The only way to stay committed while throwing a swimbait is to only bring that one rod, only bring your swimbait rod and a few swimbaits. Then you'll start catching em.
My first hudd fish was 9 hrs on the water of throwing it all day. My nephew was done and it was one of those last cast deals. Hooked into a 10.1 and she had 4 with her that were pretty close to her size. Just have to stay committed.
You had a Weedless 68. Drag that thing through the junk. Swimbaits have "draw power", and those bass will come out of the brush to look at/eat it. I've seen it happen hundreds of times in my lakes. Keep that in mind, and good luck next time out with it.
Just came across this channel, I dont sub or enjoy many fishing channels on youtube, but for some reason i find your videos really entertaining. You dont try to go over the top yelling into the mic or shilling products, very down to earth. Looking forward to watching more of your videos in the future as you make em!! Youve officially joined the likes of NDYakAngler, KeyWestKayakFishing, and Richard Gene in my book. Congrats and thanks for uploading the content man!!
Old video but was 👀 for hud videos since I just got a 68👍. I normally throw the savage gear 8in and I barely Drag it. But it works even here in sw fl in ponds 😂.
Gotta work ot Today almost would have been worth skipping just to relax at home this morning an watch the best RUclips fishing channel. Greg u are a awesome fisherman very enjoyable
Just purchased my first kayak yesterday and picking it up Monday got the 10.5 . Gotta thank you for the videos that you uploaded and helped me with the decision. I saw all your videos on the upgrades just wanted to see how you guys actually made the front hatch the way it is now it's perfect. Keep up the great works on the vids 🤙
If you're gonna fish the hudd, fish the 8" and leave all your other rods at home. You have to put it in your mind you're fishing for a few bites (depending on the body of water) and those are quality bites. And if you fish were they stock stay close to the ramps where they dump them and adjacent areas. Keep your head in it. I've never caught anything on the 68 but multiple fish on the 8.
Thanks for sharing vid. I hear about big swimbaits & potential to catch big fish with them. But don't see many videos on how to fish or results with them.
thanks Alex. I'm a beginner with swimbaits so just trying to learn. Yeah, go check out Tacticalbassins' videos. They've got some good videos on how and where to fish them.
Banger video Greg, I’m noticing an increase in video/editing quality so keep it up! Can’t wait to get my big swimbaits I ordered and film a video on them
I've caught just 1 bass on the hud 68 weedless. The video on my channel of it is hilarious. On the other hand I have caught a bunch on the hud shad weedless. Love throwing it in the grass. Actually pitching it in weeds is great.
Im definitely a swimbait fisherman but i feel like they eat huds during beding season. Almost there so just gotta be patient. Another amazing video Greg!
What lakes do you mainly fish. Always hear you say Northern California. What is considered northern? I here it and think Red Bluff and north of that while some say Sac and clear lake area and up?
I was telling myself, "he won't go past 2 hours with the Hudd before switching to finesse." You proved me wrong... 5 hours-ish is impressive. I don't know if I could go that long!
I clicked this pronto because I thought for fun you were targeting rainbow trout. I've been targeting bass, which is why I found you. But only because of transplanting to Georgia a lifetime ago. Otherwise, I'd be going for Steelhead on the Sixes, Elk, or Rogue Rivers. And Rainbows when steelhead aren't running or in season.
referring to why it's loose? mainly the light line and the potential for a big fish to make a run or be skin hooked and pop free. I used to keep it pretty tight and I lost way more fish. I think folks get annoyed with how lose it is but i'd say might hookup to land ratio with these settings are >98% so why change ya know
Greg Blanchard, thanks for the response! I’ve always fished mine very tight, usually just assuming a if the fish was big enough it would pull drag but I had never thought that about losing ones that might just be skinned hooked. Thanks for the info, as always love the videos!
Awesome, YT turned my comments back on. They had disabled comments on this channel as a test for the upcoming coppa crap. I'm subbed to almost 40 channels and yours was the only one they disabled......weird. Beautiful drone shots. 👍👊🎣
dope edits at the beginning man!!! im sorry for this..but the footage of you throwing the trout towards the camera....looks like you're throwing a huge WANG in the water! LOLOLOLOL
Instead of dropping a finesse bait into the grass just drag that weedless Huddleston thru it. Isn't that the reason you got the weedless one? I've yet to try the hudd but I have been using a 8 inch line thru trout lure the last year and I've caught hundreds of bass on it all from my kayak. Just sticking to it and it's paid off. Keep at it. Make it your confidence bait.
Geez dude, nice intro. You are on your way to having a segment on the outdoor channel. Hey I might have missed it, but what rod specifics are you using to toss that?
Thanks Chris! Now that'd be cool. Using the Halo Twilite 7'6'' Heavy rod but like it shows, the reel seat totally broke (I think the threads snapped off). Luckily I had an iROD Genesis 7'7'' flippin rod at home and put the Huddleston on that with the next outing - wow, what a difference. Way better rod with much improved components (specifically the guides). Actually glad the Halo rod bit the dust lol
Hey Greg, very good video regardless of the outcome, big Fan here!! What happened to the Curado that kicked the bucket like you said?? You know you can take them to a Shimano dealer and it could be cheaper than a new one. Keep up the good work!!!
Thanks man! I don't think I had a a curado that kicked the bucket? The rod (specifically the reel seat) broke in this video. All my curados have been pretty good to me so far with a few exceptions. all still working tho!
@@robertyamane9395 Yeah I heard the IMX is awesome. I have the 806, and 795 Fury Series, but I love them. They hold up to my abuse. I throw wakes 85 % of the time, and they're very parabolic. Tacticalbassin speaks highly of the IMX and labels it as a do anything rod. Maybe Tax time. With a Tranx 300.
@@robertyamane9395 There's a JDM rod on TW. A major craft 7 10 inch 3 to 5 ounces with Fuji guides and reel seat. 129 bucks. I might try it. Other wise my next rod will be an F5 mvt. All I really throw now is swimbaits. LOL
I believe your right Greg. To throw that big swimbait and work it so very slowly like that. You definitely have to pretty much know that there's big bass around for it to probably work. Other then that it is a waste of time. I couldn't fish that slowly enough for more then a 1/2hr. 😂Good luck on the tournaments for 2020.🙂
Had my doubts confirmed with those big trout swimbaits. I have one rufuse to use it or throw it away. Dont know anyone who actually catches fishes with those.
it's a time and place bait for sure. Like i said in the video I think the successful huddleston guys out here know where the fish setup to eat the trout they stock in all these lakes. You might get a random fish every so often just blind fishing it but I think it's rare. gotta know what you're doing with these baits for sure
Slooow down there buddy. Reeling way too fast. 6 seconds per handle turn. Plus you are in open water... why are you using a weedless bait.. the hook up percentage is very low on that style so why use it now? The hudd rolls over rocks easy with the top hook.
@@GregBlanchardFishing I would also try the 8 inch rather than the 6 inch. I understand that most people think going smaller will get you more bites and sometimes that is correct. But you are mainly trying to present a big meal. A slow moving big meal. The 8 inch has more draw power and 2 lbers can even eat it. Thanks for the reply and Im a big fan of your channel.
My Halo rod did the same thing dude. Now that ive seen it happen again on VIDEO... im emailing them! If u want me DM you with what they say ill let u know
@tims_always_fishing i know mines older too. Just seen 4 broke halo rods in the last 3 months, 2 were rod seat issues! But i feel ya i know greg will be cool on another rod

you gotta try vertical jigging a blade bait, it's killer in the winter
What type of line and pound test with the 68?
What fish finder is that and how do you like it?
So hard to keep throwing that big bait! Keep trying it will pay off some time! Nice looking day on the water Greg!
