Higher weights was the huge guys he struggled to take down because they were naturally so big and strong. As a result he over relied on his overhand right and became predictable, at a lower weight his grappling would've been so much more effective imo.

Nah, his skill set was average at best. Phenomenal chin and power but his striking was limited to telegraphed swings. I'd love to have seen him cut to 185 and really put the time in.
@@H.K.5 His speed wasn't the issue, he had decent speed. His arsenal was pretty much restricted to overhand rights. Very rarely would he throw jabs, efficient kicks, body shots, knees or elbows.

Even though everyone knew his high kicks were his killer shot, they often never saw it coming because he'd mix up between straight punches, body and leg kicks. Big Country basically has his big right or left

Nelson better striker… Brock better wrestler…. Nelson better ju-jitsu…. Brock good at bullrushing. Both have hard heads and can take punishment. Nelson has better cardio. Given these factors, I would say Nelson has the advantage
Big Country was a great KO artist against average heavyweights, but anytime he fought a technical striker, he lost. Dos Santos, Werdum, Miocic, and Overeem all proved it.
He lost against Hunt too, I believe. Hunt isn't all that technical and fought more like Nelson. Both are big power hitters, but have nothing else to offer. Wait -- Nelson is a master on the ground. He probably should've tried to take Overeem to the mat in this match.
Roy nelson is so underrated and is one of the all time greats he was 38 here and stood the whole time with a kickboxing champion ! And even knocked him down ! I think if this was 5 rounds he maybe even gets the finish !
When you train you build your accuracy your stamina your power... So the good practitioner might think I can get this guy down...No you can't if Overeem didn't you can't...So in a street fight.. Does not matter how experienced and skilled you are you don't know if the other guy is a real caveman! Nelson is a total caveman with crazy abilities!
if overeem had a good chin he could’ve had the potential to be the greatest heavyweight of all time. Dude is an absolute monster with terrifying power and deadly accuracy. Only thing tho if he gets hit clean he goes to sleep. You could even say he has one of the worst chins of all time

A " household name " in Europe. His kicks and punching combos in this fight give you a hint of what he was like aged 20 to 30. Don't particularly like the roid muncher myself but along with Mark Hunt and Wanderlie Silva the best known internationally, pre UFC.
