What a surprise: starting at 16:11 special guest, tenor-sax giant Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis switch from Oscar Peterson´s trio to organist Jackie Davis. Videos with Jackie Davis are true rarities! Sadly he used not an orginal Hammond tonewheel organ here. As a Hammond endorser and demo organist for contemporary instruments he played a Hammond Concorde organ with LSI ("Large Scale Integrated") tone generator. He also recorded the album "Lady Time" with Ella Fitzgerald and Louie Bellson for Pablo in 1978 with that organ. At $10,000 (adjusted for inflation approxim. $75,000 in 2024) the Concorde with built in Leslie speaker, cassette recorder and some other extras was terrible expensive and heavy like a B3 (approxim. 350 lbs) but did not sound jazzy. Far away from the B3 or the BC tonewheel models that Jackie Davis used in earlier years. The Hammond Concorde was made from 1972 to 1978. Like the B3000 fortunately most of these thin sounding LSI-monsters of the 1970´s were gone to the junkyard soon because of poor quality. Today you can get one from eBay for a handful of Bucks or for free...
Oscar was my favorite jazz pianist, and Lockjaw is top five tenor players. GREAT concert. Looks like 'Jazz at the Smithsonian' broadcast on PBS in the 80s.
