Bicycle kick is usually done when there's no other way to kick the ball. As a player you have to feel when is the right moment. When you look at that Rooney goal there was no other way for him to hit the ball.

The movements that you d know why they do it, is because in the moment that the ball is coming, the feel is: that the ball is coming from an propicius angle to hit the ball quickqly, and to put the leg in a way that the kick do a "right" movement, is necesary make those jumps; that is what i feel when i play and a ball feels right to make those movements

What are you thinking right before a bicycle kick ?
That the high pass is perfect, to kick.Good height, nice speed, defenders are not covering tight enough.
You're not supposed to land flat on your back, but more on your side.
I am a goalkeeper, I don't think about the pain of a big dive sideways. Bicycle kick or goal save, one thing counts; the ball.
