When we discuss hair loss treatment for men the debate Finasteride vs. Dutasteride will surely crop up sooner than later.
Hair loss can be a distressing concern, and finding the right treatment is crucial. In this video, we'll compare these two popular options - Finasteride and Dutasteride - to help you make an informed decision.
Both Finasteride and Dutasteride are FDA-approved medications known for their effectiveness in tackling male pattern hair loss. I will explore their mechanisms of action, potential benefits, and supercharging Finasteride with Dutasteride to obtain a host of benefits by combined usage. If you're wondering about hair regrowth, we've got you covered with a comprehensive analysis of how Dutasteride and Finasteride stack up against each other and how they fare in combination.
I will touch upon the science behind these treatments, how they work to inhibit DHT (dihydrotestosterone), and how this relates to hair loss prevention.
Join us as we break down the pros and cons of both options and provide insights into long-term effects, effectiveness, and what you can realistically expect. If you're seeking solutions for hair loss, this video is your go-to resource. Don't let hair loss diminish your confidence - learn how these treatments can potentially help you regain control.

52 year old male in excellent health. I have been on 1 mg Finasteride for 20 (twenty) years. Since it first came out. No breaks. Two years ago I added oral minoxidil at 2.5 mg twice daily. This really helped thicken my hair! I noticed nothing on topical minoxidil.
Thinking that I must have developed a resistance to finasteride over 20 years of constant use. I had my dht levels tested and they are on the low end if the scale.
Question: I am strongly considering replacing finasteride with .5 mg dutasteride one day a week. Do you think this might improve my hair?
Thank you for the very informative video!

There are simpler ways to get the effect of oral Finasteride back. Like switch off-switch-on technique, taking it late at night, etc. ruclips.net/video/cPWmhkYEiUw/видео.htmlsi=qgQ_M2oubeswM-rH

@@hairtransplantinindial'm sorry l'm not good at english but if l did understand, if finasteride stops working or if taking finasteride is not enough at slowing down hairloss, the solution would be to keep using finasteride everyday and taking dutasteride once a week (on sunday). Is that what you meant ?

Thanks for the video! I just recently discovered your channel and had to subscribe immediately! I have taken 1mg of Finasteride for 2 years now after a hair transplant. When do you suggest to microdose it to say 0.5mg, 3x a week? I'm on TRT and don't suffer any particular sides, besides while working out taking it my body is less vascular than when I stop taking it, so it seems it prevents my body from burning as much fat or slows down my metabolism when I take it. That's why I was contemplating microdosing Finasteride. What are your thoughts?

Hello doctor, Thank you for imparting such an astounding and authentic information, i have seen many of your videos
I have a question hope you would answer, i have been on finastride since last year the progression of baldness has slowed down but i am still losing hairs especially my hairline is completely miniaturised and lost the density also scalp is a bit visible, so can i start dutastride for 6 months to reverse the miniaturization and stop the hair fall, then i would restart finastride after 6 months,
    Kindly answer!

      Thank you.
Dutasteride should never be used as the first line of treatment. Does not make sense blocking all of your DHT. Hormones are there in the body for a reason. Try once a week Dutasteride 0.5 mg in place of that day's Finasteride dose, after consulting your local doctor.

Hey doc, great video as always and I love the analogies at the beginning of the video. However, I was wondering if you could shed some light and hopefully by doing so I stop shedding hair (I couldn't resist sorry!).
I used Finesteride 1mg daily for a year and saw no results. My hair continued to thin and I was losing the same amount of hairs as I was before starting it. I then switched to dutasteride .5mg daily in August 2022 and have been on it until now. I noticed my hair felt a bit thicker when I switched for a little period however my hair is loss never stabilised as I was losing the same amount of hairs throughout this and continue to do so. This is visibly and physically apparent when looking and touching my hair.
I've had blood tests done and my DHT level us 0.17 and all my other biomarkers are all well and healthy (no deficiencies). Am I just a rare case or have I missed something here?
I have had 0 side effects by the way. Also have had PRP done every 3/4 months for the last 2 years also

Hello from the UK doctor! 🇬🇧
I'm 23 years old and have been on finasteride for 4 years now. Had a great reversal in the first 1-1.5 years but feel as if its slowly lost its efficacy up to year 3 (seeing noticeable miniaturisation). I tried dutasteride mesotherapy which didn't help either so my derm suggested dut .5 once a week with finasteride the 6 other days.
I feel as if I'm experiencing some sexual side effects so I was wondering if coming down to .5 fin daily with .5 dut once a week would be a good idea? My hair loss is very strong, I'm 3 months into the dut 1x a week and I have nothing to show for besides a continuous miniaturisation at the hairline.
    Thank you for your help

Great video, quick question - I have been on Finasteride 1mg and Minoxidil for the past 6 years (from the age of 25) and its stabilised my hair loss greatly, and also had regrowth in the first 3 years, but in the last 2 years the effects are waning and I am losing ground in my temples as they are receding again. The top of my hair is still thick, and I want to get a temple hair transplant, but I also understand that I may have future hair loss in I stay on only Finasteride 1mg.. therefore have been considering adding 1 Dutasteride a week and Finasteride 1mg the other 6 days...
My question is.. do I start using the 1 Dutasteride a week (with Finasteride 6 days) BEFORE I get my temple hair transplant?... or do I wait until AFTER my temple hair transplant when my new grafts have settled to add in the one Dutasteride a week to my Finasteride 6 days?
If you could answer I would really appreciate it. Thanks

One question - I want to add Dutasteride 0.5 a week to my finasteride regimen (6 days a week) as my progress on Finasteride has stalled over 4 years (I initially responded well to Fin), but I hear all of these anecdotal stories that adding Dutasteride once or twice a week to Finasteride can ruin your hairline... my question is in your practice when you have added Dut once a week with your patients, have you ever seen it make the patients hairline look worse than before? Or does it always improve patients hair...

Used both finasteride & dutasteride for 5 yrs each.
Dutasteride defiantly is more effective. My barber told me, my crown started filling in compared to being on finasteride for the previous 5 yrs.
Although at the end of my dutasteride experiment (yr 4-5) , my thyroid TSH levels started rising to around 5-6.
I was forced to start taking levothyroxin 25 mcg daily back in 2008 or 2009.
Presently in 2023, I use 200 mcg daily.
Q of the day is, did the use of finasteride & or dutasteride taken for 5 yrs each destroy my thyroid function alone?
Or did the use of one or both drugs contribute to my thyroid failing along with predisposition in genetics?
This maybe a rare side effect?
Although, I have spoken to 1 doctor in this field, & she did agree that this is what medical science is discovering about the use of DHT blockers.

    • @hairtransplantinindia
      @hairtransplantinindia  11 месяцев назад +1

As far as present knowledge goes, DHT blockers do not affect the thyroid gland and thyroid hormones.

@@hairtransplantinindia Mm, my advice would be to research this subject more thoroughly Dr. Bhatti.
I know there is literature on the internet that points to DHT blockers interfering with thyroid function.
Maybe I am predisposed to a failing thyroid (hypothyroidism)?
& dutasteride sped up the process?

@@hairtransplantinindia My blood pressure started raising in my 30's from 120's to 130's over 80. Took DHT blocker from 1999 (24 yrs old) to 2009 (35 yrs old)
From appx 2007 to today, Blood pressure raised from normal 120's / 80 to 150's - 160's / 80 without medication to lower BP.
Hopefully, DHT blocker long term effects does not raise blood pressure?
Lastly, I attempted to get back on Finasteride a few yrs after quitting dutasteride back in 2009.
The side effect hit me within 1 hr. I felt nauseous & basically terrible.
Same sort of effect happened to me while using Dramamine in the Navy while out at sea for 1 two wk deployment & 1 month deployment.
I cannot use dramamine any longer for motion sickness.
Motion sickness medication will actually give me motion sickeness these days.
Probably need to test the motion sickeness "patch" at this point
