  • Well, I can't buy a formula one car. but i can attempt to build one. in reality it will be closer to a formula 1000 style car. but a man can dream :) just your average dude in an average home with a couple of tools trying his best.

    it might be helpful for you to check out Formula SAE (FSAE) or Formula Student cars. They're college student race cars that are very similar to what you're trying to do, formula style racecar with a motorcycle engine. There's a lot of documentation online that could provide some ideas and/or inspiration from their different design choices. At worst you'll at least see some cool cars. Awesome vid!

      FSAE documentation would be such a great place to start for this project honestly. As someone who is in FSAE, I can see a lot of things I wouldn't do in building the chassis just because the math doesn't work and the car might break down. He should've started with the tyre selection and gone from there instead of building the chassis first XD

Measure and record as many point-to-point references (front/rear, left/right, up/down, multiple angles to different points, etc) as you can. This will help with suspension design/fabrication.

    I did a good bit of work on my schools FSAE car, here are some though. The first year of our club we built our car the same way you are, building the chassis then designed everything else around it. It’s counter intuitive but you should really design and build the chassis around the major sub systems. The most important place to start, in my opinion, is suspension geometry. First, figure out what wheels/hubs/uprights you are using. Second think about how you want the car to handle, this will inform the camber, caster, toe, king pin inclination, Ackerman, and so on. Once all those are decided, the A arms basically design themselves. At which point the chassis just has to connect the dots as rigidly as possible. Either way, you’re tube bending and notching is beautiful.

    • @Boostedlifestyle
      @Boostedlifestyle  Год назад

      That actually makes sense! I appreciate the insights. In actually horrible at preplanning and I have no insight in suspension geometry 🤣

    • @jeremiearbour-gonthier9860
      @jeremiearbour-gonthier9860 Год назад +1

      @@Boostedlifestyle 100% start with suspension. I do vehicle dynamics in FSAE too and this will literally make or break the design. I would advise doing some research on basic suspension kinematics (instant center, roll center, pitch center, virtual swing arm, etc) because there are some things that can’t be fixed with a setup change! And I will add to that first comment that you might want to look into an adjustable ackermann geometry going from anti-ackermann to pro-ackermann, as it is purely influenced by the tire. That means if you don’t have a tire behaviour model, you might not get much grip out of your tires if your ackermann is the wrong way!

      -2. Very Powerful, Fast, Quick motorcycles have from 500 cc -1000 cc also 1200 cc engines ->such Your F1 Kart with such an engine will be similar
      -3 Also, many Dirt motorcycles use 125-250 cc engines and are very powerful, fast, quick,
      -4. Thus this F! Kart has the potential to be similarly powerful, fast, quick and requires much thought about saftey including brakes, passenger, traction, steering, suspension, etc.

      -6. Consider the G1 racing vehicle, which is very similar chassis with F1, uses a 1000 cc motorcycle engine, 201 HP: www.af1racingaustin.com/griiip-inventory/griiip-g1
      D. It would seem to be reasonable, logical for You to first develop a proper vehicle chassis, drive train, working vehicle-Kart, using a smaller, lower power engine, drive train before proceeding to one with a larger size, more powerful engine.
      My hope is this would, could, will be helpful, useful, assist, beneficial for You to have improved access to, with, within Your thoughts, ideas, concepts, creativity, imagination, visualization and thus pre-planning, planning, design, development, fabrication.

The halo has since been introduced to take as much of the impact too now but that arch looks good to me.

    AutoCAD is an amazing tool for making design decisions while still promoting creative freedom. In fact that thumbnail for this video looks just like the one I made in SOLIDWORKS back in 2010 for this exact same idea. You are willing to spend about 10k for the drivetrain components I would highly recommend the BMW M1000r, though I designed mine around the S1000r which was the best stock 1000cc motor that existed 12 years ago. Couple that to a magnesium housing chain drive diff with carbon fiber CV axles then add in a couple high torque/speed solenoid actuators (for paddle shifters or course) and you'll have yourself a supercar killer for under 20k.
    If you plan on making this street legal I'd be happy to share a TON more info with you as that part is what killed my dream car...

      Just finished watching it. It looks great!! I wonder if blueprints of even old F1 cars are available online somewhere? Also I wonder what type of materials they use to build the frame? Please tell if you use any software for 3D modelling? Anyway I can only dream of being able to start such project. I need bigger place and proper tools. PS: I'll watch pt2 and pt3 tomorrow.

    You haven't looked far into single seater design have you. The gauge of those tubes is mental. You want to start with 4130 inch round 1mm wall.

    1000cc engine set inline with chassis, direct drive off gearbox output with a splined yolk adapter, short stub shaft with u joints into an LSD diff and IRS? Maintains the bike trans and clutch 🤔 also might help to look at how some of the drive trains are built in Crosskarts

    I think a gsxr 600/750/1000 engine would work good for this. Not too expensive to buy and maintain. Hoping you could make it work. High revving definitely. Cjeers

    There are some rough schematics and blueprints out on the inter webs. Mostly the front channel is a narrow triangle and the rear is a shallow triangle.

    My first thought with that kink in the pipe is that in a serious enough crash the car could 'banana-up' on you. I know it seems sturdy, but if you are putting a 1000 in it, this thing will go 100mph+ easily.

    Not sure the engine you are thinking of using but in the US at Harbor Freight we have a V-Twin engine... Not sure how much your rig will weigh but it would be nuts on a go kart!
