Becca, your quilt came out beautiful! My mom and I are working on our 5th quilt. We’ve made a full size quilt for each of her grandchildren. Two of which are my children. Together we can get it done in four to five days. I loved picking out fabrics to make each quilt unique to each child. Watching you make yours, I found that there are different ways of making quilts...like using that fabric adhesive. I’ve never heard of using that. It seems much easier than pinning all the layers together. We need to try that for our current quilt. Loved watching your video as always and I look forward to seeing your next quilt.
It is beautiful!!! Whatever imperfections you see make it even more beautiful as a handmade object of joy and love. It is so satisfying to make a handmade throw or quilt. Its a form of self care /survival skill. Just think when there wasn't a store in every corner to buy a quilt, or even readily available fabric and thread, a woman's family might suffer greatly or worse if she didn't acquire this skill. We are blessed.
it was a joy to watch you make your first quote and it’s beautiful and it really doesn’t need to be perfect. It’s yours to enjoy. I made my first quote recently drove me a little crazy to do it correctly and it came out. All right should be better.
I have been quilting since a major back injury in 2021 and I love to find/see people making their first quilts. I am so happy for you, you did an amazing job!
I am so proud of you !! Its so beautiful dont worry that its not perfect because you made it and that makes it special. Make a vest like that it would be so pretty or a robe would be awesome.
Way to go! Your first quilt is awesome! I have never soaked my batting. I suggest a rag quilt for your next creation. I like a cotton print for the top layer, then a flannel square for the batting and then a flannel square for the backing. I made one for my dog and she loves it!
Leo’s giant tooth stole my heart 😂 I am so impressed with your quilt! I’m still cutting squares for my first quilt and I swear that alone is nerve racking and I will have the guidance of an experienced quilt maker! I’m just so impressed with you!!
That’s truly wonderful, Becca! I’m sitting here, never having quilted before, haven’t stitched a thing in decades, touched a machine in as long..wanting to make a quilt too!!! Just gorgeous!
Very cute quilt - I love all the plaid and colour! I got into quilting recently. It can feel quite tedious at times, but the satisfaction of finishing a quilt is top notch! I hate cutting so many pieces, so I've started squirreling away vintage cotton napkin sets! Already precut, hah! Plus, you can find some really interesting designs... not that you need more inspiration, BUT.... can't wait to see what else you quilt! :)
Not a bad job for your first. Practice makes perfect. You need to choose a backing fabric, batting and enough to make the binding. Love your pattern ❤ iris. the quilting can be Stitch in the ditch or tie through. You also need to pin baste as you only caught the edges to stop quilt moving as you sew😊
So on our quilting group our next step would be to pin the three layers the top the batting and the backing. Then after that you decide whether you want to do it by hand or by machine and that's the quilting of the top. When you finish that and you're happy with it then you cut the quilt down , you square it, then the last step would be binding. Awesome quilt top.
This is bringing me back to the wonderful memories of my grandma teaching me to make my first quit 😍 Thank you so much for sharing! One tip, in the future you can find free quilt binding calculators online to tell you how many strips of fabric you need for your binding. I don’t love the step of making the binding so I want to make sure I’m only making as much as I absolutely need to.
Well done 👏👏 Great first result 🤩 Just to let you know I’ve never soaked my batting as I like the ‘texture’ the shrinking creates on my quilts 😃 Good luck with your next quilt 👍👍🇬🇧
It is so beautiful Becca!! You’re making me want to try one. I think the hardest part for me would be choosing fabrics, I rarely get over the planning stage. I need to inherit someone else’s project!! 🤣. i just finished a crochet blanket myself. We’ll be cozy this fall. 😄. Again, looks amazing, thanks for sharing the process.
You go girl. I just got my sewing machine, so next rotery cutter and mat and ill be ready to quilt. got tons of cloth from my moms stash. Ill soon be joining you on this adventure
Hi! I love seeing people try quilting for the first time. It makes me feel like I can do it too. :) Please don't iron on your cutting mat!! Even with something underneath it. The heat can warp your cutting board and ruin the accuracy. 😬
Aaahhhhh I love it so much!!! I don't have the patience to sit and do all that but oh my goodness I want one so bad.....I have dreamed of someone making me a quilt like that....but I'm almost 38 and still no such luck lol I joke!! I know I could find someone to buy one off of but I think it would hold so much more sentimental love if it was made for me!! Get what I'm saying?? Not good at explaining either 😂 anyways you did a wonderful job and I absolutely love it!!!
So pretty. The wait was totally worth it 🙌🏻. I know she is no longer with us, but #melaniekham does beautiful quilting and her video’s are easy to follow for future reference.
She was such a beautiful person - I saw that her husband just put out a documentary on her channel and I can’t bring myself to watch it yet. Someday! I love her crochet tutorials. ❤️
@@BeccaDeLaCreations it was a beautiful documentary. When you are ready. All in good time. The one crochet pattern I usually do, was from her video many years ago. She just seems like an amazing person.

Are they 4 or 4.5 inch squares you start with? Lovely!
4” 😊
Sew your binding to the back and flip to the front and sew down.
