This song was a hit in 1984-1985 when he released his first solo album after a huge success with his band ''Journey''. ''Oh Sherrie'' was the first single of the album, this song was the last single of this album. This was a decent hit, reaching n.18 in february 1985.
Absolutely love this track. So smooth and full of emotion. It doesn't really get much better than Steve Perry vocals. A real gem this track. 😍

Steve Perry was born and raised in the same small town my father was born in, but my father is ten years older so they never met as kids. Journey played a big outdoor concert in my city around the time this album was released. I didn't have tickets, so I went with a buddy to listen to it from outside the venue, which was the local community college football stadium. I couldn't see the stage, but they sounded great! 😄

- ...jeeezus, do I LOVE this Song! ...this tune was Steve's 4th(!!) single from his 1st Solo Album "Street Talk"; the 1st single ("Oh Sherrie") was an out-of-the-box SMASH, hitting #3 Pop, Spring 1984.....
- ...then, the next singles ("Strung Out" & "She's Mine") did moderately well, because they didn't 'feel' like Steve......then, his label released this tune late 1984, out of a contractual agreement, and became his 2nd biggest single EVER, peaking at #18 Pop / #2 AC, Feb., 1985.....
- ....but......Steve also got something with this tune he never had, before....a *BLACK* Audience! ...he got some R&B Radio play with this Soft Rocker, and it became SUCH an 'underground' Soul hit, that Sharon Bryant (formerly of Atlantic Starr) covered it in 1989, and it became a Top Ten R&B hit for her (#7 R&B, Nov., 1989).....
...It's now become a "Yacht Rock" CLASSIC...like, a really BIG One......(5:13) ......
