Got distracted by the knife fighting in the left background, because I particularly enjoy sparring like that. Interesting how the knife fighters were both using the ice-pick or "hanger(?)" grip.

The knife fighters are both from the Academy of Steel where we mainly study Fiore and the daggers at the time would have been designed for thrusting attacks (blunt edges) which leads to most of the techniques being of the "ice pick" style.

Matt Easton (channel scholagladiatoria) has some videos on the merits of the ice-pick grip and why it's so popular in medieval treatises.

Esther is dominating Tom today. Those stockings give a confidence boost of +3, probably helps a lot in combat.

Damn, despite Tom having a reach advantage, Esther manages to get in there and score hits!
Goes to show how important skill is.

Pleasure watching practice. Wish I could fence more often. It would be neat to have a spadroon vs xyz series with practice and a bit of a chat after. Like spadroon vs smallsword then spadroon vs backsword etc. I do enjoy Nick and Jay's humor but it is not easy to find videos of spadroons in use nor decent footage of smallswords compared to even just bolognese sidesword. Just a thought. Keep up the great videos!
