I feel like sure, if one tries REALLY HARD they can get that message from the film. Like the woman in the film who says that ppl are basically good....and then watches that belief be torn to shreds by humans around her.
Another message is definitely how readily religious fervor easily lends itself to becoming an abusive cult that throws people against each other if it can make one side feel emotionally righteous. And how easily humans are emotionally manipulated by religious leaders who sound authoritative.
Or how the government does shit without regular people knowing and we can do absolutely zero to stop it.
Or how important it is to try and gather all the facts before making major choices.
I mean, there will always be hope...but there doesn't necessarily always need to be. Existing in a world where literal monsters have killed many ppl in front of you and social order devolves....living after that experience isn't super desirable for everyone. The ptsd would be intense and perhaps intolerable for many.

@@ayooshhayoosh Yeah, I guess it's a dilemma of staying or going out. I mean I get his logic of staying in order to hold out for a chance to see his loved ones (in this case his wife); or resort to her choice to go outside, risk her life and stay close to her presumably dead children since it already looks like everyone is dead outside. It's a risk. Either way, they're going to die. Personally, I wouldn't be able to live through the nerve wreck of wondering about what happened to my kids in that situation. When you lose a loved one, it feels like you're already dead just the same. Sadly in end, the odds were against him. It's what I love about this movie. Both choices are valid but never easy.

I just hate how they all agreed to kill themselves if/when it starts to look completely hopeless. I feel like they should have gone out fighting, or at least tried to anyway. I wish they would have gotten out of the vehicle and just WALKED, trying to survive and stay alive as long as they possibly could. Even if it looks like the whole world has ended around them, and there's no hope left.. I say go out and chance it anyway, and MAKE those fucking things kill you or eat you if it comes down to it. Indeed they did. Jim Jones and David Koresh were just modern small time examples. Want the worst examples? In Medieval Europe going to church was doing the Nazi salute. Cause any jackoff toting a crucifix had it in for religious freedom and non-christian religions, especially the Jews, professional doctors, nobility and anyone who upstaged them or didn't join their jackboot country club. They'd finger people as witches, drag them from their homes and put them through gruesome torture till "confession" then roast them at the stake. Just ask poor Dracula's human wife from the Castlevania anime.
Makes it all the more frightening since European fascism in the 20th century wasn't the first time Europe was gripped with mass tyranny.
He'll, some of the USA's early colonists were glorified radical Bible-humping cults leftover from said torture-happy fascists, starting with the Puritans aka Pilgrims who were such fanatical haters of all things non-Christian, and needless to say complete buzzkills, they were un-thankful for the Thanksgiving party the Native Americans threw for them. That's partly why Uncle Sam is more racist than the Nazis and committed an on-going genocide that makes Hitler look like Macbeth. To say nothing of those televangelists who get caught in pervert scandals.
I personally never felt good about church from the get-go in life. I only felt the Orwellian vibes I get from an ugly celeb's mug on the big screen demanding 24/7 worship.
Carmody, Carrie White's mother and all the above are why I'll never go to church AGAIN!

The ending... Just... The ending... Wow... I can't imagine the amount of pain David felt after he mercy killed his friends and own son, just to then be rescued. It's the only time you don't want to make it out of something alive. Your death being the good ending, being rescued being the bad. His mercy kills were in complete vain. If they just waited in that car, rescue would still come, and David would still have *some* happiness, as he'd still have his son. But David wanted to give him and his new friends a less brutal and painless death. But again, it was all in vain. That's what I love about this ending. It's unique. It's different. It proves how not all stories have to end happily. Sometimes, the bad endings are what makes the conclusions so great.
(Also, to the ones complaining that I "spoiled the ending", this is on you for continuing reading this, despite me literally mentioning the ending as the second word. I didn't spoil you. You spoiled yourselves.)

Between the choice of sparing a loved one a horrific death in favor of a fast one, I might have done the same thing. As might have you. So, I guess what I'm suggesting here is, this is only chapter one of this story, it could go a lot of ways from here.

Author Stephen King is the most absolute genius at writing horror movies. "The Mist" is one of the best books he ever wrote and this movie proves it! The ending centers around what we've all been told over and over, the word of God, "Thou shalt not kill". This movie is one of the best I've seen in my lifetime! Many lessons taught here; "Judge not that ye be judged" is another. Thank you, Mr. King for

I love that they used a lot of the same actors here as in Stephen King’s Storm of the Century. It really gives it that depth of small town familiarity all King’s Maine stories have. Along with the same types of characters - and that they cast some of them in The Walking Dead only makes it even better.
Btw: Storm of the Century AND Rose Red are free on RUclips, too. Storm of the Century makes a perfect companion to this one. If you’re in the mood for more like this, that’s about as close as you can get to this. It’s not just another King, it’s the way it’s filmed, too - the atmosphere, characters and story elements are all there.
