By listening to & applying this advice you agree to take 100% responsibility for all consequences. You agree to waive any legal recourse against Actualized LLC, Leo Gura, and Actualized.org staff. This is not medical or psycho-therapeutic advice. Leo is not a licensed therapist.
Warning: Spiritual work is inherently risky and dangerous if misapplied or misunderstood. Actualized.org teachings are not suitable for people with serious mental disorders such as: suicidal depression, schizophrenia, psychosis, bipolar, drug addiction, or other psychiatric or medical conditions. Leo's teachings assume you have a stable mind and life. If your mind is dysfunctional or ungrounded, these teachings may lead to a deterioration of your condition and even suicide if misapplied. Self-help and spirituality are not substitutes for professional treatment for such conditions. If spiritual work is causing your life to unravel in unhealthy ways, discontinue the work until your mind has stabilized and you are safe. Actualized.org teachings are very advanced and can easily be misunderstood and misapplied. Nothing Leo teaches ever promotes physical self-harm. Any time Leo talks about “facing one’s death” he is NOT talking about suicide or physically harming your body, but rather ego-death and spiritual awakening. Never confuse these two things.
Warning: Psychedelics are inherently risky and dangerous. Only use psychedelics if you are willing to take 100% responsibility for the consequences. Do not take psychedelics if you are too young, too immature, on mind-altering medication, or if you have a mental disorder. By listening to Leo you agree that Actualized.org is not responsible if you misuse psychedelics and injure yourself or others. If you decide to use psychedelics you must exercise extreme caution and carefully follow safety protocols. Leo’s use of psychedelics is always done with extreme caution and attention to safety. Treat psychedelics like a loaded gun. Never use psychedelics chronically. Never take psychedelics in high doses. Psychedelics will not effortlessly solve your deep psychological problems. The less grounded your mind is, the more selfish you are, the harsher psychedelics will be on you. Psychedelics can create deep existential crises. Do not take psychedelics unless you love the idea of deconstructing your mind and reality.

You may believe that there is an old man with a white beard perched in the clouds, that the Ultimate Reality is a young blackish-blue Indian guy, that the universe is eternal, that Mother Mary was a certifiable virgin or that gross physical matter is the foundation of existence.
The ONLY thing which really matters is your meta-ethics, not your meta-physics. Do you consider any form of non-monarchical government (such as democracy or socialism) to be beneficial? Do you unnecessarily destroy the lives of poor, innocent animals and gorge on their bloody carcasses? Do you believe homosexuality and transvestism is moral? Do you consider feminist ideology to be righteous?

I was liberal in the domain of psychedelics till I traumatized myself.
That taught me the conservative approach that I better be 120% sure, secure, feeling safe and grounded before I do them. It also taught me that I was too conservative about other approaches towards spiritual exploration, even though I already considered myself open to all approaches. Having traumatized myself taught me to value a safe and stable state of consciousness which is functional for daily survival, a stable routine, the value of looking out for each other and the value of family support.

True! I have had similar experience. I glorified psychedelics for a while after watching Leo religiously. I spent half a summer on LSD and payed the price. I had little family connection, and recently broke up with a girlfriend of a year (which was the only support I had) The only grounding I really had was school and computer games before that.
My "spiritual journey" with psychedelics, meditation, and self-help (which I despise now) was definitely more of an attempt to escape reality rather than face parts of myself I didn't like... I was met with psychosis. I had little to no grounding in reality. I couldn't hold a job or even speak to my immediate family about the way I felt, it was too frightening.
I felt like a dreadful emptiness. Complete alienation from the world. God, what a horrible feeling. I didn't realize it at the time but it was very traumatic. Not only was there psychosis, but went on to cause a lot of internal stress due to no stable routine or connection. I also suffered from an eating disorder, and crippling fear to speak out. I'm dealing with the effects years later. (cPTSD?)
I believe I have symptoms of borderline personality though I don't completely identify with the disorder. Sometimes I thought I was schizophrenic --- maybe I was to a minor degree (often heard voices, usually self-critical, that many times prevented me from going out, socializing, or even looking at strangers)
I'm studying psychology, on my second year. Immersing myself as a student which I must say has been a very helpful (and making connections on campus) as well as the ability to hold a job and to embrace the challenges that come with that. I now find myself thinking in an intellectual, insightful, solution-orientated way which is grounding in itself (rather than reacting cyclically to the stress and emotions, along with the blaming and shaming...)
I've ranted on long enough. I guess I really wanted to get this stuff off my chest. Thanks

I realized that Fear can really be a guide. Where there is a viceral Fear is exactly where you want your mind to go. I’m a conservative who grew up in a third world country and immigrated to US as an adult and I find I literally can’t shake off conservatives values, it’s really like the world just doesn’t make sense another way so maybe there is such a thing as the conservative brain.
Luckily for me being conservative doesn’t stop me from relating to non conservative and I have no problem understanding why people think differently. I’ve noticed that one fundamental thing that differentiates the ideologies is how self definition is done. The liberal mindset is that you can be an individual on your own, you get to define who you are and even decide what’s best for you and somehow whatever you chose is right because you are true to yourself. Conservatives, especially religious ones don’t believe that. For example in my country when you write out your full name, it’s your last name and then your first name, and that’s significant because the social understanding is that you are just another branch in the family tree and you are defined by the society around you and that society has already figured out the most productive and beneficial way to live, and it’s your duty to learn it and embody it, so that the next branch in the tree is just as strong as the previous one. Strong families makes strong society so families creation and values are extremely important. Which is why conservatives really don’t are about rights that don’t benefit family creation, like abortion rights, transgender and gay rights and to some extent feminism.
Also conservatives don’t prize beliefs that are held for the sake of happiness because happiness is not a value to be chased because it too individual and loosely defined for anyone to spend their lives chasing that, you want to chase solid things that stand the test of your emotions and other whims.
I also notice that the liberal mindset does not ask “what happens if everyone does this” but will happily accept ideas so long as the person is happy whereas conservatives ask that question in their mind first and make their decision based on what they think will happen if everyone actually accepts a new idea.
Now imagine someone who really truly believes these ideals and thinks these way, how much do you think things like choosing your gender, being irreligious, being child free will make sense to them. It going to be VERY hard and uncomfortable.
Of course there are numerous holes in the conservative ideology and I thank God the entire world is not all conservatives but I did try to live my life liberally when I was in college in order to fit in and those two years where the most miserable and depressing periods of my life. I’m genuinely happier living my life as a conservative and I have no problem relating to others because I’m high enough on agreeableness to still relate well with others.

A couple things came to mind, one in particular stuck out to me. The more I listento your content the more understanding I seem to find about every day things. One thing that came to mind was a kind of conservative science.
When you talk about science you quite obviously are very open and so have a very different, I would say liberal scientific bent, whereas a lot of the science I see, and that you talk about, especially in the three part episode on deconstructing the myths of science. I guess that's why, when I first heard those episodes, I had a reaction against what you were saying, because I didn't fully understand what was truly being explained until now.
I've always attempted to try to understand why someone believes what they do, because I've always intuited that this understanding can lead to more compassion, less judgment, etc.
Still not sure that I'm right about this, but the more I understand, the more I find this to be true.

    • @ActualizedOrg

Of course. Scientists tend to be extremely conservative. They have to be because they are deathly afraid of any fantasy infecting their science. Go try to convince a scientist that you saw a ghost. He will shit his pants in fear. Not fear of the ghost, but fear of what it means for his scientific worldview.
Scientists must forever live in fear, because at any point some new phenomenon maybe be discovered which will wreck their whole worldview.

For example in my relationship I am conservative because I want to keep things comfortable and dont like it very much when my partner and I change routines or introduce new people to our social circle. I could not be more thankful for this channel. A lot of Leo's followers tend to misunderstand and misuse these teachings (which is why I 100% support his decision to not have a dedicated discord server). I visit the blogs often but avoid the forums because in general I am trying to avoid the online space for social interaction. People often fall into bubbles and spring dumb ideas and opinions off each other. I myself am a bad example because I spend the majority of my free-time listening to leftist podcasts and it is not even because I am obsessed with the politics but because I feel connected to the personalities themselves and they have served as more of a 'comfort food' to self medicate my anger towards people I view as bigoted as well as of course my distain for late stage capitalism. I have wanted to gain a more nuanced perspective because of how heinous the right has become and it seems like more and more reactionary trolls have been taking over the entire internet. I tried creating a new youtube and purposely plunging myself into a right wing rabbit hole by listening to Tim Pool and Jordan Peterson but it ends up just making me more angry, so I have been avoiding it and focusing on building up my emotional intelligence before doing so. I really have a passion for gaining understanding for people as much as possible, and so this is the only channel I know of that explores this at a profound level and the lecture/speech template for his videos are perfect for ADHD peeps like me who can't stand the snappy editing and music in all of these 'self help' youtube channels etc. I do find a lot of Leo's videos about awakening and the more metaphysical stuff to be a bit over the top but the more practical stuff he creates are some of the best i've seen. I don't put this guy on a pedestal as some kind of 'god' of consciousness and wisdom, because in all honesty I find that pretty foolish, but we are all fools in the end, and that's the best lesson on life anyone can give.

@@shinzenyoung9888 I checked it out out of curiosity and it was disappointing. The biggest problem I really have with Leo's community is the psychonauts who spend the majority of their time tripping balls and not actually doing any practical work. They tend to take an incredibly arrogant stance on how 'enlightened' they are. Nobody is really more guilty than Leo in this aspect, and I really don't think it's good PR nor is it ethical according to his mission to tout yourself as 'God' and claim to be more enlightened than anyone else. It defies the very thing he so correctly points out about the ego and the mind. It plays tricks!! And to try and explain the unexplainable is by very definition impossible. I 100% understand the passion and urge to share it with the world but how far is 'too far'? For me, the fear of insanity is too strong and I know that I am not mentally ready for such a profound experience. Hell . Weed gives me full on terror trips and has nearly put me into psychosis many times, so upgrading to shrooms or LSD for me would be like a mental suicide.
I really hope I am able to have a strong enough mind to bare it one day. For now my passion is working on my life and growing my understanding for others, and I remind myself constantly that Leo is a human who does dumb human things and says crazy human shit but also teaches powerful human lessons.

@@objectiveperspective777 I See it like that too. I think Leo is actually a genius for producing that high quality content but that doesn't mean we should see him as a kind of enlightened superior being. He has his defects like everyone else has. And oh man 3 to 4 years ago I was so deep into that rabbit whole. Spending hours on the forum reading different threads and it didn't improve my life a bit. Maybe even made it worse in some aspects. I think Leo is aware of the way a lot of people are misusing the platform but maybe he does think it still provides some value. And Psychedelics are very powerful but you have to be very cautious too. They can even be misleading if you haven't matured enough psychologically. So I think classic Personal Development stuff would be sufficient for a lot of people at their stage of development.

I relate to your story of purposefully exposing yourself to right wing thinkers while being more generally aligned with the left. I did the same a few years ago, at first it was weird to me and annoying when I watched people like Jordan Peterson etc, but I realised it was often because they were saying something that deep down I knew to be true but couldn't accept because if I was to accept those things then I would die in a sense, my identity would die. And die it did. I went from a total hippie leftist to now what I consider a grounded middle where I'm just generally seeking to understand reality and to do so, this requires understanding all ways of thinking and perspectives. Which doesn't mean taking on all those different perspectives but being able to actually really listen to someone and really try to understand even when you don't agree with them. I have found that the intense emotional feeling that usually accompanies hearing something you really disagree with or feel that you "hate" has significantly reduced and I'm now a lot calmer and less hateful towards anything, including bigots, extremists, or perceived "evils". Because I understand that hateful energy is only serving to add fuel to the fire and not actually helping anything. Anger and hate are blind. I now purposefully make myself watch, read or listen to things that give me that feeling of "ugh this will really annoy me" because when that feeling comes I know my biases are growing too strong against something, in which case I need to challenge myself to push through the trigger. It's generally always rewarding because I learn so much and it helps me think.

The balance between the conservative and liberal mind fascinate me. I think the situation dictates whether you should use more liberal/conservative approach. There's only one mix of those two which will create the most positive outcome for the society. For example in situation A you should use 20% conservative, 80% liberal. In situation B you should use 65% conservative and 35% liberal approach. Another thing is that in which time scale do we measure certain outcome to be positive? For example - we used 20%C and 80%L approach in the first scenario. The positive outcome could be visible for 2 years after that decision was made. But then it was negative for the next 3 years. So was the initial decision good?

My interpretation of it is like this. There is a fence across the road. An openminded person would say: we don't know what it does, so let's remove it, it's in the way. A conservative person would say: no, no, we can only remove it, if we understand the reason the fence is there. Someone must have put it there for a reason, and just because we are not aware of this reason, does not make it invalid. We have to make an informed decision, not a blind guess.

Leo, if you're into personality models, there's one I think is even more comprehensive than 5-factor. The model I prefer is called the HEXACO personality model, and it has everything from 5-fac as well as a sixth factor called Honesty-Humility (the H Factor). H is useful for analyzing people relative to the dark triad and can be thought of as a measure of reverse-manipulativeness (how averse someone is to being deceitful, greedy, and machiavellian.) In terms of politics, H correlates negatively with social dominance orientation, in the same way that openness correlates neg with right-wing authoritarianism. I really like the HEXACO model because it offers many subtleties and nuances not found in 5-fac, such as the distinction between being confrontational for selfish reasons and being confrontational for the sake of protecting others. If you plan on doing a video on personality, I think you would be better served to do it on HEXACO over 5-fac. I don't hate 5-fac or anything. I do appreciate it. It's just that HEXACO contains all the insights of 5-fac, plus more.

I read a research paper, that concluded OCEAN+Honesty-Humility covers the same ground as HEXACO. The only difference is that the other 5 factors besides H, are factored slightly differently, they mean slightly different things. But the five factors besides H cover about the same ground in each factorization.

    • @kennethroe4321
      @kennethroe4321 Год назад

@@Krasbin I agree completely. However I prefer a model that covers the entire ground without having to borrow from others. HEXACO is complete by itself while 5 fac requires stealing H in order to be complete. 5 fac + H is perfectly valid as a model, but HEXACO is already set up with its own test metrics and lots of papers and research. I also consider emotionality to be a more useful direction of measurement than neuroticism, which is only useful if you're looking at mental health.

    • @Krasbin

@@kennethroe4321 Emotionality is also better than Neuroticism for the acceptance of being high in that scale. Hi there, ever since I started on this consciousness path, I was able to tap so much into my consciousness and discover that I am Awareness and it all felt so good, but now my mind seems to be clamping down really hard, and it's like there's an entity in my head that's constantly over-reactive and causing all sorts of clenching or tightness in my body, it makes me unable to burp or fart or poop easily, it's amplifying the pain I feel from all sorts of things and feelings, and it's affecting my life really much. When I try to talk to this entity, I always get the same answers, it wants me to suffer, and the reason it is here is because of all the consciousness work that I did, and that it is killing it, so it wants me to stop, but I have already stopped for so long, almost weeks, but this entity is still here, and it's just making life harder and harder by the day, I'm like having constipation and bloating just from the fact that mind is so tight that it won't let me release, and my entire life is now centered around finding ways to burp and fart and poop. No matter how hard I try to make peace or be friends with it, it just stays silent, and gives me no answer, and whenever I even think about anything that's slightly triggering to it, like abiding in God consciousness, or meditating, or simply being jolted by sudden movements, and noises, it just goes absolutely nuts, and clenches up completely, making the top of my head feel like there's a clamp on it. I really need help on this, have you or anyone here encountered such a phenomenon before? And what would you guys recommend I do to put an end to this? Is there a way to come to peaceful terms with it? A way for it to just let go if I would stop the meditations? Do I just give it time to calm down? It seems worse and worse each day. Do I keep on practicing meditation regardless of how painful it is and maybe it will be gone forever? But it just feels worse and worse the more I do it, and it always comes back, and it feels wrong to be forcing things like this. I feel like my life is really going to end if I don't find any solutions, anyone who has any idea what's going on and what I should be doing, I would be so grateful to hear from you!
