Having a pump in my biceps make it harder to do full elbow flexion. I always take my elbow sleeves off for top sets of bicep curls. When doing triceps the pump helps with coming out of the bottom with elbow extension.
For what it's worth I have suspected insulin resistance as well as a chronic inflammatory condition, and I find it impossible to get any stronger in the gym. My programming is just fine but I've been stuck lifting the same weights for the exercises I do for the past several years. After the initial beginner strength and muscle gains, I can't progress any further
