    This ENTIRE class of instruments, (Straylight, Hybrid Keys, Ethereal Earth, Analog Dreams, etc) is where Native Instruments is now REALLY knocking it out of the park! Well done NI! These are PURE PERFORMANCE instruments well suited for live, spontaneous jamming in real time in an electronic musician group setting. These instruments, along with my Machine Mikro Mk3 and my Komplete Kontrol M32, make for the perfect portable live setup. Thanks again NI! Been using your stuff since Generator and Transformator. Yes, I'm old!

    I remember when the Ensoniq and Akai samplers first came out. I was a salesman at Werlein’s for Music in New Orleans. I had some crazy ideas of how do use the sample capability on those machines, but they just wouldn’t work. They glitched and glitched and glitched. However, Straylight and Pharlight have accomplished what I’’ve dreamed of for years. I have kept up my Collectors Eddition for updates and I am so glad I did the update on XIII.

    This is all good and gravy but If one knows synthesis one can create every sound this Instrument offers with a combination of Absynth + Massive and sound fx plugins. Native Instruments REALLY need to focus on making some Vocals-based/Choirs Kontakt libraries. Becuase that is the only department where they are lacking and Komplete Ultimate owners like me have to rely on third-party libraries for vocals & choirs. I hope they will soon release some Kontakt libraries like Output's Exhale plus some Male-female Vocal-Choir libraries.

      I don't think the synths you mention support granular synthesis. Omnisphere could probably do it. It is a bit of a shame you can't drag in your own samples, but the whole point of granular synthesis is to discover microsounds in existing stuff. So I'd probably never get to load my own samples anyway...

      Ankit Sharma your not wrong, but there is an aspect of ‘careful and deliberate curation of sample sources’ with this instrument that I personally like. moving through the library you quickly find exactly the kind of sound you want with exactly the kind of control you want. This is both Kontakt’s Achilles heel and a deliberate decision of the products development. For those into sound designing, cinematic music, game music etc it’s ‘Honey for Bee’s’ Basically it’s un apologetic indulgence in the audio domain. Walk on bye if you can. 🤑

    I couldn't find a contact mail of Frank Elting and NI Germany just doesn't reply, so I'll try here:
    First of all: this plugin is really amazing!
    But... frustrating.
    1. When I take some presets, I can import my own samples in 'sample' but a lot of times NOT in
    grain. And yes, I've tried to open 'grain'-page first but still no possibility to import my own samples (no short ones, no long ones and all in wav of course). The sample page NEVER has this problem.
    2. The grain page is very clear for the rest (how to set max and min, scan etc.) but the sample page is a mystery: a lot of functions or goals are not at all explained in the manual. Nor in the walkthroughs.
    Like: how can a sample be repeated after activating it on one's keyboard? Now, it only plays once. How do I let the cursor move?
    Why, when I open a factory preset, do the movements of the former sample disappear when I import my own samples? E.g. in presets, samples play once and then parts are repeated over and over again (when I hold the key). But when I import my own samples, they only play once and stop. So, what was programmed in the factory presets also disappears. Etc. etc
    3. Isn't there any IN DEPTH and COMPLETE tutorial video about EVERYTHING/all possibilities? (I saw the walkthroughs etc. but they're very incomplete)
    Also in the manual, nothing is mentioned about many possibilities and that is such a shame. I feel the power of this excellent plugin but that results only in frustration because I know what I want but can't do it.

    • @frankelting
      @frankelting 4 года назад

      hi, glad you like the instrument. I can not reproduce the sample import behaviour you describe. Please report a bug to the Native Instruments support. Give the grain sample import a try on the perform page. Does the problem also occur in the Kontakt stand alone version ?
      Note that Kontakt has an info pane integrated where detailed description for every knob is displayed when you hover over the corresponding UI element.
      I assume you refer to the "Bounce Edges" button when you talk about the "Repeat" function. Straylight works very much according to the general principles of granular synthesis. So you should be able to apply all the basics from a granular synthesis tutorial to Straylight.

    I bought this a while ago and still have a lot to learn about its capabilities. The sounds provided are really intricate - you really need headphones to appreciate them. One thing I don't like though is that Straylight is VERY VERY cpu intensive. I have 8 gigs of memory and if I am using any additional instruments when working on a song, Straylight will start glitching and faltering. I'm not sorry I bought this, but it's a bit overpriced. I don't have a lot of money and this was a major investment for me.

      @@NativeInstruments I have 3 Roland keyboards and their new MC-707 groovebox. My FA-06 is my favorite, so I'm not complaining, but I'm just a little surprised. The Rob Papen synths all come with a lot of Roland-inspired-sounding patches, though I care nothing for those synths and don't want them.
      I also have Komplete 13 and the Light trio, and I'm definitely a Native fan, too.

    • @Jason75913
      @Jason75913 3 года назад

      @@NativeInstruments I should add, if y'all don't like Roland sounds, it actually would not hurt for the devs to pick up a JV2080 or 1080 and all the related expansions to use as a point of reference as for sounds to avoid. It is common for me to see patch makers and VST makers try to make "interesting" or "lush" pads, with or without layers, and end up with what sounds like remastered Roland presets. Even with wavetable synths at times.

      @@SheldonTam Granulator II, Emit, Vector grain (M4L Devices), Ableton's built in Simpler is also quite useful, LPX has Alchemy and then there is of course NI's own reaktor user library which has a few gems like GRIP Grain Cloud Synth, Grain Modulator, Weirdo and many more. As soon as we go into payed territory there are many more options, also from NI (including Kontakt of course). My absolute favorite though would probably be UVI Falcon.

But rather than make vocal libraries like fans want or fixing machine's integration & plugin usability/clunkiness/unintuitive design which people have desperately asked for for years now since it is one of your flagship products---NI has instead decided to give us all the middle finger and keeps coming out with more gimmicky products packaged nicely and more hardware we don't need.
