Oh my gosh, you are super intelligent - you are a great teacher, very clear and easy to follow, the most soothing to understand anywhere. I am unworthy ! - Canada.
Love it! A completely freehand version of how I usually run my own sets today: playing loops and sounds along with the preprogrammed parts, having muted those bits to avoid phasing. Excellent tutorial! =]
The more I watch it I think I would liken it to beat juggling instead of turntablism as a whole. Still impressed every time I see it. Wish I knew more about current technology.
cool stuff. I am interested in getting a setup like yours after jamming the octagon at LIB. I've never really been into turntables, but this looks like something I could get into. You need to market that thing!
i left my opinion in the other vid. but in this one i want to ask how did you change the original faders and knobs. actually is the only thing i would like to do when i ll buy mine :D a vid or an explanation would be nice thx
anyone who is looking for the download links on controllerism website listed in the video: it is not hyperlinked anywhere on the main page. you have to follow the blog feed back through time until you can find it. There is a link included in an entry dated March 13th, 2011
man. it's been years since I've seen this video. which inspired me for years. I've started with real instruments and as soon as fellow musicians discovered I make electronic music they bashed the crap out of me. truly, I ended up with electronic and software due to finding dealing with other musicians a hassle... blah blah. it just wasn't what I expected as a kid lol. at the end. it's still music.
does anyone know what touch controlls this guy is embeding in his controller? I mean the long one that resembles a ruler (that he uses for pitch shifting) and the one on the left side of the keyboard.
Had this tab open for ages... and because I'm eagerly awaiting your first album - which I can't wait to see such an element of your perfectionism, my patience overcomes my need to express the fact that it's been ages.. did I just use that word again? # I've edited and removed what I was going to say there as I think it expressed more about my state of mind than my childishh need to play on this musical tool you are creating # anyway, I've had a good weekend sharing a few nice moments with friends. I hope you do the same. Really enjoyed your last kickstarter message, not saying there couldn't have been more, or more frequent.. but we're there, still. Enjoy the moment.
Awesome Video, I'd give it two thumbs up if I could. After about 8 hours I got everything to work. Having more than 2 beat jump would have been great. Spectacular layout none the less. Mad props and keep up the great work. Cheers. :o)
@rockbandmidi my issue is with the comparision to turntablism. turntablism is with a turntable, its essentially analoge. this stuff is too vague, sure hes pressing keys and turning knobs, but with a click of a mouse those same switches do something different, its got way more in common with music production than turntablism. with such a broad playing field is it possible to make skill level comparisons? i mean what would the rules of a controllerism dmc be?!
@djtavi77 Well MAX for Live has some pretty amazing potential, and its online community (including Moldover) has created plugins that have that functionality, so you can easily import them into Ableton. I'm assuming that's the software you use?
It presents possibility and creativity. why are you hating on this guy, he figured something out that I would not of even dreamed of. more power to him. did you see the before and after. he did way more than just rubber knobs and a cap. and he custimized the software to meet his style, all I know is he has 40,000 thousand hits and if that song on your profile only has 73... don't hate
@dalviel ok? it would be awesome if you guys make a vid showing how to do this... I'm selling my novation slMKII cause I'm not good mapping,,,, but i would love to keep it if I learn and DJ with it.... please I would appreciate some help on this... same to map a know to scroll crates or folders and files to pick songs to load on decks... Thanks.
The free bird button......Hilarious lol. THanks for this vid. Im becoming a controllerist and this really helped to understand the culture a lot better
it would be awesome if you guys make a vid showing how to do this... very nice video. i´m impressed. btw i have the novation zero sl controller, but i wont modify it^^ i´ll test your templates and hopely enjoy:) now i try to get beatlookup running with live. cheers
Set the quantization of the clip or loop to NONE, and choose in what way you would like to launch it (trigger, gate, toggle, repeat). its in the Launch Box on the clip view.
I think all the hating comes from envy. Moldover, you should get a job with korg, yamaha, ableton (or some other company) to develop a h/w software setup for this type of stuff and other things (allows good muscle memory development). Look at how streamline his setup is, using a single CC to control multiple things is really neat, possibly even unique. For all you who doubt this guys skill: look how fluid his hands are and how he knows exactly where everything is. This is really great stuff.
Just set that sample to respond to the midi note number that the key/pad/etc sends when you hit it. If middle C = 60, set the sample to respond to that note # from that controller. In reality its usually a lot easier than that: right click the sample or knob, etc, and click 'midi learn', then manipulate the control you want to assign to it. Presto.
I see you never answer any comments, but please do this time!? I also have the novation controller. But i dislike the knobfeeling. Which knobs did you get? and where?
it remember me that in the mid 1996 a japanese guy's use sensor on he's cloth to controle an mpc sampler like with a computer ^^ it's truly a controllerism. Depend if you consider doing music is playing using acoustic and electro acoustic stuff or just controling sample's loop, but it's more a DJ's approach of making music for me than playing music.
Not sure why people dislike this... Dont complain, prove yourself a better musician. @ Moldover: I did not realize that you made a circuitboard album. Props on more than this video man. Also, the MOJO looks sexy. Love the arcade style buttons! .... on the video... OCTAMASHER and beatlookup. ahhh... I dont even know where to begin... holy shit dude. (sexy)^2
This is fuckin' nice! Big ups. Hey where did you get those caps for the sliders? i have been wanting to do that on my sl, but don't know where to find them.
@rockbandmidi : thinking like that is so old fashioned.... The use of these new digital devices or tools can bring up a whole range of new possibilities, besides using real instruments. Having real good control over devices like this can be an art by itself... and can demand just as much or even more of your creativity as using a guitar or piano.
You don't have to change screen resolution to make Ableton interface bigger. Just go to Options and there is a dedicated parameter to zoom the whole thing. Cheers!
what's up Moldover? I'm going to buy your cnew cd next paycheck!!! thx for this vid =) Can you or anyone tell me where to get the beat lookup plugin. I cant find it anywhere. thx
maybe this is like when scratching started and it was wack, but then got insanely ill. But sadly a computer and custom controllers seem to takes away major constraints so it won't be iLL unless you take it up like 100 knotches and make it musical. ie dj qbert figured out you need music too.
There's no end to the possibilities. There are cats who have manage to get this way outside of the box of the laptop even. I'm talking about linking MIDI controllers to video clips, light, motors, solenoids, etc... If and when the Reactables' technology ever escapes that university in Barcelona, very cool things will start to pop up in electronic music. I started assembling my "Controllerism" rig last March. Watch my video of it in action.
@flux302 lol! Somehow I dont think "up/down/up/down/up/down" on a single parameter would be a very interesting performance :P I really don't know yet.. I think a new way of thinking will be required.. rather than just an x-dimensional surface One area that interests me is touch-screens with touch-feedback - eg, Maybe soft-screens with solid contour beneath the screen that rises/falls based on value? Or projection onto changing surfaces.. touch-screen is still in-the-box IMO though
ummm no not really kraftwerk havent they play live using synths very little of it is pre sequenced or other peoples material its completely different as the other poster said this is more like djing
@rockbandmidi i dont think you get what im saying. again, my issue is what the comparision to turntablism. this has little to nothing in common with turntablism. but whatever i wish you and your blossoming scene all the best.
now if only I had seen this video in 2007, you were so ahead of the times....
Hats off to you Matt. In my book, you have gone down in history.
still one of the best 'gear' videos ever!
Oh my gosh, you are super intelligent - you are a great teacher, very clear and easy to follow, the most soothing to understand anywhere. I am unworthy ! - Canada.
i play electronic music live, but thanks to you, maybe im witnsessing the birth of a new culture!!!!
keepon the excellent work you are doing!!!
I think this is the BEST TUTORIAL I've ever seen on youtube!! The color-match is so simply that is brilliant!
Thanks a lot for this!
Bravo Maestro
that's it... i'm going home. how can i be expected to work another 6 hours after watching something like this.
Moldover you are the MAN!
Love it! A completely freehand version of how I usually run my own sets today: playing loops and sounds along with the preprogrammed parts, having muted those bits to avoid phasing. Excellent tutorial! =]
2mins and it was amazing! Props on the Peanuts theme mixed from Beethoven. Already one of the BEST controllerism videos. Keep up the good work!
wow, I just found this...much respect!! the best magicians SHOW their tricks and share that knowledge with the people
AWESOME. Very inspiring, too; I've been looking for good ideas for sample-based live performance, and this is incredibly helpful.
Rock on, dude. BadASS. This rules. I love the sharing of all the insights and education you've obviously worked so hard on. Totally inspired.
You gave a guest lecture at my school not long ago. Very inspiring, keep up the good work :P
Great setup! Learned a lot for my own project, thanks!
Saaaaweet! Im just startin out, but if i can get half way of where ur @, id b soooo happy! Good Job, chap! Cj
My god... That frankencontroller... It's so beautiful!
You are very intelligent! You have inspired me to get involved with the controllerism movement!
dude amazing setup. Truly inspiring
The more I watch it I think I would liken it to beat juggling instead of turntablism as a whole. Still impressed every time I see it. Wish I knew more about current technology.
Amazing man. Really changed my perspective on a few things.
live is the universal instrument. you visualize that in an amazing way!
cool stuff. I am interested in getting a setup like yours after jamming the octagon at LIB. I've never really been into turntables, but this looks like something I could get into. You need to market that thing!
can is a band that comes from near where i live ! legendary ! and timeless ! .....big up CAN ....love your controler ! one love out of germany
Saw ur video from kvraudio forum...nice stuff bro😊thank you🙏
Should I buy the Axiom Pro or the Novation SL MKII? I just want to compose great music
You are a god among men, and that ending was hilarious
i left my opinion in the other vid.
but in this one i want to ask how did you change the original faders and knobs. actually is the only thing i would like to do when i ll buy mine :D
a vid or an explanation would be nice
thx
You and Beardyman need to team brother. Beautifully orchestrated.

VERY NICE CONTROLLERIM!!! KEEP THE GREAT JOB!!!
That free bird button is AWESOME. For those who dont understand it. It plays the Song
Free Bird - Lynyrd Skynyrd which is a great song

How do you midi map your controller to play different clips in Ableton?
i cant seem to work on that volume gate. how do you do it? tnx...
That CAN mashup is so sick!!!!
whoa that is amazing. my favorite part was the hip hop over peanuts theme brilliant creation man
the beatlookup.ens file can't use for ableton live?
It presents possibility and creativity. why are you hating on this guy, he figured something out that I would not of even dreamed of. more power to him. did you see the before and after. he did way more than just rubber knobs and a cap. and he custimized the software to meet his style, all I know is he has 40,000 thousand hits and if that song on your profile only has 73... don't hate
What does the "potential-mess-up"-button do?
@dalviel ok? it would be awesome if you guys make a vid showing how to do this... very nice video. i´m impressed. btw i have the novation zero sl controller, but i wont modify it^^ i´ll test your templates and hopely enjoy:) now i try to get beatlookup running with live. cheers
FELL OUT OF MY CHAIR laughing with the freebird thing. AWESOME. :) :) :) :)

Freebird button is freakin brilliant You Rule !!!!! So impressed dude!!!!!!
does anyone know what program he is using?
I know nothing about controllers and stuff but this was really good!
fuckin awesome...
what exactly do you have those pads programmed to do in ableton?
Just set that sample to respond to the midi note number that the key/pad/etc sends when you hit it. If middle C = 60, set the sample to respond to that note # from that controller. In reality its usually a lot easier than that: right click the sample or knob, etc, and click 'midi learn', then manipulate the control you want to assign to it. Presto.

I also have the novation controller. But i dislike the knobfeeling. Which knobs did you get? and where?
Very Smart Good Stuff Thanks For the INF. Good stuff
@Mixikyr its the beginning of 'Jam on it' by newcleus
it remember me that in the mid 1996 a japanese guy's use sensor on he's cloth to controle an mpc sampler like with a computer ^^ it's truly a controllerism. can anyone tell me the name of the effect used at 1:08
wow. great stuff !! - like it!!
Yall stop hatin this guy is sick at what he does!
Not sure why people dislike this... Dont complain, prove yourself a better musician. @ Moldover: I did not realize that you made a circuitboard album. Props on more than this video man. Man dude, I have been thinking of switching over. I am not finding the beats I want to make just on vinyl samples alone if you know what I mean.
This is fuckin' nice! Big ups. Hey where did you get those caps for the sliders? i have been wanting to do that on my sl, but don't know where to find them.
The Godfather of Controllerism..... he still relevant what he did in 2007!!! get is the one that hooks me up to do what I love to do with music!!!
I think he was referring to the fact that both "isms" are based around creating music. I don't think he made a comparison between the two, did he?
6:49 what's up with the Reverb button? I missed the joke here
very fucking cool. I assume the Kurzweil requires additional midi implementation with laptop ?
this guy is like the DJ shadow (turntabelism)
of this time (!) excellent! im a fan
@planetery
what you disagree with?

ahhhh did you HAVE TO rip apart a kurzweil to get those keys?!?
what's up Moldover? I'm going to buy your cnew cd next paycheck!!! thx for this vid =) Can you or anyone tell me where to get the beat lookup plugin. I cant find it anywhere. thx
LOL @ the Free Bird button.
But seriously, amazing ideas and execution.
i like the use of the bassline from jam on it by grandmaster flash.

Damn, I discovered your channel today and I'm fucking impressed. You are awesome!
why would you want a native instruments controller when he's using a novation sl mkII with live?
that's AWESOME!!!!!!!
AWESOME !!! original form to make music
moldover FTW !!!
I cant tell if i love or hate this guy

I dig it!
@gomachols You deserve a medal for that comment.
...Lynyrd Skynyrd!!!!
LOL!!!
you're a genius!
