was slow as shit, poisonmancer didnt kill with just poison alone. It sucks. I played D2 mostly in the Nec, but I always wanted more.
The fuck you are saying
Necromancer is one of the easiest classes to start ladder with and finish hell by yourself easily (one of the fastest too), and with decent build you can almost match a clearing time of hammerdin. Summoner is boring but thats just about every summoner class in every rpg. And poison mancer was great to farm cows back in the days and can be viable as "hipster" build.
I just started playing D2 LoD ladder and I got novamancer. He is wicked fun, and good to play solo, but weak in a large group sadly
You must not understand how powerful the fishymancer truly is.
JokeDeity indeed always first HC char I made every season is fishmancer for MF
CE op.
When I said all of the classes and skills got a boost I meant the synergy trees that's just the way I should have mentioned it. I said at the start of the video I wasn't going into crazy details on the patch. I said to just check the links for the FULL patch notes.1.09 wasn't just about amazons and sorcs Any true d2 veteran will tell you whirlwind barbarian was king.
i strarted this ladder season 2018 in classic. the ww baba in classic with a martel 25x 2h dmg and enough leech brings the old feeling back ;)
You can also play Path of Exile, they have 'cyclone' which is whirlwind.
Or a paladin with fanaticism and zeal :-))
Yea , synergies suck . They messed all.
I can confirm that barbarian could do everything ( but cs ) in any kind of games. I did like 9k with my ww , and back in those times was a lot. With my buffs alone i had 5300 hp. Not the king , but respectable. My friend had the collection of 99 hc barbs.
I almost jizzed in my pants, when I saw the title I thought Blizzard was making a remastered edition of D2.
Yeah actually. Pre-Expansion Post 1.10
Expansion really changed the original game massively.. maybe even more than 1.10.
I'm a 1.08 guy myself. 1.09 came with a lot of improvements, but just as many nerfs. I'm looking at you, Stormshield
You forgot 1.12a where gamble bug, you can gamble unique higher rate than farming for it
1.09 Amazon with Balista was a monster, with Hydrabow she was unstoppable! 1.09 was undoubtedly the best version of the game.
you explained ONE big difference between 2001-2003 and 2004-2017 diablo 1. Runewords.
Ryan Kirkpatrick
Standard Oblivion Knights in the Chaos Sanctuary had Iron Maiden up until patch 1.13.
1.10 killed it for me having my 2 best chars suddenly being useless in hell was a pretty annoying thing after building them up for years
1.10 was a big patch for LOd players. Those of us who played classic it did nothing but hinder our experience
Like a lot of the comments below 1.09 was a great patch - unfortunately with one major flaw - that doesn't seem to be mentioned much if at all. The Necromancer was largely a curse bitch in it. If you love the Necro - 1.09 does it no justice. 1.10+ rectified that.
I survived "the rust storm"
The most hated thing was the ladder. We ( a group of 15 from same city in italy + 5 canadians ) have played togather for 2 years in HC . I can stand monster increase and runewords. But this way 2 years of 20 people's life had been nullified. And than we all stopped to play , we restarted one month ago.
Damn RUclips for recommending D2 videos!
Now I have to buy the game again...
There goes my free time
Exactly what happened to me now 2 weeks ago. A D2R video came up and I was like okay it’s on!
+Xtimus
Thank you for the information, and the compliment.
Saying 1.10 caused people to not want to buy the expansion is ridiculous considering the large majority of the player base already had it
The good ole days!!!
I had a 1.09 lvl 95 Hybrid zon with ethereal titans, shaftstop, vamp gaze, storm shield, constricting ring and wind force
Dont forget about tppk! Biggest change for HC players
I played SO MUCH
1.09 as a kid. I’ve had to completely re learn gearing and grinding areas now
fuck, im proud to be a true D2 fan and veteran.. started with the hexes, white rings, and white gloves.. then it was the time where death cleaver zealers were the shit.. then runewords came and changed the game forever.. had my 90 smiter with eth HOZ, beafy ass barb, 92 windy druid.. good times
You also forgot about the blood golem/iron maiden Necro, which got destroyed by the newer patches.
Now I'am starting to Play Diablo 2 again for not playing for maybe 7 years or more... so thanks for your video... it help a lot....
Am I the only one who doesn't remember when they started playing lol.
Same lmao
Naw I remember. Especially when 1.09 dropped and many items became a lot more awesome.
I really have a lot of nostalgia about that patch, Frenzy barbarian wasn't nearly as bad as it is in 1.10+, and a lot of builds were playable untwinked, but when I start playing I can't get past some of the QoL changes, like Mana flasks at vendors, or Battle Orders buffing current health instead of max, stronger faster leveling Hirelings etc.
anyone remember lvling their lvl 1 chars in uber trist with hammers killing skeletons as they spawned in? xd
suffered101 yeah buddy, levels coming in so fast you couldn't even spend the points for the first 60 levels. Good times.
i use to like it very much ... if you just want new hero it was so easy ;] ... just 1 hour in and you go 86lvl.... ofc its impossible now ;( thats why i wont start to play again...
I remember doing that all the time
Can't find what would be so fun about it. Idea of the game is to level up and build your character. IF you do it solo self found in hardcore .. even better.
Before Expansion (LoD) leeching was not working at all. Even if you were 60 and your friend 80 .. the lvl 80 would get almost all the exp. So you had to be inside 10 levels.. preferably inside 5 levels with party members.
u want access ? costs 20 fg :-))
Screw 1.10. I played single-player offline, and all my characters were ruined by that stupid patch. I might as well have just deleted everything and started over, except now I had to devote all my skill points into synergy bonuses rather than actually having, y'know, secondary skills. So I just plain quit.
1.09, was the best. We didnt even play the game, we just scammed people constantly every minute in the game, pickit, teleportation amulets etc
wow, people talking about patch 1.10 like it was the apocalypse or something... it just changed the game and I'd argue that was necessary because if there wasn't a 1.10 patch all of you would be saying "remember when Blizzard made the 1.09 patch and they just abandoned the game until it became boring"
1.10 had it's pros and cons but it wasn't bad by any means
fact is that even if you create an amazing game it's still gonna get boring after a while if there isn't anything new in it
1.07 was the game changer for me.
Are people still playing This? I love this game
