Hey Noel, Chilean here!, thank you for coming down to Puerto Williams, i gotta say that there is another little town called "Puerto Toro" which is the southernmost inhabited place in the world! (Not counting Antarctica, which we have a base down there that you can get to), you can get there by boat from Punta Arenas or Puerto Williams!.
Yep, Antartica has the McMurdo Station at near 78 degrees south since continuous 1956 (seasonal pop 153-1,000 says wiki). At the pole there's Amundsen-Scott with about 40-150. Maybe Noel should have included at least a more detailed mention than he did.
@@BobGeogeo, those bases in Antarctica don't have *permanent* inhabitants. I mean, there's always someone there, but scientists and other staff stay there for limited periods at a time and then are replaced (or not) by others. Nobody has their own home there. By contrast, Puerto Williams and Puerto Toro are actual settlements where people live permanently and have their homes there, and as such they're really the southernmost in the world.
@@goytabr Actually you can go to Villa Las Estrellas, which is a Chilean Base/Town in Antartica
@@bnsrsa, if I have money and want to buy a house in Villa Las Estrellas, can I? Will I have the deed of the property? Or is everything there the property of the Chilean government/armed forces? If it is, then that's not a real town or settlement, it's just a glorified camp.
I saw the title and thought for sure you were on a mission to mend British/Argentine relations and make up for the Top Gear fiasco
This shit got me dead lmao, gotta love how Clarkson can’t ever keep himself out of controversy
H982 FKL gotta love 90s Porsche’s 😉
@@alancobbin according to May it was the only 944 in the colour they wanted so they had to take that licenseplatenumber
Why would anyone want to make up for the Top Gear ‘fiasco’? Never trust the Argies 😂
Top gear fiasko? Coolest episode ever
And this video is once again why you are far and above the best at what you do. Taking us to places far away and mostly unknown. Great job once again Noel.
Look at that a BAe 46!!!. I used to build them in the aeroplane factory at Hatfield.
You did a great job.
So did I, started on the shop floor, ended up in Customer Support, great years and great memories.
Was a Woodford boy on the 146, fitted the avionics in the cockpits, those were the days.
@@Dreamweaver787 Served my apprenticeship at Woodford 1966-71, worked for 13 years on the 146 at Hatfield
Woodford at Hatfield built some wonderful aircraft
Small airports are the best airports. Civilised no queues, no chaos
How cool, a classic BAe 146! What a beautiful view of those Lycoming engines dangling on the wing, something many of us will never get to see again. I worked on the ramp at Washington Dulles for Air Wisconsin in the early 90s and I used to work this aircraft. Hard to believe this is a 40 year old airplane, it looks very well maintained and cared for, and they are such a unique aircraft. Thanks for bringing back some good memories Noel.
The things Noel sees - trucks towing planes, a cow in Australia. That old woman sat next to him on the plane seemed to be thinking: Is this the YT guy who once tried to check in a sausage? I suppose, given the latitude, not too surprising how cold it is there. Great video - and imminent congratulations on 600K subs.
Puerto Williams is actually at a Southern latitude (about 55ºS) equivalent to Belfast or Copenhagen in the Northern Hemisphere, yet the climate there is more like Northern Norway. This is because Western Europe is warmed by the Gulf Stream, while Puerto Williams doesn't have anything to warm it and is directly exposed to the frigid Antarctic polar winds and sea currents. Most areas at 55ºN outside of Western Europe (as in Canada or Siberia) are even more frigid.
It’s a real pleasure to see an “experienced “ aircraft that has been so well maintained! I have to admit some of those junkers you have flown in the past ,would to me be terrifying! Safe travels.
Hi Noel I worked on this plane in Chile in 2008. The plane was in Santiago for months. That plane was in excellent condition and the check went well. I was there 11 weeks and really enjoyed Chile. I made good friends whom i am still in contact with. Love your content. Keep up the good work.
13:40 ahhhh! great british humour! you just can't beat it 😆
The ppl at the airport were very nice and the security check was very fast and easy. Nice
Not a lot of terrorists wanting to go there I guess
Oh I'd been excited to see this one and wow incredible! The flight, the destination, everything! Love the shiny cowlings on the engines, especially with the reflections as you come in to land, brilliant! I have a fair idea where you'll be going next ;)
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@noelphilipsare you able to visit the Falkland Islands at all? That’ll be an epic adventure ❤
Logically, I would expect you to try to reach Svalbard next - would at least be an interesting challenge to get there as fast as possible.
Hmmmmmmmm......
Svalbard belongs to my country Norway.Welcome Noel, and bring a weapon with you if you intend to sleep in one of the wilderness cabins , ice bear attacks are common there.
What a steal! That chair alone made the room worth $400😆
That elderly lady was getting pretty cozy
What I was thinking... Looked like the Isle seat was empty too... Would've told her to move! 😉
14:30 thank you for sharing these videos you traveling so far so often brings me a lot of comfort and shows how unafraid of travel we all should be in this day and age! You truly are a RUclips gem we are all so glad to have you to watch and motivate us to live life!
Love the cheeky innuendos in all your vids.
“Hung” … 😂
In your end oh...
Longyearbyen, Svalbard is hopefully the last stop!
So glad to see a BAe-146! Brings back childhood memories of the summer flights I used to take with my family from the SF Bay Area to John Wayne - Orange County Airport in the mid-80s aboard them with PSA (Pacific Southwest Airlines). USAir later inherited them and recall flying on a former PSA BAe-146 in USAir transitional colors which were bare metal with a red and orange cheatline. I flew PSA a lot back in those days. I wonder if I flew aboard that very airplane.
I used to fly the BAe 146 from London City airport to Frankfurt or Amsterdam on BA Cityflyer back in the late 2000s, usually the first flight of the day as well and there would never be more than 10 of us onboard not counting the crew. It was always a riot and we could have all of the food and even London Prides and Guinness cans we wanted even if it was 7:30am while nothing was taken too seriously minus safety of course. It was peanuts return as well, cheaper than low cost and you wouldn't have to get to and from Stansted or Gatwick either.
Good times, good memories.
Nearby Ushuaia is my favorite small town in South America! ❤ The weather can be crazy though, changing from one season to another every hour.
I was once in Ushuaia. It was January (the height of summer in the Southern Hemisphere), yet the warmest temperature I got there was 10ºC, and it got as low as 3ºC - *in summer!* There were lots of snow on the hills around the city, and those were not very high hills. Yet it was definitely one of the most stunningly beautiful places I've ever been to.
Ushuaia is wonderful.
Im glad you finally made it to the most southern available airport in the world!! I dont know if have made the most northern airport in the world, but that should be in your bucket list Noel!
My uncle just came back from skiing in Chile. He went for 2 weeks. Loved every minute of it. They have boats from where you are to Antarctica. It takes about 2-3 days.
You should try the ABC islands and enjoy some warm sun after this one . Love these videos, keep um coming
That "Baaaaai!" in the beginning was so cute! Also, love that Ram
Great to see you on Chile , was funny the andean background music, which is typical from the North of Chile, which is some 3,000 km north 😅
I know all the obstacles can be a pain but your adventures are things most of us can never do for various reasons. You should be very proud of what you’re doing because you’re giving pleasure to. We will have to live our lives vicariously through you. Well done enjoy
Thank you for your kind words.
I loved flying on the 146 way back in the early 90's. It was the favoured plane on the airUK route Edinburgh to Amsterdam. Just brilliant. Great wee airline as well
Looks like a cross between Norway and Scotland. Loved this!
Brilliant video Noel. Your sense of humour is amazing & makes these videos
Glad you think so!
Like the attention to detail Noel...showing the Dash 8 scrapping its bum....👍🏻
Noel just a suggestion, maybe switch where the words extreme and southernmost are with each other. Amazing video by the way.
Hi Noel, just to let you know if you try to watch this video through you tube app on a tv it’s in a foreign language and doesn’t let you select English!
Good to see the HS146. I worked on the carbon brake discs for those at Dunlop in Coventry back in the 1980s.
My dad worked in aviation at Dunlop in Coventry
My goodness, surprising us all with each new destination!
Noel, I get it that it's cold but you willingly chose to fly there-please embrace the cold don't complain about it :). Was genuinely a pleasure to see such a retro aircraft in such good shape.
CONGRATS NOEL ON 600KSUBS!!!CHEERS MATE!
I used to work on the BAE 146 when I worked the ramp for Air Wisconsin in the early 2000’s .. great aircraft .. flew it a couple of times from GJT to DEN and ASE to DEN .
The amiability, joy and will for living of both the check in counter and lounge staff is amazing 😂😂😂😂
The 146..... I remember it well from my raf days when it was part of the queens flight at raf benson
Hey Noel, thanks for making sure to always provide the most interesting travel destinations, and even more interesting currency conversions, in your videos. I love air travel, but sadly rarely have the time and money needed, so your channel always provides a good distraction from the boredom of everyday life!
Glad you like them!
Been on a BAe46 many years ago-lovely little plane.Noel you need a warmer Coat! Love the decorative bog rolls.Very entertaining as per usual.
Glad you enjoyed it
This channel deserves more subs. Amazing content/challenges across the world to keep us entertained. Keep it up! 😍
You always manage to both produce something away from the norm and make it feel as if I was actually with you. Brilliant. Oh and so kind of you to bring your grandma along on the flight!!!!
😂
This was absolutely fantastic. Puerto Williams. My brother was there approximately 46 years ago while he was an exchange student in Brazil. The family he was staying with for 1 year had a holiday cottage down in that area of Chili. I wouldn't mind visiting it one day. Looking forward to next adventure Noel
He was there in 78?? Right when Chile and Argentina almost went to war because of islands next to Puerto williams
wow an old TNT 146 QT used to dispatch them out of Cardiff to Liege nice bit of nostalgia Summer 2006
We also got them at GOT, Sweden, Everybody hated to load them. But what an awsome little machine it was!
I think you’re officially a Texan considering how cold you were. That could be a drinking game the amount of times you said it. 😅 So looking forward to your Svalbard video! ☃️ Been watching Cecilia and Grim videos from there for a while. Happy Travels!
Awesome locations,Noel, always entertaining 😊
Noel is not really an adjusting or accommodating person but still he puts up with all just to give us some valuable content. You sir have earned my subscription.
Thank you & welcome.
@ btw didn’t know how you could take the 6 day bus journey, it would have made the sanest person go insane
I am glad you put a hat on your head noel .in that cold weather .stop the icicles forming on your head LOL.
Last time I was on a 146 was on Jersey European. Utterly LOVED those aircraft. Miss them so much. That howl when the flaps first go down is still the best.
You're right about the flaps - unique sound of these. Used to fly on the v similar avros ... Nice aircraft!
So glad that Lord Noel wore his wooly hat towards the end. Would Hate to see him sick due to snow. Loved the video, Lord Noel! Take Care, Thank you.
Love a Noel Phillips video on a Sunday ❤️
Wow! A former Flightline 146 that’s still flying today! I remember seeing the Flightline fleet of 146s at Southend in the mid 2000s and I really feel they were the trigger point for my love of aviation that I have had ever since. Great video Noel!
Unbelievable adventure!❤ The thrill of the journey had me hooked from start to finish. Thanks for taking us on this incredible trip-what an unforgettable destination! ☺
Glad you enjoyed it!
3:31 Swiss airlines had also this plane * they call it THE JUMBOLINO
I love the places you take us Noel…snow and cold weather included. Always fabulous to watch your vids ❤❤❤
Glad you like them!
Oh I might have ground handled that 146! I worked for Air Wisconsin way back in the mid aughts when they were flying into Aspen IIRC out of Milwaukee. It's the only four engine plane I've ridden on and I love the little guy! Edit: I wonder if they're operating it for it's STOL capability?
Así es, su capacidad STOL es bastante útil cuando hacen sus vuelos a la antártica. Por cierto, hace muchos años un 146 de LAN patinó sobre el hielo en Puerto Williams y fue a dar al mar.
Amazing adventure, looking forward to your video of Svalbard which is the northern most airport.
Hope you're considering doing one of the Antarctic sightseeing flights from here in Australia.
The video is just perfect It must have been a great experience, honestly it makes me want to go and explore this part of the world
Brilliant video again Noel, you are going up the levels with the content, absolutely perfecto... 👌
Thanks a ton!
@@noelphilips Noel the follow up video was just as brilliant, but next time bring a coat 🌨❄❄ lol... looked damn cold ❄❄. Keep up the good work, look forward to the next one. Much appreciated. 👌
Never knew that place existed. Thanks Noel for taking us with you!
The fact that we get free videos on RUclips by Sir Noel Philips is truly a gift.. Keeping knowledge & entertainment alive. 👍🤷
That's Lord Noel Philips to you!
14:44 The part about "when you think of spanish speaking countries you usually think of warm countries" is strangely true. And Telenovelas.... which also typically also happen in more tropical settings.
Noel, just a shout out for how you have developed in both your video production and how you come across on camera. I recently jumped back to an old video you did five years ago on Virgin's 787 (as I'm dreaming of winning a bid-for-upgrade to UC), and your development to today is really noticeable in the videos. Well done on investing so much - it is clearly paying dividends. Keep it up!
Thank you for your kind words.
Noel! Congrats on 600k Subscribers!! 🥳 1 million here you come! In the words of Michael Scott, “Is it better to be feared or loved? Easy, both. I want people to fear how much they love me.” 😅 Congrats!
Love those old BAe-146s and Avro RJ's, so cool flying on a 4 engine regional jet. Haven't been on one in a very long time now, flew on a Northwest Airlink (Mesaba Airlines) AVRO RJ-85 DFW-MSP in 2005, and a United Express (Air Wisconsin) BAe-146-300 DEN-MSO-DEN back sometime around 2003 or 2004.
It’s so cold 🥶 I’m dreaming of Nassau Bahamas 🇧🇸 It’s really cold. Much warmer thoughts Noel. Much Love & Warmth. ❤️❤️❤️
Haha Noel you legend, when you mentioned the chair I started to say I have a chair and the borat clip played 😂😂😂
From the End of the World to the North Pole next week perhaps? I’m getting Top Gear vibes! Looking forward to it, Noel!
Next time to TNM, quite a bit further South. Not the cheapest but a fun place to land on the short gravel runway 🐧
Great video, Noel. I remember taking a flight with my aunt and uncle from Gatwick to Bern in Switzerland in about 1991 as a 10 year old in a Bae146 - used to love those planes as a kid!
Nice one Noel am actually sooper jealous of this vlog so thanxs for doing the suffering of the cold to bring us this vlog 😊😊😊
Another great adventure Noel - really enjoyed it. Chile is on my bucket list of places to visit. Maybe in summer.
That looked damn cold! We were in Ushuaia two years ago and they make a big deal about being the southern most city in the world, so not true it seems..... we did take the railway to the end of the world, looks like that one might still be accurate.
Hi Noel! Nice to know you're in my Country! Well.If you ever want to see a really beautiful place, please, go to Puerto Natales (Aerovías DAP has a connection over there), and there, ask for a ride down to the "Cuernos del Paine" and the "Torres del Paine" system of mountains, rivers, lakes and glaciers. Believe me: it is a jaw dropper. Something to never forget. Much more beautiful than Puerto Williams.
Great vlog as always! You need a Southern Comfort my friend. Lol! Keep up the good work. Be safe!
I’m not a bad person I’m really not but I’m sorry at exactly 4:25 I roared with laughter.
11:31 it's my wife in the video ! haahaha Nice trip and hope enjoy my extreme city, regards !
Welcome to Chile!
Always interesting videos. Another job well done.
What a coincidence! I booked my flight to Puerto Williams just 2 weeks ago. Will hike the southernmost trek in the world. Thanks for sharing:)
You are one of the luckiest people. You get to do all this extremely cool stuff for a living.
Literally cool! 🥶
Well.that was a gem.of a video today down to the end of the world 🌎 xx
My goodness, a BAe 146! Used to fly those a lot on AirUK! Loved those planes! Jealous that you got to fly on one with such a beautiful livery!
Another enjoyable and interesting video Noel. What a lovely aircraft the BAE 146 was. Apparently this particular aircraft all have a very spacious flightdeck for a small regional jet. I must say I had to laugh at your very chatty passenger sat next to you ! 🙂
Another great video and an insight into part of the world that few travellers visit. Good to see that Chile was living up to its name.
You should get a hat.
It might be cold, but that sun will still burn that noggin.
you didn't watch the video did you
This should be called: Noel Philips Airport or Aeropuerto Noel Felipe 😊
😂
Thank you for taking me to places I'll never be able to go! I enjoy watching your trips very much!
Great video Noel, what an incredible adventure!
Glad you enjoyed it!
im an unapologetic noel phillips stan
I flew on the BAe 146 on, of all airlines, Air Wisconsin. Who knows, I may have flown on that one. Love that plane.
Lovely to see a little bit of Puerto Williams in the video today Noel, it's definitely a part of Chile I'd like to one day visit. Hope you enjoyed it.
Best video of the week, as usual!
Wow, thanks!
lol on my way to Houston this morning. Thanks for the videos. Safe travels
Oh, that's cool! I've got a nostalgia!
I love that aircraft, I only got to fly on her once with QantasLink though, on a milk run. Darwin - Tennant Creek - Alice Springs - Kalgoorlie- Perth. Tennant and Kalgoorlie weren’t planned, but as Alice was cover in fog, we had to land in Tennant, and then because of a strong head wind from Alice to Perth, we had to land in Kalgoorlie to refuel. Long day but it was great.
Just finished watching your Greyhound from NY to LA video and now watching this. You gained a subscriber! Good content.
Awesome! Thank you!
1st time here. I guess this is about getting to places, rather than seeing the places ❤
