Yes. He can throw down a Speech in both Jungle Fever and even The L Word. You know what's also so sad. Both Dr. King and Malcolm X were not only assassinated but had their Homes Bombed.
"Our own Black shining prince who didn't hesitate to die, because he loved us so"....this is the most amazing ending to a biographical movie that I can recall....I am Malcolm X!
Robert Rucker bro I cried real tears to this. This put his whole life and cause in perspective. “Malcolm was our manhood, our living black manhood” 😢🙏🏽💪🏾😇
He knew he was going to die. I discovered that Ossie Davis worked with Robert Reed on the Legal Drama The Defenders in the 1950's. Then Robert plays Dr. William Reynolds in Roots focusing on Alex Haley's Maternal Side, while Ossie played Parson Dick in Queen Alex Haley's Paternal Side. Then Alex Haley is Malcolm X's Ghostwriter for his Life Story.
RIP to the greatest leader of all time along with Garvey Dr.King. Malcolm X courage was undeniable. He spoke up and spoke out. He wasn't afraid to put his life on the line for his beliefs as a black man in America. He told us the unequivocal truth. Gave it to us straight. His knowledge was incredible. He understood the system and wanted so badly to educate his fellow brothers and sisters, but unfortunately we still haven't taken heed to what Malcolm X told us 50 yrs ago
"Malcolm was our manhood, our black man hood" every time I hear those words I begin to get a little teary eyed, because this man meant so much to my people, and what this man stood for my people especially for the black men in America can never be forgotten. He taught a generation of brothers on how to become a man again, a strong man, a disciplined man, and a man who is willing to die for his people to reach true freedom. he was before my time, but I thank the most high divine one for this man. Thank you brother Malcolm and Rest in Paradise.
Cody Brooks He was completely with spine. And I love Ossie for this eulogy. Understand that almost all leaders and public figures detached themselves from Malcolm.
Bill Rawthee that is very true, Ossie did say it with complete spine and courage, you can hear it in his voice, that he appreciated Malcolm X not just as iconic public figure, but as a Father Figure as well. Malcom did receive a lot of back lash from many so called leaders of the African Community, because he was not trying to hustle his people, he wanted re educate his people into more self respect for them selves. He wanted our people to become aware that we can get ourselves out of the financial, mental, spiritual, and physical hell that my ancestors before me, received from the European Society of yester year, on a daily basis. I still believe that we can get out ourselves out of those forms of hell that I described to you up top, I will never give up hope, but we need to start building our leaders know, instead of praying for them. Leaders are not born, they are made. One prime example can be the little brotha KingNahh on youtube. He is very wise for his age, and represents how true children of African descent should act and become, not kids who play with toys, video games, eat chips and cookies, but children who at just the age of 9 or 10, who want to see and create change for the African race, globally.
+Cody Brooks It is very touching because Ossie is mentioning how there are people even among blacks who tell us not to honor him and he explains why he should be honored, and even then, let his passing bring us together, not divide us.
Beautifully delivered eulogy. Ossie Davis does a wonderful job with the very last part: "He didn't hesitate to die, because he loved us so." Exactly right.
I am a 42-year-old Chicano born into poverty w/o a father present and Malcolm Xs story, voice of wisdom, and servant leadership unto sacrifice helped prepare me for the world as a young man. He is still one of my heroes- I stand on his shoulders every day of my life and am thankful.
From Malcolm X's last speech: "I have to straighten out my own position, which is clear. I am not a racist in any form whatsoever. I don't believe in any form of racism. I don't believe in any form of discrimination or segregation....But when you just judge a man because of the color of his skin, then you're committing a crime, because that's the worst kind of judgment..."
This is an amazing speech because it pays tribute to a great leader. As anyone who has studied the messaging of Malcolm X knows, he broke away from the perspective of the National of Islam, which many identify as a cult, and dug deeper into the teachings of the religion of Islam. This change of perspective is why he was killed. Rather than descending into the "bottomless pit" of finger-pointing over racial issues, when studying Malcolm X, it would pay much better homage to him to see the entire picture, from beginning to end. Because that full-view is what is necessary to fully understand the evolution of his message and the power of his leadership.
As a white man from Northern Ireland, I must thank Spike Lee for bringing Malcolm's story to life. Malcolm X is a beautiful human being who is a prince for all humanity, and all oppressed people everywhere. Knowing him through film and books has really kept me going through all the things I have faced in life.
I had the great fortune to meet Ossie Davis when he spoke at my college graduation at Kean University in May 2000. God bless Ossie Davis. God bless Malcom X. God bless Betty Shabazz🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I wasn't born when Malcolm was alive but I was glad to read his autobiography and watch the movie. I have downloaded all his speeches and listen to him. Also I have to give a shout out to Denzel Washington bringing him to life to honor him and remind us of the man Malcolm was. Thank You Malcolm for giving me pride for myself. Also in my opinion you're not a prince you're a king a shining king. RIP Malcolm and May Allah Serve You Well!
This must be the best eulogy ever. From the heart. After hearing this for the first time I had so much respect of Ossie Davis. Miss him too now. This describes Malcolm X's life - Our living, black manhood. :( A black Muslim Prince.
I can never watch this fully. It always happens that the tears flood my eyes and blur my vision, only for it to intensify as I keep listening to these words. Miss you a lot, our black, shinning Prince! May you rest in the heaven your heart believed in.
Excellent Eulogy...and the movie by Spike Lee is a must see film/documentary...Denzel Washington was nominated for Best Actor but lost out to Al Pacino. The movie is powerful and many high school students in Florida have watched it during classes.....and thought it was great. Your library has copies of DVD and, if not, Ebay has it for sale.
Love this monumental eulogy from the great Ossie Davis and of course, this was the same eulogy used in the last scene of Spike Lee's "Malcolm X". May the soul of Malcolm X truly rest in peace, for he was/is exactly what our people needed... not to mention, when Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" echoed throughout the scene of his forecomin demise, one could only think after all his work on this earth, he was finally ready to go home and meet the Maker.
Malcolm X Will always be Remembered and We will Celebrate Your Life and Legacy As a Life that was Cut Short to Soon from Assassins Bullets and what could been filled with Greater Accomplishments.
I didn't find out until recently that Ossie Davis actually did say this at his funeral, hos own words, thought they were just part of the movie. I just finished Alex Haleys book which clarified that to me. Got to give Spike Lee credit, he stayed pretty faithful to the book in the movie.
+wingright2nd This eulogy is actually cut down for time. Ossie did say more, but Spike didn't use all of it. I guess he felt some of it wasn't necessary.
I would agree that the complexion and even the acting ability of a young Laurence Fishburne would have been a great fit, but you can’t deny the stellar job that Denzel Washington did in Malcolm X.
I watch this movie once a month just so i can relive the great story of Malcolm X.... This always almost brings me to tears because it is so true. He is our black shining prince.
RIP Malcom. You were and still are a force of nature. One day when African men rise again to their full height, they will be standing standing on the shoulders of giants like you.
I love brother Farrakhan, but how dare he utter the name Malcolm out of his mouth...NOI, FOI, can forget about it. The truth is out. Pick up and move on. But don't dare try to slam "OUR PRINCE" in any way.
Every time I see and hear this I tear up!! We lost such an iconic individual in Brother Malcolm X!! We dearly need someone like him to come about right now!!
Malcolm was a brave man , always says the truth , his core idea was people should have equal rights to all things regardless the colour of their skin... is that a crime .. nooo ..... that is good deed.. indeed....
veeseee128 I did, it was something else. He knew he wouldn't live long enough to Read his Book. He even Told Dr. King in a TV Movie from the 1970's that he and Martin were both Dead Men. After Malcolm X died, Dr. King knew he was next.
I just finished reading the Autobiography of Malcom X and I NEEDED to hear Ossie Davis Eulogy. What a powerful eulogy for a powerful man. Long live brother Malcolm ✊🏾✊🏾
Most powerful eulogy ever. Ossie davis is a legend

"Malcolm was our manhood. Our living, black manhood." Absolute chills...
Spike Lee is a genius! The way he directed and put this movie together...a MASTERPIECE!
This was the real eulogy Ossie Davis gave at his funeral.

I was given the name Malcolm X as my name and I'm proud of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautifully delivered eulogy. Ossie Davis does a wonderful job with the very last part: "He didn't hesitate to die, because he loved us so." Exactly right.
Well said beautifully and eloquently by the Late Ossie Davis....
Ossie Davis voice is so cold.

I tear up when I watch this, I love you brother Malcolm!!!
Happy Birthday Malcolm X

Malcolm X...resting in peace AND power. They (whoever they really were) may have killed the man, but they were unable to kill his ideas.
Always found this powerful- the background music fits into it well.
